Funky Edition 2008 v1 (Take 1)
Jan 5th, 2009 by partyfavorz

First and foremost, I am extremely ecstatic about the elections on Tuesday. Looks like we got ourselves a two-way horse race between Clinton and Obama. Anyone that has been following the political blogs, realize just how passionate both camps are about their prospective candidates. What has concerned me is the vitriol hatred geared towards Hillary. Based on the supposed polling data which gives her an unfavorable “likeability” rating; I suspect most of this is driven by the media. So who exactly did they poll? Frankly, after New Hampshire, we saw just how reliable those polls are. The unjustified criticism Hillary has received, is unprecedented. When you hear someone like the ass-wipe Chris Matthews from MSNBC, publicly state “the only reason Hillary became a Senator and is now running for President is because her husband messed around“. Huh? Well if that’s the case, the only reason George Bush became Governor of Texas and subsequently President of the United States is because his last name is “Bush” and his family has a shitload of money. C’mon, where’s the logic? After that, every Hillary supporter took up arms against this sexist remark and his subsequent statements that followed, attempting to justify his position. Though not as blatantly asinine, CNN hasn’t faired any better in their own commentary. That’s all well and good, because the voters are the only people that count and I believe are smart enough to cut through all the bullshit being shown on the idiot box. Thank God for blogs where we can better serve up opinion and commentary to respond to things we either agree or disagree with; albeit in a more civilized manor. The closest we have right now on TV is C-Span, but that forum does not lend itself to healthy debate.
After Super Tuesday, we’ll have a clearer picture who will be the Democratic nominee. I’ve made no bones about the fact that I am a Hillary supporter. Regardless, if it does turn out that Barak succeeds in his bid for the nomination, then I’ll be right there lending my full support. Ultimately, I would like to see a Clinton/Obama ticket run for President; if not, an Obama/Clinton ticket works just fine for me. Now, after John Edwards gets his ass whipped in his own home state of South Carolina, will you please get the hell out of the race! Governor Richardson, thank you for having the good sense to drop out after New Hampshire. As Democrats and Independents, let’s come together and go into the National Convention united with one common goal; to rid the true axis of evil from Washington.
Speaking of evil (you know I had to lead into it somehow), I’ve got a really wicked mix cooked up for all you funk heads! Side one is pure disco heaven that truly satisfies. Side two, well let’s just say that’s for the die-hard disco fan. Some of the stuff harkens back to the underground disco of yonder, whiles others are just simple mainstream fare that I couldn’t work into side one. It was either make this a single disc, or go ahead and serve up volume two for the loyalist. Either way, it won’t disappoint.
Enjoy!
Disc : 1/2
Track : 1 Title : My Life Again (Avalon Superstar Mix) Artist : Lauren Hildebrandt
Former winner of the ill-fated “Fame” contest on NBC, Hildy is back with another dance number and her first album currently in the works. This song fares considerably better than “Dance With You” from 2006. With a slew of producers on board, there is certainly a mix to please everyone.
Track : 2 Title : Like This Like That (Extended Vocal Mix) Artist : Se-Sa feat. Sharon Phillips
This song is SMOKIN! It could have easily gone on my Tech Edition about to come out, but worked really well here. If the part of the hook sounds familiar, it’s because it was lifted from Dee-Lite’s early 90’s hit “Groove Is In The Heart”. Check out the video.
Track : 3 Title : Work (Freemasons Club Mix) Artist : Kelly Rowland
Another winner from Kelly. Is it me, or does she sing much better than Beyonce? As usual, the Freemasons serve up a delicious mix that builds up and then 3 minutes later, drops down into a more club friendly hip-hop mix before building back up again. Solid! Here’s a taste someone put together from the original video version with the Freemason’s radio edit. HOT! HOT!! HOT!!!
“A fly girl like me needs security ‘Cause ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent You got to have a J.O.B. if you want to be with me Ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent You got to have a J.O.B. if you want to be with me No romance without finance, I said no romance without finance”
Then you add vocals by the ever-fab Katherine Ellis and you’ll know why this is one of the hottest songs in a long while. This is definitely going to be Katherine’s year as she has another sizzling number with the Freemasons to be released by the summer. You go girl! Here’s the original for those who’ve never heard of it.
As the title suggests, there is a sexual element to this song. Lyrics are pretty silly, but the song is catchy as hell. Once you hear it, you’ll be feeling the urge to get a little naughty on the dancefloor. Check out the original electro version.
Track : 7 Title : Breathe You In (Eric Kupper Remix) Artist : Samantha James
2nd release from Samantha’s album. The lead single “Rise” from last year, initially premiered on one of the Hed Kandi comps, drawing tremendous interest from a multitude of producers. Much like that song, “Breathe You In” comes with many a remix. I included the “Soulful Mix” on my deep edition and went for Eric’s mix here. While more subdued than the songs surrounding it, Eric Kupper adds a big fat bass line to keep it just funky enough.
Track : 8 Title : Heat You Up (Melt You Down) (RedSoul Club Mix) Artist : RedSoul feat. Andrea Love
The (digital) debut release on Playmore Music is RedSoul & Andrea Love - Heat You Up (Melt You Down), a cover of the 1983 Shirley Lites classic! Chicago diva Andrea Love is best known as being the voice behind the worldwide smash ‘Praise Cats - Shine On Me’ amongst several other huge club tracks on labels such as Purple and Subliminal. RedSoul is best known for tracks on Generate & LAY, together with remixing the likes of Kelis & Jazztronik. (taken from Traxsource.com)
Track : 9 Title : Bring It Back (Original Mix) Artist : Soul Survivors feat. Angie Brown
Originally released on Hed Kandi back in October of last year, I’m in wonderment as to how I missed this one. I need to start paying more attention to that series. Fortunately, it showed up in my December promos. Blazing song featuring the very talented Angie Brown most notable for her early nineties remake of “I’m Gonna Get You” with Bizarre Inc.
Track : 10 Title : Just For You (Soul Survivors Remix) Artist : Michelle McManus
Winner of the 2003 “Pop Idol” contest (the original version of “American Idol”) in the U.K., Michelle signed a deal with Sony/BMG. The first album spun a number one single but failed to muster passed that. Frustrated with the direction her label was pushing her, she and Sony agreed to part ways. Taking control of her career, Michelle has appeared in the “Vagina Monologues”, written a memoir “You Are What You Eat” and just completed a new dance album better suited to her tastes. You go GRRRL!
Track : 11 Title : Bleeding Love (Moto Blanco Vocal Club Mix) Artist : Leona Lewis
Leona Louise Lewis is an English singer-songwriter and winner of the third series of the popular television talent show “The X Factor”.
Her debut single, “A Moment like This”, was released in December 2006, breaking a world record after it was downloaded fifty thousand times within thirty minutes. Her second single “Bleeding Love” was the biggest selling single of 2007 in the United Kingdom. Her debut album, “Spirit”, was released in November 2007, and became the fastest selling debut album ever in both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. (taken from Wikipedia)
Expect a full out assault here in the U.S. this spring. Not only can this girl sing, but she’s H.O.T. to boot! Check out her video.
The debut album by Booty Luv is the album that just keeps on giving! This is the fourth single taken from that album with an amazing remix by 7th Heaven. My understanding is that they are working on a new album to be released later this year. Can’t hardly wait.
Track : 13 Title : Just Fine (Moto Blanco Club Vox) Artist : Mary J. Blige
Remember the uplifting Bobby Blanco remix of “Be With You”? Well, using their winning formula, Moto & Blanco have another “hands in the air” dance floor smash. I absolutely just love this song. Try it out, it’ll make you feel good all over!
