Glenn Underground’s output is quite extensive. This song is actually taken from his 2006 album Back To Basics. Just wait, you’ll immediately be drawn into the wonderful piano on this track.

Smooth house for you soul featuring the wonderful vocals of Jazmina.

Track : 4 Title : Release The Beauty (D3 Silky Re-Work) Artist : Rhody & Kaydee

Another smooth house number that lyrically kinda reminds me of TLC’s “Unpretty” many years back. The only problem I had with this was the mastering. It was overly compressed with excessive bass, treble and midrange. The song was too good to be left off, so I re-eq’d it the best I could without losing any fidelity. I hope I did well.

Also taken from the Soul Sessions EP, this is another smooth house number complete with da brass dropped in from time to time for a very sensual late night feel.

I Just love this song! Low key late night number featuring the sultry vocals of Malena Perez…very well done!

Taken from the EP Huh…? Sampler Vol. 1 by the newly formed house label out of Johannesburg, Africa WOT Recordings. Great low-key song with French or Dutch male vocals (?)…keep putting stuff out like this and this label will be hugely successful.

Really enjoy this guys work. Those of you who downloaded the Christmas Editionwill remember his outstanding re-work of the Charlie Brown Christmas theme (originally “Christmas Time Is Here” by Vince Guaraldi Trio). Jihad gives us another sweet piano workout with light synths and a nice syncopated beat throughout.

Originally released in 2006, this received a low-key chill out re-working in November of last year. Though pretty slow, I bumped up the BPM and looped the outro of the previous song to give it an entirely new feel. See what you think.

I had been sitting on this song for a while; trying to decide when the right time to use it might be. Well, that time is now. A cool little funky instrumental with a nice sax to help the transition into the remaining funkier elements of this mix.

One day in December I was going through the promos and popped on this song. Oh my God! I was blown away…what is the great hook carrying the song? Being the purveyor of all things pop music, It took me a while to figure out, but it’s actually “Happy Anniversary”; a top twenty hit for the Little River Band back in 1978! Who would have ever thought to sample that hook and use it in a house number? Brilliant!

Taken from Miguel Migs “Coast 2 Coast” album, this funky number completely satisfies with great vocals from the fabulous Lisa Shaw. “Hold on, better think it over, remember what you got…I’m a cherry on top”…yummy!

Track : 13 Title : Time (Original 12′’ Mix) Artist : The Candy Dealers

This song is from the Candy Dealers’ recently released EP “Disco Treats”. And what a funky treat this is. They use a bass and guitar lick familiar to the classic Chic sound from the seventies. Would be nice if the fabulous female vocals were credited.

Originally released on the Miami sampler from the spring of last year, this deep vocal house song gets a deserved re-work into this jazzy little funked up number. Wait ’til the brass kicks in… Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Taken from his recently released “Strobe Classics” album, RASE take it back, way back to the Philly Sound…and there ain’t no better place to be. Expect to hear more songs from this amazing album in the coming months. Guaranteed to make you wanna get up and shake your booty!

Track : 1 Title : The One (Terrence Parker Instr. Mix) Artist : Upper Street

Originally this song was supposed to the vehicle for some of the forgotten members of the boy bands from the eighties and nineties. You know, one of those bright ideas brought to you by the guys over at MTV. Fortunately, it never really took hold. The vocals and harmonies were tentative at best. Strip all that away, and you get this awesome remix by Terrence Parker.

Bring on the funk! Great number taken right out of the James Brown handbook…so much so I almost expected to hear him yelp in “Get On Up”…instead the vocals chime in with “C’mon On Up…Let me do my thing”. Can I get a HELL YEAH!?!!!

Track : 3 Title : Victim Of Loving You (Broken Down Mix) Artist : Colonel Abrams

The amazing Colonel Abrams bring us his classic from 1995. The Colonel cooks up some straight up house with a deep funky bassline, reminiscent of the Hall & Oates classic “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”. An edited version of this song resurfaced on the recently released “Strictly Todd Terry” compilation.

Track : 4 Title : Breathe You In (KJ’s Soulful Mix) Artist : Samantha James

Another fabulous single from Samantha’s “Rise” album gets a large roster of top producers to do the remix honors. This time around, with much better effect. None of that electro crap that doesn’t fit the song. “KJ’s Soulful Mix” is just that, soulful…while Eric Kupper delivers a more commercialized house production (not unlike the winning formula he used on “Rise”). Other notable mixes include “Andy Caldwell’s French Kiss Mix” & “Fiasco’s Puff Puff Mix”.

em>More underground alternative than most, this song is another one that just sucks you in. Sung in German, I have no fracking idea what the female vocalist is saying, but I like it! Slinky and mysterious, this song wouldn’t be out of place in a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Another one of those great low-key syncopated songs. Dollybird (don’t get me started on the name) provides some seriously vulnerable and sexy vocals. With lyrics like “I like it when you do it like that” and “I don’t mind you checking me out” it almost makes my wanna be straight! I said “almost” ; )

Track : 7 Title : Lately (Bravo Mikes Vocal Trip) Artist : Fakin Moves feat. Scott Wozniak

At first you think you’re in an eighties flashback treat from Wham’s “Everything She Wants”. The initial beats would certainly have you believe that. But the song, not unlike ESW, builds upon layers of deep synths. That’s about the only similarity. The overall dark overtone and beautiful vocals will transport you to another place, all the while setting you up for the next song…

em>…before you know it you’re listening to another song. Not unlike it’s predecessor, you’re washed away into Zentribe’s dark world of deep house and never want to turn back.

Track : 9 Title : Lights Out (Kaskade Remix) Artist : Mr. O feat. Sara Smith

Released in the spring of last year, it’s unfathomable how this song was ever missed. What’s even more surprising is the diversity Kaskade is showing in this sweet deep house number. Take that even further with Sara Smith’s fantastic vocals, and you’ve got yourself a real winner.

Appearing on my Mainstream Club Year-End Editionthis is definitely one of my favs from 2007. Matty’s slamming deep dub still provides plenty of vocals. If you like angry black women, then this and the next song will not disappoint!

I let “Disrespectful” slide right into this song for good reason. Both songs fit nicely together, and thematically are on the same page. Hard to pick a favorite since both represent some of the strongest Neo-soul in a long time. Chaka, Mary J. and Jill…you rock!

Track : 12 Title : Heaven (Marlon D. & G.A. Groovy Mix) Artist : Kem

Another late night slice of…well, heaven. It’s got a nice little percussive beat with light brass; a delicious guitar lick and a deep organ groove towards the end; all the while building up to a climax before dropping back down to the little samba like percussion. Sweet.

Track : 13 Title : Alright (Matty’s Soulflower Mix) Artist : Ledisi

Relative newcomer Ledisi received a nod for best new artist. So what happened to the R&B and Jazz categories? She’s an amazing talent and this album blows away most of the nominees. I guess they were afraid of handing Verve records a runaway hit like they did for Blue Note when Norah Jones won all the awards several years back. Shame.

Track : 14 Title : Twist In My Sobriety (Soul Buddha Remix) Artist : Les Adams feat. Alexis

A modest hit for Tanita Tikaram in 1988 that’s been covered by everyone from Goth Metal Bands (two in fact) some Chinese singer, Liza Minelli (on her Pet Shop Boys produced album) and now Les Adams. Personally, I didn’t care for the song then and only warmed up to it when it appeared on Liza’s album. Now we have several electro and progressive house mixes that are frankly, way off the mark. Why I listened long enough to discover the sole deep mix is beyond me…glad I did and you will too.

As promised, I’ve got the second installment of the Deep Edition v11 ready for delivery.  Where as the first mix was tailor-made for the club, this mix takes a more laid back approach to the progressive sound.  It’s kind of a chill mix, but not really.  There’s definitely some slammin’ tunes here, but not necessarily anything you would drop at 4am in the morning, unless you want to be pelted with beer cans…LOL.  Of course, it was intentional to separate the two different approaches out.  This way, after a long night of partying, you can go back and zone out using this mix as your backdrop. 

Keeping up the pace, I’ll be back Sunday with the next House Edition followed on Tuesday with the final Electro-Funk mix.  I know, I know everyone is waiting for the Holiday Edition and I promise it’s coming soon.  I’m just holding out to see if I can get my hands on some new Whitney or Deborah…hopefully the gods will shine their light on Party Favorz and make it happen.  If not, I’ve got a lot of great stuff for that mix anyway.  In the meantime, have a great weekend and as always…ENJOY!

We now resume our regularly scheduled programing…LOL!  I gotta tell ya, November has been one fracking crazy ass month.  From Halloween, my birthday, the elections, protesting “No on Prop 8″ and trying to get all of my doctor appointments, tests etc. scheduled before I lose my health insurance at the end of the month has been no easy task.  I’m pleased to say that I got it ALL done!  That in and of itself is a miracle.  Then, there’s the mixes and boy oh boy have I got a banger for you guys!  Originally, I started out wanting to make a final electro-funk mix for the year.  That’s now evolved into three separate mixes with the same cover art (in different colors) for deep, house and electro.  I was sitting on too much good stuff to let it go to waste.  In fact, as I dug deeper, I ended up going WAY over my music budget for the month.  Consider this a gift, because that won’t happen again.  What I’ve decided to do is stagger the releases over the next couple of weeks.  For instance, today you get deep take 1, Monday will be house take 1 and Wednesday electro-funk take 1 followed by take 2 every other day after.  The fact is, these mixes are long, so this allows you to digest your favorite before the next installment.  That is unless you’re one of those that digs everything I post, in which case, you’ve got your work cut out for you. 

After I get these mixes up over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be working on the Holiday Edition and then the year-end edition.  I’m trying to put up a forum for everyone (that something, something I had promised) but that’s going to take a little longer than anticipated.  I’m also now on Facebook and you are welcome to join me there by going to my profile and clicking on the link.

I’m serving up the final installment of the Deep Edition v10, a mix that got way out of control as far as I’m concerned.  It’s not that the music isn’t any good, but I really need to learn how to start editing myself…LOL.  If I had to rate this overall series, I’d probably give it a B+ taking off points for being bloated if not overindulgent.  At least now I can start focusing on the next House Edition which will be a serious departure from these progressive tunes.  I already see some issues regarding length there, but I’ll do my best to keep it down to two mixes, each within a reasoned timeframe.  It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s just that sometimes I kinda let the music take me away; can you say “ground control to Major Tom”?  That being said, Party Favorz wants to know what you think.  Was this overindulgent on my part, was it just right or did it flat out suck?  Leave me your thoughts, I promise not to take offense…well maybe…LOL.

As promised, I’ve got the third installment of this series for you guys (and gals).  Unlike its predecessors, this mix is darker and moodier and less commercial.  That is until you get to the last song, Morgan Page’s latest offering which is more mainstream prog.  I’ll be back tomorrow with the final installment and then I can move on to the next House Edition which will be a definite change of mood. 

I see that our subscriptions have gone up considerably ever since I joined the Widgetbox LGBT community.  I want to welcome all of the newbies.  Just so you know, the Deep series is not for everyone (particularly in the U.S.).  Stick around because there’s always something for everyone.

Sorry for the delay in getting this out today.  I’ve been bogged down with router issues and on the phone with Linksys pretty much all morning.  Then, my mom calls and she’s having computer problems.  Since she’s in Texas and I’m in Georgia, I usually just log into her computer and fix whatever needs fixing.  This time, her monitor is out.  After troubleshooting with her over the phone, I came to the conclusion she needs a new monitor.  Of course, she decided it would be best to get a newer and faster computer…LOL.  All she needed was an excuse to take it to my dad (even if her CPU was fine, he doesn’t know anything about computers).  Anyway, I can use my employee discount from Dell and picked out a really sweet deal for her.  I called a buddy of mine back home who’s in IT, and he agreed to go over and set it up for her and transfer all of her files at no charge.  At least, that will save me a lot of time on the phone with her.  I went ahead and got her the 4 year extended warranty so I can now just refer her to Dell when she has a problem…LOL.  I built my computer about 2 1/2 years ago and was thinking about swapping the motherboard and processor out this next month.  However, looking at Dell and the current prices with my discount, I could pick up what I want for about the same price with extended warranty…so I’m thinking what the heck.  My car is all taken care of and I do love new stuff like computers and stereo equipment.  I don’t know, sometimes I just can’t help myself.  As you can probably guess, next to house music and mixing, gadgets are my thing.  I definitely get on a high when I buy something new to play and tinker around with.

Anyway, I finally got this post put together for your listening pleasure and will try to have the third installment up early tomorrow so I can get back on the phone with Linksys and troubleshoot with their “expert” or so I’m told.  In keeping with Take 1, this mix is ultra long.  Hey, who was it that said “excess is best”.  Okay, that may not always be true, but in this case I think it applies.  I also got notice that I received another donation from IK in the UK.  Thank you very much, and folks keep ‘em coming.  Like I said, I’ll be in the clear next month so every little bit helps.  I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend and I’ll be back tomorrow with Take 3.  Until then…ENJOY!

Update:  I’ll tell you what…it’s been one of those days.  I’ve successfully uploaded twice already to Podbean and when I go to import the podcast to my download folder, it doesn’t show up.  What the f@#$!  Can I get a break or what?  Patience is a virtue of which I have very little right now.  If this doesn’t work, I’ll just pop a top, sit back, relax and try again tomorrow.  After all, it is Sunday and I’ve already pissed most of it away.  Geez.

Update #2:  I got a response indicating that my username and password had been reset due to my account being previously locked.    Anyway, better late than never.
