Janet was signed to a five record deal with A&M Records in the early 80s.  After the first two albums failed at radio and in the clubs, A&M was none to thrilled with their decision and even less excited about Janet going back into the studio for her third album in 1985.  Seeking to take control away from her domineering parents (both personally and professionally), Janet hooked up with music producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of “The Time” fame.  The end result, was a more mature sound with a harder, funkier edge than anything she had ever done.  That album was the mega-selling “Control.”  With no less than six top ten singles spawned from the album, “Control” set the stage for a new Jackson family superstar.

By the time she released “Rhythm Nation” in late 1989, Janet sealed the deal and all bets were off; she had now entered into the stratosphere of worldwide mega-entertainers.  Spawning seven top ten singles, “Rhythm Nation” was a mixture of hard hitting dance songs with a serious undertone and fun carefree songs that mixed well with Janet’s shy and easygoing personality.  By the time she performed “Black Cat” at the MTV Music Awards, we began to witness a slimmer and more confident Janet.  Once “Love Will Never Do Without You” was released, Janet’s image had morphed from tough little girl, to full out sexy beautiful woman.  With the transformation completed, she released a greatest hits album and signed a new multimillion dollar record deal with Virgin Records.  With a purported $80 million dollar contract in her mid-twenties, Janet was the highest paid artist in the industry, until Mariah Carey left Sony several years later.

From there, Janet went on to have great success with her releases.  That is until the incident involving a “wardrobe malfunction” at Super Bowl XXXVIII in early February of 2004.  While I’m not going to rehash the incident with her and Justin Timberlake here, the publicity stunt caused her record sales to plummet and a backlash at radio.  No matter what you might think of the “nipplegate,” controversy, Janet is a bonafide superstar worthy of her inclusion in this series.

For this final set, I thought I’d step down from my diamond encrusted soapbox and just talk briefly about this final mix.  Unlike the other sets, this one’s all about the NRG.  From 131 to 138 BPM, everything here is pretty much at break-neck speeds.  Packed with familiar gems, I found that compiling the songs with faster beats might be a better idea than meshing them in with the slower ones.  In fact, once I saw the disparity of the speeds, this was the first mix I decided to create.  From start to finish, this is just as worthy of the other sets.

I received an email from one of our followers yesterday who had jumped the gun and sent me an advance of $40 in anticipation of these four sets.  Having listened to the first two, he said these were “so gay.”  A term loosely used by kids today to mean “lame “ or “stupid.”  Of course, I knew what he meant and I’m glad he liked them.  Yeah, these are pretty fucking gay sets, as they were intended.  The songs I chose to include are simply frivolous and fun.  As such, I thought I might ask everyone that’s purchased them so far to please leave a comment on the fan page under each mix and tell me what you think.  Too gay or not gay enough?  What’s your favorite set and why.  I think your feedback would be invaluable for those currently sitting on the fence as to whether or not they’ll make a donation to my efforts.  Frankly, I’ve been listening to the finished product for the past month or so and just can’t seem to get sick of them, which is usually the case with my other mixes.  For me, it doesn’t get any better than driving around with my sunroof open on a beautiful day in the ATL and blasting the queerest songs on the planet.  It certainly raises a lot of eyebrows at our local Starbucks, which is nothing more than a local gay hangout.  I bet if I could pull into the parking lot and blast these mixes through some giant JBLs,  I could have those queens up and out of their seats with their mochas in tow, dancing around like a bunch of silly school girls.  So please, tell me what you think, I’d love to hear from each and everyone of you.

Ultimately, if you haven’t been bouncing off the walls to these songs, then I either didn’t do my job correctly or we need to strip you of all of your gay credentials.  Frankly, I’m leaning towards the latter LOL.  I hope you enjoyed the music so far and I look forward to making a companion package to these mixes in the spring of 2010.  I want to thank everyone that has supported my efforts to give back to Equality Across America.  For those holding out to see if these will ever be free, sorry it ain’t gonna happen. 

So what’s next for Party Favorz?  I’m glad you asked.  Between now and the end of the year, you can expect a couple of Diva Series, at least two BPM Editions (which are going to be HOT), a T-Dance Edition and the Holiday Edition.  I’m wide open as to whether I’ll do a Year-End Edition this go around.  I haven’t made up my mind just yet, though if I do, there’s a good chance I’ll spill that into early January.  As you can see, time is running out and I have a lot on my plate.  When all is said and done, I plan on taking a month off for some much needed rest and to work on other projects I’ve got going.

My father and I have a Sunday ritual calling each other to catch up on the previous weeks’ personal and political events.  Often times, these friendly discussions get heated as he role’s off the talking points from the GOP like they had been implanted in his brain.  He is my best friend and someone who I admire and deeply respect; a man that I’ve tried to emulate most of my life, but could never quite match the awesomeness of him.  We not only resemble each other, but sound alike as well.  No one would ever doubt that I am his son.  However, when it comes down to philosophies, that’s pretty much where the resemblance ends. 

Both he and my mother are devout Catholics and their faith became more intricately intertwined with the church after my brother’s death in 1986; meanwhile, I was going the opposite direction.  Despite that, he has always been steadfast in his beliefs about me and my brother.  That is, he believes we were born gay and did not purposely choose a life of “difficulty.”  He has also said on more than one occasion, that if he had his choice, we would have not been born gay.  His reasoning is that our lives would have been so much easier due to the lack of acceptance by mainstream society.  Perhaps he is right, though I don’t necessarily think I would change anything other than my chin (a Whitworth family trait), I like who I am.

Several months ago, in one of our conversations, he asked how my partner and I were holding up.  (Sidenote: Rick had been hospitalized after one of his doctors prescribed medications that were contradictory to his high blood pressure medicine, sending him to the emergency room, where he was subsequently hospitalized for a week due to kidney failure.  He has since been on dialysis and should be off by the end of the year.  I had surgery less than a month later with complications afterwards that lasted a month and a half and am now in therapy to see if I’ll be able to walk like the rest of you good folks).  He then when on to ask about our relationship and if we were “there” for each other.  At this point, I was becoming uneasy with his questions, but assured him that that was the case.  Then he went on to ask if we really “loved” and “cared” for each other.  “You know son, your mother and I have been married for 48 years and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make it work.”  I was blown away by that question and approached my answer using humor, the only way I know how to respond when I’m in an uncomfortable situation.  Rick and I have been together since 2001 and now live like an old married couple.  We often know what the other is thinking.  We often finish each other’s sentences.  Heck, I can even tell when he’s being less than truthful and when one of us needs a good tongue lashing, neither of us are afraid to tell each other like it is.  It’s taken 23 years for my father and I to have this conversation.  Naturally, I was nervous when I heard these questions come out of his mouth.  Answering with humor was the only way I could squelch my own discomfort.  My response gave him a good chuckle and we were finally able to move on.

I guess my point is, that even though he’s not going to throw his beliefs out the window anytime soon, I do believe that it’s possible to slowly win hearts and minds over the “marriage equality” and “equal rights” debate currently at the forefront of the American conscience.  No doubt he’s read about it and is continually barraged with antigay sentiment in many of his news programs.  In particular, O’Reilly always likes to show gay pride parades in San Francisco and uses that to frame all homosexuals as one giant cliché.  Fortunately, one of my fathers best friends’ son has been in a long term relationship with another man and lives in Austin (TX).  Several years ago, he and his partner adopted a Korean boy.  Both are professionals and at one point decided they needed some vacation time alone.  They called on grandpa (my father’s friend) to take care of his grandson while they were away, which he proudly did.  This is yet another excellent example of our lives that my father has been exposed to and has helped frame his awareness on LGBT issues.  Acceptance begins at home and I have been fortunate to have parents that have accepted my partner, invited him into their home for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas and treated him like family.  Sadly, that’s not always the case with others in our community.

There are many in the LGBT community who believe we should try to win the hearts and minds of the public, in order for us to gain full equality in society.  While the examples above prove that it is possible, at the end of the day, that’s just not realistic.  Why should we be putting our lives up for a vote, only to have it knocked back by the haters, who have been galvanized by their own bigotry or worse yet, the Catholic and Mormon church?  If that’s the case, I’ll be long dead and cremated before that ever happens.  Yes, we should be trying to win victories by running for office at the local and national level.  Yes, we should be urging our legislatures at the state and national level to support legislation that equalizes us.  When this gets lost on them or they fail to keep the promises that they made to us, then I believe it is not only our right, but our to duty protest, even if it means closing our purses and withholding donations to their reelection campaigns.  When protest is no longer viable, I have no problem moving the argument to civil disobedience. 

With no credible evidence to support their claims, the Teabaggers constantly site the Constitution and how Obama is trampling all over it.  Yet, when we point out that we are constitutionally being denied our equal rights under the 14th amendment, it tends to fall on deaf ears, while religion and scripture are used to validate this blatant discrimination.  I have long since left the Catholic church and have nothing but disdain for the very hypocrisy that is spewed from their coffers, even as far up as the Pope.  Not having a very good record on morality themselves, who the hell are they or anyone else to dictate how we should live our lives?  Brainwashed and indoctrinated into this cult since birth, I often find it difficult to reconcile my belief in something much greater than myself and that of fictional characters from a book of fables written by and for humans.  This is something I struggle with on a daily basis.  Nevertheless, I have no problem calling the church out for its proclivities.  Make no mistake, this isn’t a struggle, this is a fight and one that we will ultimately win.  Why?  Because righteousness always triumphs over evil.

I realize that many of us are content with our lives and have never experienced discrimination based on their sexuality.  You can thank those that have come before us for that.  However, many of our brothers and sisters are victims; a word I don’t use lightly, as I don’t believe in the rampant use of victimology.  Whether it be in employment, housing, estate, insurance or simply trying to be with the one you love and have questions answered when they’ve been taken to the emergency room, it is entirely possible that at some point in your life, you will be discriminated against and in the worst way.  In my own recent experience with Rick, I was very fortunate to have doctors and nurses treat me with respect and provide me with information as to Rick’s condition.  Then again, once stabilized in the emergency room, Rick informed them I was his partner and to deny me answers to my questions, muchless prevent me from visiting him, could set off a public display they may not be prepared to deal with LOL.  Sadly, that wasn’t the case for Janice Langbehn when she was recently kept apart from her partner, who slipped into a coma and subsequently died in a Miami hospital.  While this is only one example of injustice against us, there are a slew of instances you may have not even considered yet.  In reality you will be confronted with the issue of discrimination one day.  Is that really the best time to be asking for help or would you rather have a legal framework in place for you to use against those that would harm you?

We all have busy lives, I get it.  Whether your supporting organizations like Equality Across America with your donations or giving up your time to get involved at the local level, everything helps.  If you’re blindly moving through life and hoping others will take care of these problems for you, shame on you.  No one is asking the world of you.  Read up, get interested and get involved, anyway you can.  Then and only then will you have a better understanding of what’s at stake for us and future generations.  Don’t allow hatred, bigotry and discrimination rule the day.

I’m probably the only person on the planet that never saw the original Broadway play of “Rent.”  The closest I came was to seeing the theatrical version, which was a big disappointment.  Maybe because the play dealt with the AIDS issue at a time when everything seemed hopeless and the movie version came out so long after it had its run on Broadway that it seemed to lose its relevance.  Regardless, I absolutely adore the original version of this song, as well as  the Gomi remix.  Historic in nature, this song belongs in the annals of gay anthems.

What can I say?  Jennifer is my girl.  Okay, one of many who deliver the goods with every performance.  Ten years after dominating the club charts, Tony Moran breathed new life into it with his own remixes in 1996.  Once again, the song topped the charts moving every gay body into a frenzy on the dancefloor.  Both versions are outstanding, though Tony’s was the only one that I could mix out of “Seasons of Love.”

Upon the death of one of the gay communities oldest and biggest icons, it was only fitting the a series of remixes come out to  honor our beloved Cat Woman.  Based on Eartha’s 1984 #7 hit, 7th Heaven went back and polished it up and had the Gucci boys loving it all over again.  Grrrr…

I’m guessing Gold Mine Records (subsidiary to Salsoul Records) was hard up for money as the acapellas to Loleatta’s back catalogue have been up for sale.  As a result, there’s been a slew of new mixes that have been coming out since last year.  Most of them are pretty much shit.  Though, Midnight Express has tackled this song with sincerity and excellence.  Expect to hear it on my upcoming BPM and T-Dance editions by the end of the year.  For now, I passed up on the excellent 2006 Freemasons remix of the song in favor of this ultra rare 7th Heaven remake.

One half of Sylvester’s backup singers “Two Tons O’ Fun” and later the “Weather Girls” (It’s Raining Men), Martha was not only the big voice behind hits like “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” and “Everybody Everybody” by Black Box, but she’s has numerous #1 club hits under her belt as well.  Yet once again, Martha delivered the goods on this 2007 #1 monster produced by Tony Moran.  Far from hanging her hat up, “the queen of clubland” has been back in the studio working on new material.  Girl just keeps her body working making us sweat everytime we here that big ole voice on the dancefloor.  Love me some Martha.

It’s always difficult when an artist tackles such an iconic song by one of pop music’s legendary divas.  That is, unless your Kristine W.  Released in January 2008 and part of her recently released “The Power of Music” album, this Diana Ross remake went on to huge success, lighting up dancefloors around the globe.  While there is a fantastic Almighty remix of Diana’s original version (who is already well represented here), I thought it pertinent to include Kristine’s masterful rendition instead.

One of my favorite songs from 2007 about empowerment and standing up to injustice makes the list.  Not just because of D’Layna’s amazing vocal performance and the empowering lyrics, but because of the kick-ass sample of A Taste of Honey’s 1978 disco classic “Boogie Oogie Oogie” used to propel the song.

With so many Shena songs to choose from, I opted for this sing-a-long personal favorite.  Shena is one of three current dance divas that I totally adore and wait with anticipation for each new release.  The other two being Katherine Ellis and Amanda Wilson.  One listen and you’ll be singing and dancing along as well.

Recently, I was criticized for using a title to my blog that has long been associated with drug use.  What these individuals do not know is the story behind “Party Favorz” which was coined by friends upon my arrival at afterhours parties in South Texas where I grew up.  Since I was a kid, I was always the one looked to, to provide the entertainment at parties.  My love for all music continued into my adult life with a preference for house music, disco and all other forms of dance music.  When I would show up at these afterhours parties, I was always asked if I brought any “party favors” with me.  That reference was to cool dance music that would be played in the background at these late night gatherings.  The name stuck and that’s what I have been calling my mixes since 1999.  To lesson the confusion, I even have a ‘description’ about this site on the left hand column that always seems to get lost on the haters or at the very least ignored:

Party Favorz is a series of mainstream/circuit club mixes that I started making for friends in 1999. Over the years, the mixes evolved into my own special blend of electro-pop and happy house. In 2007, at the urging of friends, I decided to take everything online and the Party Favorz blog was born. Whether you’re gay, straight, black, white, pink or purple, Party Favorz knows no boundaries and everyone IS welcome here. Comments and suggestions are always appreciated; in fact they are encouraged. Regardless of the play on words, Party Favorz does not promote nor endorse the use of drugs. Frankly, house music is the only drug your body needs to have a good time. Live, Work, Play and Dance…just do it responsibly. Now on to the music!

Additionally, my followers have also been criticized for being uneducated “party boys” who lived for the circuit and drug use.  That could be further from the truth.  While I don’t personally know everyone that follows this site, many of them are professionals from doctors, nurses, lawyers, graphic designers, trainers and educators.  To make a generalized statement about people who like to go out on weekends, dance, unwind and just have fun is a misnomer.  They are everyday people from all walks of life who are able to balance their professional lives with their private lives.  Whatever happens after the leopard spots from the disco ball fades, is no one’s business but theirs.  For all the haters, I suggest you worry about cleaning your own backyard before worrying about your neighbors.

As we move through this series, you might notice a large amount of these songs have been re-worked by a production group called “Almighty” a record label out of the UK, which consists of DJ Andy Almighty, who is also a part of the production teams “7th Heaven” and “Club Junkies.”  He also works closely with some of the dance industry’s biggest talents like  “Soulshaker” and “Bassmonkeys” and a slew of other big name producers like “Cahill” “Stonebridge” “Soul Seekerz” “Jason Nevins” “Moto Blanco” and “Wideboys“; many of whose works are prominently featured throughout these four sets.  DJ Andy Almighty’s bio on his MySpace Page states that he is a “DJ/club promoter, producer/remixer, dance music industry guru and gay scene legend!”  I would take it a step further and suggest he is a gay icon, right up there with Madonna. 

2009 marks the 20th anniversary for Almighty Records, a feet that’s practically unheard of in the dance music industry.  They are celebrating this marked occasion with their “Essentials” collection which debuts one new release each month.  The gay community is blessed for the great efforts of DJ Andy Almighty and his organization for breathing life into these timeless classics and opening them up to an entirely new generation of clubgoers.  For that, we are most humbled and entirely in your indebtedness for making our lives that much richer.  We thank you from the bottom of our little queer hearts.

It was once said that if you did not own a copy of Madonna’s “Immaculate Collection” Erasure’s “POP! 20 Hits” and Pet Shop Boys “Discography: The Complete Singles Collection” you should have your platinum gay card revoked.  While the statement was intended to be tongue in cheek, the truth is, I like many of my friends have all of these CDs.  Maybe there was some truth in there.

In 1985, when my brother returned from a year long stint in Europe, he had brought back several albums including the 12” of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax” the Eurythmics’ “Touch” (well before its U.S. release) and Bronski Beat’s “Age of Consent.”  Listening to Bronski Beat for the first time, I was completely taken away by the obviousness of the lyrics from “Smalltown Boy” and “Why.”  I knew this album was speaking to me.  It was then that I realized that my brother and I had the same, uh…sexual preferences; that and the Blue Boy magazines he had hidden in his closet, which I found rather entertaining.

In 1989, The collaboration between the Pet Shop Boys and Liza on her now classic album “Results” was every queens dream.  From camp to cabaret, it has all the drama a girl could ever endure and then some.

To me, Barbara Tucker is the ultimate diva.  In fact, she was my very first inductee into the “Diva Hall of Fame” back in 2008.  With hits like “Beautiful People” “I Get Lifted” “Stop Playing with My Mind” and more recently “Love Vibrations” she has this every present coolness factor that I can never shake off.  Originally released in 2005, “Most Precious Love” didn’t really take off until the following year when the Freemasons were enlisted and gave it a “proper” mix.  From there, the song became history.

The minute I heard the 7th Heaven remix of this #1 classic gay anthem from 1995, I was immediately immersed in the the powerful vocals and the powerful lyrics.  Sabrina, who has been all over the place lately, takes the self-loathing lyrics and provides serious emotional value.  Written from the point of view of someone born into disadvantage, the song never provides a solution.  Perhaps there should be a part 2 where our protagonist is settled and happy.

The newer 2009 remixes of this song didn’t quite do this empowered angry queen classic any justice.  Sticking with the original, it’s as fresh as the day it came out in 2000.

This update of this 1991 dance/pop song by 7th Heaven breathes new life into it making a classic all over again.  Lonnie still performs regularly in the UK and is expected to have some new material in 2010.

It’s hard to pin down the gospel singer from Michigan, who provided us with this massive tune and “Love Revolution.”  When I first heard this re-work last year, I found myself bouncing all over the place, mouthing off to the words “you make me feel like I wanna spell everything.”  Miss Hodges, you need to come out of hiding because we need more anthems like this.

George’s 1998/99 classic came about as a result of his arrest for engaging in a lewd act.  Many of us have been there before, cruising in a public restroom, park, botanical gardens, truck stop, etc.  Though I plea the fifth, it was George’s official coming out that made even more news.  No doubt, many a young woman’s heart was broken upon hearing their 80s heartthrob was gay.  Then again, us boys were saying, “and that’s news?”

Track : 10 Title : Free Gay & Happy  (Extended Vocal Mix) Artist : Verde feat. Justine Purchase : No longer Available

“Free Gay & Happy” was originally released in 1994/95 by the Coming Out Crew featuring the fabulous vocals of Sabrina Johns(t)on.  Though there was some confusion due to the dropped “t” in her name, it is the one and only Miss Johnston who provides the original vocals.  The song itself is a testimony to gay liberation and rightfully earns its spot in the greatest gay anthems of all time.  Though updated by Almighty featuring the vocals of their very own Disco Divas, I opted to go with the version by Verde which is featured on last year’s Fierce Angel compilation and my own Pride Edition 2008 volume 4 .

Track : 11 Title : Flawless (Phunk Investigation Club) Artist : The Ones Purchase : Beatport

Officially released in 2001, “Flawless” by The Ones is said to be inspired by the 1999 film starring Robert De Niro and Phillip Seymour Hoffman of the same name.  Already a worldwide smash prior to its release, the song comprised of a single relentless hook was later remade by George Michael with added lyrics.  No matter how you slice it or dice, this song is a crowd pleaser, even to this day.

The Moto Blanco mix is part of a 2006 promotional remix CDR by Sony that was released providing even more oomph to this #1 club anthem about sexual freedom from 2005. Oddly, we haven’t heard anything from this French beauty since then.

Hands in the air for this massive comeback for Miss Blige from 2006.  Though she initially wasn’t a fan of the dance remixes of her songs, after the Thunderpuss twist of “No More Drama” this only further solidified her base within the gay community.

For the longest time, I thought Peyton was a black man.  It turns out he’s a white guy from North Carolina who was raised in the Pentecostal church.  It wasn’t until he moved to the UK (where he currently resides) and was fortunate to have this gospel tinged song released on Hed Kandi.  Though he’s more popular in Europe than in the states, one listen to “A Higher Place” and you to will be singing the praises of the Lord.  In case you’re wondering, yes he’s gay.

This is an amazing 2006 rework of Heather’s original from several years earlier, which was prominently featured on the “Queer as Folk” soundtrack and Showtime series.  This is a brilliantly sung song by the ex M People vocalist, which still moves me to tears and that’s not easily done.

Exactly what constitutes a “gay anthem?”  According to Wikipedia, “A gay anthem or LGBT anthem is a song that has become widely popular among, or has become identified with, the LGBT community; usually with gay men. The lyrics of gay anthems are often marked with hope against the odds, pride, unity, or defiance.”  The book Queer even takes it further by breaking it down into categories”:

Looking over the list, I can honestly say “gotcha covered.”  I have taken some liberty by extending the definition to include specific songs that hit a nerve with the gay dance community despite the lack of a big diva voice, despair, empowerment or defiance in its overall theme.  In fact, a gay anthem could just be some HUGE song that we all know the words to and the minute the first notes ring out of the speakers in the club, the floor is immediately packed and our hands are raised in the air while we lose ourselves in it’s sugar-coated, meaningless lyrics and repetitive beats. 

Another area that I thought was important to cover in this list are songs that were never intended to be any type of anthem.  Instead, these would be pop songs that we all know and love and have been performed by many a drag queen over the years.  Fortunately, the fabulous boys over at Almighty Records understand our affiliation and importance of these songs and have even taken some of them and remixed them into high energy powerhouse monsters for the floor.  Now folks, it just don’t get any better than that.

Probably one of the most important aspects of a good gay anthem is that of empowerment.  One that says “we’re mad as hell and not going to take this shit no more.”  One that asks you to “rise up” or “stand up for what you believe.”  One that says “keep up the good fight” or ‘we shall overcome.”   Yes, there definitely is a theme within this context and there’s plenty of that and more over the four sets I have compiled.  Probably the best thing about gay anthems is that you can move your body and shake your ass to a message that melds with the beats.  From the divas to the messages to the hypnotic memorable hook, gay anthems are what keeps us moving, immersed and most importantly they’re what unifies us.

No introductions required here.  The Dreamgirls star became a sensation in the early 80s with her rendition of this song from the Broadway play.  It wasn’t until 2001 that the dance mixes from Rosabel and Junior Vasquez took the song to #6 on Billboards Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart.  The vocals were re-recorded for this Almighty version giving it an entirely new feel for generations of queers to come. An essential in any gay card carrying member’s music collection.

In 1976, Diana’s initial foray into disco took her straight to the top of the pop and disco charts.  Featured prominently in the movie “Looking For Mr. Goodbar” this song along with it’s companion by Thelma Houston (see #12 below) are considered among disco’s biggest hits.

Critically acclaimed and Grammy Award nominee, R&B newcomer Maiysha struck a homerun with the second release from her album “This Much Is True.”  What is true, she’s an amazing vocalist and someone to watch out for in the coming years.  If you haven’t heard the Josh Harris production of this song, you’re in for a real treat.

Ultra Nate has been a longstanding favorite of the gay community.  “Free” the #1 club song from 1997 was the gay pride anthem of the year.  Expect an updated Freemason’s version sometime in 2010, which should be fabulous!

Heavily sampling the 1979 classic disco track “This Time Baby” by Jackie Moore, this former #1 from 2007 just got a makeover on the Freemason’s recently released “Shakedown 2” album.  With amazingly dead-on vocals by Amanda Wilson, anticipations are running high that we might be served with a full version sometime in 2010.

Byron updated this 1978 disco classic with vocals the eerily recall the late, great Sylvester.  His 1998 #1 club hit deserves accolades for an amazing rendition with snippets of of other Sylvester hits like “Do You Wanna Funk.”

To this date, I don’t believe that anyone’s has licensed the original vocals by Candi Staton’s 1976 disco classic.  The good news is that she’s taken her gospel work and is finally getting back into the club scene.  Regardless, Hannah Jones (You Only Have To Say You Love Me, No One Can Love You More Than Me) does a fantastic re-work of this song.

Originally released in 1998, this uplifting gospel track got some well-deserved 2007 remixes.  7th Heaven took the honors and delivered a heaping slice of disco heaven with a positive message.

With 80s disco classics like “Gonna Get Along Without You” “If You Could Read My Mind” (yes, she did it first) and “Stormy Weather” the queen of 80s NRG was poised to make a comeback after she signed to Harlequin Records.  Doing her legacy proud, “Enjoy Yourself” is a romping disco treat that will go down in the annals of all-time gay anthems.  Sadly, Viola passed away earlier this year.  RIP Viola, you will be missed.

Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way” is considered to be one of disco’s all-time greatest.  The Almighty treatment brings it to a whole new generation of club goers making it a must have in any gay anthem compilation.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!  Erasure and Almighty make a fabulous paring.  Also be on the lookout for “A Little Respect” and “Oh L’amour” in the Almighty archives.  Grab them before they’re gone!

Originally released in the late 70s not once, but twice and failing to make a dent on the charts, Motown re-released it again in 1982 where it became a worldwide smash landing the #2 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.  Featured in the 1994 gay film classic “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” this song has been played out by every drag queen from around the world.  This unlikely remix from 2008 features Charlene (Oliver) reprising her biggest hit and taking it to the floor.  What a fabulous delight!

Taking a page out of the Leann Rimes handbook, Wynonna (Judd) authorized remixes for her latest single earlier this year.  Party Favorz is glad she did, because “Sing” is an emotional and uplifting song falling under the empowerment category.  

After much delay, Gay Anthems 2009 is finally making its debut.  Over two months in the making, this four mix set originally intended for release in honor of the recent “National Equality March” in Washington will finally have a staggered release beginning November 10th.  Disappointed by the current crop of organizations that have been lackluster in securing full LGBT equality and given my limited resources,  I wanted to do something to support the efforts of “Equality Across America” a grassroots organization that was born out of the march.  I could think of no better way than to do what it is I do best. 

Gay Anthems 2009 spawns four decades of activism and anthems.  There is something here for everyone.  More importantly, the majority of the songs contained in these four sets have been updated for today’s dancefloors.  From Diana Ross to Kristine W, it’s all here.  Well, almost all here.  Never fear, if this goes over as well as I hope, I plan on doing a second part to this series in the spring of 2010.

There are a total of four mixes; simply donating $10 per set will allow you to download the mix, create an mp3 CD for playback at home or in your car, transfer it to your iPod so you can use it for your workouts or even have a ‘happy house’ party.  To ensure full transparency (a word carelessly bandied around these days) I will be donating 80% of the proceeds to “Equality Across America” 5% to my host provider Podbean and PayPal with the remaining 15% going towards my own personal costs in compiling this release.  I also plan on listing the first initial and last names of donors at the end of each month and the amount to be donated to EAA.  For those that wish not to be identified, just request to remain anonymous in the comment section of your donation. 

I can honestly say that I have spent more time on these four mixes than anything I have ever done.  For those that don’t follow my blog, anyone that does can tell you that my mixes are of the highest caliber.  From song selection, editing, mixing to the final mastering for superior sound quality, I don’t spare anything in my work. For the slightly technically inclined, I even provide a cue sheet to split the tracks up for easier access that doesn’t leave a gap in-between songs.  Also, each mix is embedded with the original artwork, which will show up in any mp3 player with a video screen and track lists so you know what you’re listening to.  For those of you that want to own the individual songs, I also provide purchase links for those songs that are still currently available for legal download within each post.

When my brother died of AIDS in 1986 and my parents were turned down by no less than four funeral homes for embalming and burial (the owners of one of these were even good friends of the family), it was then that I became aware of the discrimination against not only the disease, but our community as well.  To ad insult to injury, an ex-girlfriend of mine sent an editorial from the Texas A&M University newspaper, where my brother was about to graduate, which addressed the death of a current student from AIDS while cowardly avoiding his name and demanding the university do a better job of preventing “people like him” from attending for fear of spreading disease.  Burning with anger, these incidences made it that much more difficult for me to come out of the closet and live my life as an openly gay man.  For the longest time, I blamed him for all my problems.  I now know, I was wrong.

Over the years, like many of us, I became complacent as long as no one was stepping on my toes.  With the free flow of information in blogs and YouTube these days, my eyes have been opened wide to the hate, bigotry and discrimination that takes place almost on a daily basis from as high up as our own government.  I will no longer sit idly by while our rights under the Constitution of this great country are continually trampled upon.  With a plethora of allies in the Congress and in the White House, it’s up to us to put the pressure on our representatives to ensure they hold up their promises.  I no longer believe that winning hearts and minds is the best way for us to obtain our indelible rights.  As California and Maine have proven, relying on the voting public to make decisions about our lives is at the very least foolhardy and at best, just plain stupid.  While I am not endorsing civil disobedience, at some point it may be time to take a few pages out of the ACT UP handbook.  For now, I am willing to be led by those that so fervently give us their time and leadership in an effort to achieve our goals.  Those leaders would be Equality Across America.

Finally, I want to dedicate these mixes to my brother Bruce.  I’m sorry that we couldn’t become closer as your experiences and knowledge would have been invaluable to me in my own personal journey.  I did manage to sneak a few of your favorites into these mixes, I hope you approve.  By the way, do you remember that chick named Madonna who you said was “all style and no substance?”  Well, she went on to become one of the biggest entertainers in history and, get this, a gay icon.  For the record, Madonna isn’t fat!  I miss you brother.

Please help to support this worthwhile cause.  Even if you are currently complacent much like I was for so long, at some point in your life you are likely to brush up against discrimination and wish you had helped to make a better life for yourself, your spouse and/or your children.  We need your help.

Volume 2 teeters on the mainstream cusp, while retaining it’s underground authenticity.  It’s possible a couple of these songs might fit nicely in my upcoming Holiday Edition, but I’m hopeful that there will be so much new stuff that won’t be necessary.  To be certain, there are lots of fantastic vocals in this set with a couple of amazing remakes.  In that category we have an updated version of “Any Love” by Izzy Stardust and Sherell McKenzie.  For those of you following this blog regularly, the original was from earlier this year by the DJ Meme Orchestra and featured on my T-Dance Edition v2.  This go around, Izzy and Sherell take it deeper and darker from the disco laden version of DJ Meme.  The fact that it works so well is a testament to how solid the song is. 

The other remake in this set should be familiar to almost all house music enthusiast.  “Touch Me” by  Kid Massive and Elliotte Williams N’Dure takes the Rui Da Silva classic down a darker path.  All the elements are here making this a surefire winner.  It did take a while to grow on me, only because I couldn’t get Cassandra’s vocals out of my head while listening to this version.  After a couple of spins, I’m all about this take.

Song for song, this second set really stacks up nicely.  I picture this new series to take on a variety of house flavors going forward.  Beatportal recently had a fantastic article called “2009: The Year of Disco” which talks about the resurgence of disco in these desperate times, which is required reading for any serious house music lover.  The only thing they left out was some of the nudisco artists that I tend to favor.  No matter, I’ll hunt them all down and no doubt will come across some other goodies along the way so I can use in a future Leftovers set.  You also might remember an article I did back in December of 2007 which talked about the very same thing; albeit I was referencing some of the more mainstream productions by the likes of Moto Blanco, Freemasons and 7th Heaven. Regardless, it does appear my initial conclusions were right on target, even if there was a two year gap between articles.  In the end, it’s all good.

That’s about it for today.  I’m currently readying the Gay Anthems I’ve been promising and should have those out this next week.  The weather for this past week has been amazing with cooler temperatures, plenty of sunshine and most importantly, NO RAIN!  I hope everybody else is able to enjoy the same type of autumn weather we’re experiencing in the ATL.  Have a fantastic weekend and as always…enjoy!

Periodically, I feel the need to separate myself from the other work I do on this site and create these fantastic underground house sets.  After spending more time than I ever have putting together the Gay Anthem mixes (set to release next week), I needed a break.  When I mean break, I’m talking about something completely different that I can lose myself in.  I find this music invigorating and actually helps my overall creative flow. 

Going forward, the Leftovers series will be something that pops up from time time.  Basically, these are a collection of songs that I really like, but didn’t have a place to put them in the other Party Favorz editions.  What I did was go back and pick several songs that were previously set aside and then headed on over to Beatport and Masterbeat and picked up a few more to round out the set.  After listening to my last BPM Edition, you folks probably had a good sense that this might be coming.  In fact, one of my new favorite legal download sites is DJ Tunes.  While they carry many of the same items that Traxsource and Beatport do, the navigation and the way they separate out the genres makes it much easier for me to find what I like.  Trust me, I buy a lot from the aformentioned two download services, but I find this one more accessible to my needs.  Besides, there’s always room for one more favorite site to shop at.

No point in going over what the top picks are here, because they all are.  In fact, I liked “How I Feel” by Focus Audio feat. Sherelle McKenzie so much, I included two different versions…LOL!  Okay, so that was a mistake, but I put these together so fast, it was just an oversight.  For the most part, there was very little editing (accept when the intro went on for an eternity in a couple of cases).  The whole concept is to throw these together quickly and maintain the whole integrity of the songs, giving the set a looser, live feel than my other work.  I think I have achieved that.

So, if underground house is your thing, you’re gonna love these.  If not, you’ll just have to wait until my next BPM Edition later this month.  That’s about it for today.  I’ll be back sometime this weekend with volume two.

I guess I should stop making promises for a certain date, as things inevitably come up.  At least I’m only a day late with plenty of time before Halloween and Pride (for the ATL) this weekend.  Anywho, let’s get down to it.

This particular mix is decidedly more circuit oriented with lots of big room beats to spread around.  One of my big big favorites of the moment is the Simone Denny and Barry Harris collaboration “Drama Queen.”  Ooh, did I just write Barry Harris?  You bet!  The former half of Thunderpuss has now returned from exile with his guns blazing!  One of the things I didn’t get around to mentioning in the recent Chrome Edition 2003, was that 2003 was the year Thunderpuss split, despite the fact that the TP franchise was still very much in demand by artists and club goers around the globe.  Both Barry and Chris gave separate interviews to About.com in 2004 which cover their early years and how Thunderpuss came about down to their amicable split in 2003.  Fast forward to 2009, and Barry’s back with “Drama Queen” a ripping track where circuit meets 80s electronica.  This is a hot original production from Barry that attempts to break up the monotony of many of today’s circuit tracks.  While the actual song doesn’t cover any new territory, it’s familiar theme rings well with the gay crowd; but it’s the actual production that people will be shaking to.  I’m hoping this isn’t a one off and that we’ll be getting even more from Barry in the near future.  For now, all I want to say is “welcome back Barry, we missed you!”

I also want to give a HUGE shoutout to my new favorite producer Matt Moss from New York.  A graphic designer by day (he’s gotta pay the bills) and producer/DJ/remixer the rest of the time, like many of us, Matt has been hit by the recession.  Matt approach’s each production based on what the song requires rather some cookie cutter formula where you just slap on the vocals over the same basic beats like many other producers do (without mentioning names).  It’s his unique style and unquestionable understanding of his craft that makes him a surefire bet for success.  I’ve included two of his mixes in this set.  The first “Wendy Williams Theme” an ode to the infamous gossip talk trash radio host, which is nothing short of pure fun!  The second mix is Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” which he has completely re-worked from top to bottom making this a welcome addition for the upcoming Pride festivities this weekend in the ATL.  Matt seems to think these are not his best work, and maybe not (I haven’t had the chance to listen to everything), but they are outstanding productions that are sure to move the boys on any dancefloor from coast to coast.  You can check out Matt’s work on his blog at mattmossforever.com.  Make sure to drop him a note, especially if you pick up anything for use in your own sets.  I promise you, he’s a really nice guy without the attitude and like most of us, would love to have some feedback about his work.   

Finally, you may have noticed an Eagles song in the tracklist.  Last year’s Halloween Edition included the memorable remake of the Ministry classic “(Every Day is) Halloween” by Dangerous Muse.  I didn’t really have anything that would fit for this year’s gay ghouls and goblins, but when I recently came across Alex Dubbing’s rework of “Hotel California” I knew this was an absolute must.  Check out the lyrics and you’ll understand why:

Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice And she said, we are all just prisoners here, of our own device And in the master’s chambers, They gathered for the feast The stab it with their steely knives, But they just can’t kill the beast

And that’s my wrap-up for the week.  I’m going to be super busy the next two or three weeks, but will somehow manage to complete the much delayed gay anthems I had been promising.  I’ve already have the rest of the year planned out with 3 –5 Diva Series in the works (and no, I’m not giving it away) maybe two more BPM sets, one T-Dance, The Holiday Edition and finally the Year-End Edition.  Still, that’s quite a bit a work I’ve got ahead of me, though the best thing is to let everyone know what’s coming up, but without actual dates since everything is subject to change.

Halloween is just around the corner; the time of year where all the queens attempt to outdo each other with the most outrageous and fabulous getup our deranged minds can conjure.  To make the holiday even more fun, the ATL is celebrating our very first Pride over the weekend, ensuring a larger than normal turnout.  Think about it, Halloween and Pride all it once, that’s a lot of goodness wrapped up in one weekend.  Even better, Pride returns to Piedmont Park since the drought of 2007-08.  In fact, the city council just authorized all the bars to maintain extended serving hours.  So, if the weather can hold up and sunshine and cooler temps prevail, this should prove to be an outstanding event.  Then again, I’m looking at the weather for today in Google and it shows sunshine, when in fact we are still overcast and 59 degrees.  I guess we’ll just have to think positive.  The sad part is, I won’t be able to attend.  Those of you that follow me on my personal page on Facebook, know that I am currently undergoing physical therapy after my recent surgery.  With my recent increase in dosage being dripped into my spine and setbacks on the therapy side, I don’t think I would even be able to hobble around the park.  It’s a shame, because in the spirit of treats, I had planned to hit the park and few bars in my PF T-shirt and give away a bunch of promo CDs.  It’s something I’ve done several times before and a lot of fun; just not this go around.  I’ll go more into detail tomorrow on my next update in Facebook. 

In the meantime, I’m serving up a seriously HOT circuit adventure for all the boys.  Initially, I was concerned because there just wasn’t that much out at the moment and the Autumn Edition had pretty much sapped out all the new music.  Never fear!  I started scouring Beatport for some cool house tunes that would mix in well with what I already had and came up with a real winner in diversity and depth.   Let’s face it , all tribal beats all the time gets boring and you can expect I’ll be going back to my mixed bag method on these mixes in the future.  I think it just ads more interest and color to the overall set and keeps you (especially me) from getting bored. 

The hot tunes to single out here are Depeche Mode’s “Perfect” the follow up to “Wrong” with Ralphi doing the remix honors and let’s just say this is smoking!  Bingo Players deliver “Devotion” in a HUGE way.  For those that aren’t familiar with the original, it was a #1 club hit by Nomad in 1991.  Bingo Players take the original and beef it up bringing this classic to a whole new generation of house lovers.  Another remake of sorts, is Malente’s “I Like It” which utilizes the famous KC & the Sunshine Band riff from “(That’s the Way) I Like It.  Currently, this song has been sitting in Beatport and Juno’s Top Ten for well over a month.  Maybe not your typical fare, but I assure you once the groove get’s going, it works in a big way. 

Indie darling from the UK, Florence and the Machine, deliver the infectious “You Got the Love” with wonderfully unique vocals while Steve Pitron and Max Sanna re-work it for the dancefloor.  This has been a surefire winner for me and something I’ve enjoyed listening to over and over.  I brought back Ron Perkov’s “Miss You” only because I’m really getting into the Mike Rizzo mix.  This song has an abundance of mixes, and I had used Tony Moran’s take in the Autumn Edition.  Other’s prefer Manny’s take, but I’m generally over him at the moment.  I also added Agne’s massive hit “Release Me” with Razor n’ Guido doing the honors. I have to say it’s almost like they never left us.  God bless the Razor n’ Guido.

Finally, I included Mariah’s “IWKWLI” which for all the mixes it came with, the Nu Addiction club mix is the only one that even comes remotely close to doing it justice.  I’m hoping Sony will pull out the money bag and serve us with a second set of mixes by Tony or Chris (amongst many possibilities) as a good contrast to the Mickey Mouse productions that were delivered.  One can always dream.

I wanted to take a little time to show everybody my current stats on Podbean.  Basically they aggregate all of my traffic including downloads, hits and streaming, not just from their site, but my primary site, iTunes and all of the other places I have made my feed available. 

I know these are kind of hard to read, but if you click on each image they should enlarge for better viewing.  As you can see, these stats are for the last 7 days of the two most recent BPM Editions.  Actually, less than that because v1 went up on Friday and v2 went up on Saturday.  Based on previous experience, these numbers will quadruple by the end of October. 

The stats above reflect my overall traffic across all spectrums for the past thirty days.  As you can see, it’s pretty substantial.  The reason I am bringing this to everyone’s attention is that in my Saturday post, I informed everyone that I had been nominated for “Best Podcast” and “Entertainment Blog” for the 2009 Blogger’s Choice Awards.  I then asked if everyone would please go and vote for me.  Since that time, not one of you has bothered to take the time to vote.  I cannot begin to tell you how disappointing that is.  Considering all the hard work that goes into producing this blog, I can assure you, there isn’t anyone else out there that takes all the extra steps to make each post unique and individual.  From cover art and Cue Sheets to tracklistings embedded into each podcast; I heard your requests and implemented each idea that many of you find useful.

I’m not trying to shame anyone, I just wanted you to see where I’m coming from.  So, all I’m asking is for everyone to take a couple of minutes and vote for this site.  You know you love it, so why not show some appreciation?  It would mean a great deal to me and even more so for Party Favorz to gain more attention.  I’ll be posting reminders at least once a week, since I believe you can vote more than once.  In the meantime, help a brother out and please vote.  Thank you for your prompt attention.

It’s a beautiful day in the ATL, albeit a bit chilly.  My heart goes out to all the good folks participating in the AIDS Walk for Aid Atlanta.  Looking at the weather forecast on my desktop, it appears we are going to finally have a fabulous week with plenty of sunshine and more fall like weather as it warms up into the low 70s later on.  What’s a little bit weird is that the leaves have yet to change.  I think I saw one tree yesterday, but that’s about it.  Usually around mid-September, you wake up one morning and almost all of the trees change colors over night.  Right now, they’re a little bit late to the game; so hopefully soon.  What can I say, I’m a sucker for sunshine, blue skies, pleasant temperatures and fall leaves. 

As I mentioned yesterday, the second half of this edition is geared towards underground house.  I readily admit, this is my favorite kind of house, next to the funkier T-Dance.  Granted, I like it all but great vocals without the annoying voice disguiser, tight beats and roof raising electro burners is where it’s at! 

I start things off a little slow while each song builds on top of the other.  By the time you get half way through, all bets are off and this just burns a whole right through your brain!  Personal favorites are the 80s styled funker “Jus Chip” by Preetesh and Angela Tharmakumar; “Ring Ring Ring” by Kurd Maverick (wait for the drop in the middle which slows down to a funky jazz groove before picking up again); “Dum Da Dum” by Melodie MC and “Musical Freedom” by Candi Stanton.  Who’s that you say?  Yes, the Candi Staton of “Young Hearts Run Free” fame from 1976.  She’s long been heavily involved in gospel and it’s about time she took those influences and re-used them on the floor for a hair-raising experience.  Welcome back Miss Staton, we look forward to hearing more from you.

We also have an updated electro take of the Run DMC classic “My Adidas” which takes you right into the scorching hot “I Believe” by Supafly Inc.  The Vandalism mix of this song is guaranteed to melt your iPod.  Andrea Love (always a personal favorite) returns with “Kiss Me” and Niko De Luca churns out another booty shaking winner with, what else “Shake.” 

Word of warning: This set is not your typical high school dance.  This is serious house music for grown-ups.  Forget about sitting back and relaxing, because folks you’re in for a bumpy if not groovalicious ride!

I’ve been working off and on, on the gay anthems mixes and have struck a deal with Equal Rights America to donate 80% of the proceeds to the cause.  ERA is working towards full equality in every aspect of life for the GLBT community.  This is a cause that’s very dear to me and I believe involves more grassroots efforts to have our voices heard than anything the HRC and their overpaid Joe Solmonese CEO has done <snark>.  Because of the current time frame running up to Halloween, it’s most likely I will go ahead and get those mixes out first, so I can spend more time ensuring absolute quality in the song selection and production of the mixes.  You can probably expect an early November release.

Well, I finally got my groove back and I have to say “it feels freaking fantabulous!”  While there are still issues with iTunes (which I just received another email from them to let me know they haven’t forgotten about me)and now my Facebook Fan Page, which I’ve decided to leave well enough alone, things are going relatively well with me in general.  I’m still peddling away on the ‘under the hood’ issues for the sight, so I figure everything will hopefully fall into place in due time.  I’m actually getting better at this patience thing, just take a deep breath and walk away.  Come back in an hour or so and try again.  Works pretty well.

Normally, I like to mix up the different styles and genres within my BPM mixes, but this time I decided to separate them out.  This first set is for all the mainstream electro-pop folks who like their radio favorites mixed for the dancefloor.  Nothing wrong with that at all.  As you skim down the track list, you may notice a couple of things.  First, Mariah Carey; yes I was critical of her remake of the Foreigner classic “I Want to Know What Love Is”, but I have to admit her vocals are spot on and she hasn’t sounded this good in a long time.  Sadly, Moto Blanco (who I would have tapped for the remix) sped the vocals up losing the actual flavor of the song.  This is a big ballad with some serious undertones that deserve better than the Mickey Mouse rendition they delivered.  That’s not to say most of you won’t like it, I just think something more dramatic is in order; maybe Tony Moran, Chris Cox; I’m just saying.

The next thing you’ll notice is my inclusion of Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.”  I haven’t been particularly nice to Miley on this site, only because I guess I’m way over the whole bubblegum scene.  History has always manufactured huge stars targeting the Teen Beat crowd, so Miley’s success comes as no surprise.  Certainly I’ve had my fair share of favorites over the years (Debbie Gibson comes to mind), so it wouldn’t be fair of me to deny anyone else their right to enjoy it now.  While I’m not ready to join Miley’s fan club, I will admit that this song is sinfully delicious! 

While I generally enjoy all the songs in my mixes for one reason or another, as usual, there are a few diamonds that stand out and stick in my head like gum to the bottom of your shoe.  Cindy Gomez’ “Again and Again” is pure pop bliss, while Priscilla Renea’s “Dollhouse” takes on a familiar theme while making it all her own.  One of the biggest artist of the year, Agnes follows up “Release Me” with “I Need You” which is just as ear-pleasingly catchy.  I’m not sure what the huge appeal to Agnes’ kind of meat and potatoes pop is, but she sure has one hell of a writing team, if she isn’t writing these songs herself.  Taking the familiar piano riff used in “When Love Takes Over” by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland (another HUGE track from earlier this year) this is bound to be BIG. 

After the massive worldwide success of “In My Arms” from 2007, Plumb returns with a new album and single “Hang On” already destined for dancefloor glory.  Packed with fantastic mixes by Dave Aude and Digital Dog, it’s the Pete Hammond mix that blows my socks off.  If you weren’t fortunate enough to have lived through the second half of the 80s, Pete Hammond (who’s been making the rounds on the circuit lately) was part of Stock, Aitken and Waterman or better known as SAW.  They churned out dozens of hits for Bananarama, Dead or Alive, Rick Astley and even Donna Summer amongst many others.  Their signature sound could be heard not just on dancefloors but at Top 40 radio throughout world.  I’m happy to say that Pete, who has already been featured on previous BPM Editions, is back and quite possibly even better than before.  He’s taken the classic SAW sound and updated it for the today’s dancefloors’.  Despite my obvious bias, it’s refreshing to hear something dropped in between the usual Bimbo Jones, Dave Aude twinpacks of dance these days.  That’s not saying anything is wrong with these guys, it’s just nice to hear something that is familiar to me and fresh and new to everyone else.  One listen, and you’ll be digging it, I promise.

Another big winner for me is Morgan Page’s latest “Fight For You.”  The Beltek mix is definitely tight, but if you’re looking for something with a little more bite, check out DJ Dan’s peak hour romp.

Well, things don’t always workout as planned, and the past month has certainly been a testimony to that fact.  I’m not even going to bore you guys with the details, other than to say that I’m very behind schedule.  As it currently stands, the “March 4 Equality” mixes will be seriously delayed, despite the historic event taking place this weekend in D.C.  I’ll probably just switch the title to something else, I don’t know yet.  Currently, I am working on the next BPM Edition.  Frankly, this has been a struggle to put together.  Since the operation, my hearing is shot, which has been a major factor in my trying to get work done.  Granted, it came back for two days, but I was so fucking miserable I couldn’t bring myself to work on anything.  Now that I’m feeling better, it’s gone again and to add insult to injury, my freaking internet connection is for shit.  My uploads are averaging about 5kbps and downloads about 1mbps.  If you’re wondering, I have an 18mbps speed via AT&T and the best they can offer is a different adaptor for which I have to wait another two days for.  Considering this is now Friday 1:04 am, I don’t expect that until Tuesday.  Best believe I’ll be on the phone with them again tomorrow as this is unacceptable. 

Okay, so I said I wouldn’t bore you with the details, but you got the abridged addition, which at least lays out some of the obstacles I’m dealing with.  So, let’s go over what you can hopefully expect from me this month: As stated, I’m planning on the next installment of the BPM Edition which will have to be cut down to a two mix set, leaving out some fabulous tunes on the cutting room floor; a six set gay anthem series, which I was going to charge for due to the fact that it is a special series, but now have decided to give it all away for free (lucky you), and the most obvious will be my 2009 Halloween Edition towards the end of the month.  All of this is tentative, so don’t hold me to it.  Hey, I’m just saying. 

Obviously, I’ve got a lot on my plate at the moment and am trying to work everything out to the best of my ability.  As for iTunes, I am currently working with someone in their forum to get the problem rectified, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.  So please, don’t hound me on that, it just works my nerves to no end.  Whoever said life ain’t easy, knew exactly what they were talking about.

As for the missing download button at the bottom of the post; it will appear once I’m actually able to upload this set.  I’ll send out a special message on my Fan Page once it’s available and everyone else will just have to keep checking back.  That’s all for this wasted evening.  I hope everyone has a much better weekend than I’ve had for the past month.  If you’re heading out to D.C. for the rally this weekend, do me a favor and give a big ole middle finger to Uncle Sam for me.  I’ll be back soon enough.

2003 was a difficult year for me.  I was putting in 60+ hours a week at work and another 2 hours to and from work.  Usually, I would take that time on the road to preview my mixes and then go back and make any necessary changes prior to the final mixdown.  It was a system I had in place that worked flawlessly for several years until the nausea began to set in.  By that, I mean many of the songs that gained in popularity were literally making me sick.  As I had mentioned in my 2002 post, the music was getting deeper and darker to the point one could justify Annie Lennox’s statement that “you had to be on really good drugs to appreciate the mixes of her work.”  In other words, she didn’t get it and frankly I was starting to lose faith as well. 

At this point, the 2002 kings of the progressive movement Stephane and Creamer K had relinquished their thrown to the likes of Gabriel and Dresden and Scumfrog.  These guys were churning out the hits as only they knew how to do it and grabbing the top spots in just about everyone’s set list.  How you viewed this was entirely up to your own mindset.  However, even the comments on the Perfect Beat review sections were taking a decidedly negative view of the current crop of productions.  In short, people were getting bored or older and just didn’t get it.  That’s not to say there weren’t some stellar moments in 2003.  In fact, three of my all time favorite club tunes are from this year.  The Bill Hamel mix of Seal’s “Get Together” is nothing short of freaking brilliant!  Equally, Hex Hector’s remix of Sarah Brightman’s “Harem” and Scumfrog’s remix of “At the End” by Iio were completely mesmerizing. 

Ultimately, I think the music itself was trending to what was going on in the clubs and circuit parties throughout the country.  AIDS was the celeb cause du jur for many organizations and was heavily criticized for the outlandish benefits that were thrown to raise money for various worthwhile organizations, only to find they were operating in the negative.  The same can be said for the big “circuit events” which operated under the auspice of raising money for local AIDS charities.  Not only did many if not most operate at a loss, but they were nothing more than an excuse to have a party and did little if anything to promote awareness and safer sex practices.  It’s a shame, but this went on through 2004 despite the increasing negative press attention that was being given to these events.  Steeped in work, I dropped completely out of the scene by the end of the following year before allowing myself to be dragged back, once I sensed a new direction on the horizon. 

For what it’s worth, these five mixes represent a time capsule of a specific time in the dance industry.  It was a time when the dark underpinnings of house music were worn with pride on the sleeves of it’s biggest promoters.  For better or worse, this is nothing more than a spec of time in an industry that keeps getting bigger everyday.  In short, it’s history and deserves it’s place in the annals of club music. 

Standouts on this first set include the obvious “At the End” by Iio and Kristine W’s “Fly Again”  a song about overcoming obstacles and empowering oneself after her very public battle with Leukemia.  Worth mentioning is Celine Dion’s remake of “I Drove All Night” where Hex Hector incinerates the dancefloor with his production and (Yoko) Ono’s first foray into the club scene with “Walking on Thin Ice” which would be the first in a long line of #1 club hits for this unlikely diva; Danny Tenaglia and Pet Shop Boys really worked this one out.

Of all five mixes, this was the hardest to put together and I had to use some trickery to get it to work.  Perfect? Probably not, but damn near close.  The next four were generally effortless and should flow with more ease and consistency.  For those of you who came out or attended your first circuit party in 2003, this one’s for you.  Cherish it now, because you won’t find anything as comprehensive as this anywhere else.  Enjoy!

Uh, WOW!  always nice to know that something I did made someone else happy, especially one of my favorite DJ/Producers <tear>

I had also been working on the next BPM I had mentioned in a previous post for later in September and decided to go ahead and put it out.  Trimming out the fat, I think everyone will find this very accessible, danceable and downright fabulous!  Frankly, I don’t see myself putting out anymore podcasts for a while.  That’s not to say I’m going anywhere, I just don’t know what the next several weeks will hold for me and how busy I’m going to be with therapy.  I had mentioned that my surgery is tomorrow, when in fact it’s on Wednesday.  So, I’ve decided to give up smoking (or at least try).  Since I don’t have any money at the moment, that might make it easier to do.  I figure Rick can tolerate any bitchiness for at least 24 hours until he deposits my happy ass at the hospital 6am Wednesday morning; then they can deal with me for the next 48 hours LOL!  I’ll try to be nice, but I wouldn’t be surprised if my head starts spinning around and I start speaking in tongues and spewing out green pea soup at the doctor : )  Then when I get out, I should be on some serious pain killers, which should allow me to sleep the rest of my withdrawals off.  I got it all figured out.

Anywho, that makes you guys the early beneficiaries of my next set.  Frankly, I’ve listened to it three times already and it R-O-C-K-S!!!  There’s a good mixture of electro-pop, progressive and funky house with a trance tune thrown in for good measure.  Don’t worry, I didn’t get bogged down into any of the repetitive underground house that I sometimes like to throw in.  Just think, listenable, danceable and definitely partyable <—made up word, but you get the point.

During my absence, don’t forget about our Guest DJ list down the side of the blog.  I know for a fact that TSO Presents has two brand spanking new soulful house sets, DJ Wunten just posted a new set today and FND has something coming out this week.  Plus, if you head on over to my Group Page, you’ll see additional posts by a variety of other DJs doing their thing!  Don’t forget, a good way for others to get some exposure is to sign up and post your own sets and events.  It cost you nothing and only makes you and your work more visible to others.  Enough said.

I want to apologize about the iTunes issue.  It turns out, that IS my fault and I take full responsibility for it.  In the meantime, there is a workaround to subscribe via iTunes, even though I’m not currently listed.  This is what you do:  Open iTunes and click on ‘advanced‘ located next to ‘help’ in the top toolbar. You will get a drop down menu. There, select ’subscribe to podcast’ and copy and past this url into the empty box http://partyfavorz.podbean.com/feed ~ Party Favorz will show up. Just double click on that and all of my mixes will show up.  It will also ask you if you want to subscribe, just say yes and you’re all done.

T.G.I.T.!!!  It’s Thursday, and for many of you the end to your work week.  As we gear up for the extended holiday break, I wanted to ensure that you had all of your party favorz prior to hitting the road for your final destination to whatever event you’re attending.  In keeping with the first two mixes, I’m serving up some serious circuit havoc.  While there are several notable songs in this set, I wanted to take a moment and point out two of them.  First, our very own Mikey Cee from down under turns in what I guess is his very first mix with Larry T & Princess Superstar’s “Licky.”  Frankly, I received this on promo several months ago and took a pass on it, only because I wasn’t feeling the electro mixes that accompanied it.  I have to say that Mikey has hit a homerun his first time out.  Basically, he’s turned this “where’s the hook” mess into a ball of thumping fun suitable for any dancefloor.  In fact, I bumped Beyonce for his mix, so that should say a lot.  Make sure you go over to his Facebook fan page and give him a pat on the back for a job well done.  Hopefully, this is a sign of bigger things for to come.  The other song I wanted to point out is the brand spanking new Ron Perkov tune “Miss You.”  Personally, I think he and Tony have really turned this one out.  In fact, the entire release is just amazing!  Not only do you get the ultra hot Moran and Rigg remix, but remixes by Manny Lehman, Mike Rizzo, Twisted Dee and DeMarko!  With a line up like that, it’s hard to miss.  Currently “Miss You” is available exclusively through Masterbeat.

I found out a couple of hours ago that my iTunes page had been taken down for no particular reason.  I tested the feed via iTunes and it is a valid feed, so I’m pretty miffed as to why this happened.  I’ve since gone back and resubmitted my podcast to be added back into the iTunes store, which should take about 24 hours for approval.  In the meantime, you can still download the mix via iTunes by going into the store and selecting “advanced” at the top next to the “help” button.  Then select “subscribe to podcast” and then copy and paste http://partyfavorz.podbean.com/feed into the empty field and submit it.  It will ask you if you want to subscribe and just select “yes” and it should automatically start downloading the latest podcast.  You should be able to see all of my podcasts and can select which specific ones you want to download.  I’m sorry for the mix-up, but truth be told this has nothing to do with anything that I’ve done.  I’ve posted a question in their forum and am hoping to get a response back so this doesn’t happen again.  I’ll be sure to let everyone know when it gets re-added to the iTunes store in hopes that you guys will go back and add some sweet comments again, as I’m certain all that is now lost.

Anywho, I decided to stay up past my bedtime and go ahead and post the second half of my latest T-Dance Edition.  Whereas the first mix was a hodgepodge of different house styles, this one is pretty much for the purest amongst you.  Soulful, funky with a little mainstream fun is pretty much what you can expect in this set.

Heating things up, I’m finally getting volume 2 of the Autumn Edition out.  I’ve been pretty much busy all day starting with my pre-op stuff and then running around the ATL like a chicken with its…well, you get the point.  I’m now back and my email box has been flooded with Facebook friend requests and offers for interviews and reviews of new artist materials, plus one promotion for aspiring DJs out there, I think you’ll find very interesting.  More on that stuff, say Wednesday when I take a break from posting my stuff.  Anywho, not much to say about this mix other than to expect more hard hitting beats with the latest sounds from the circuit.  I just got finished previewing volume 3 of this edition, and it certifiably ROCKS!  All I have to say is you guys better show me some love, because I have busted my nuts on these three mixes : )

I want to apologize for freaking any of you out about the surgery. I’d swear I had brought this up a couple of months ago.  Regardless, this is a good thing, not bad.  I’m not dying, suffering or otherwise.  What this is for me is a game changer in my life.  I am fortunate to have met a physician who is going to have it done for me pro bono, which is the reason school was nixed this semester.  Insurance won’t cover the procedure and when an opportunity like this slaps you in the face, you stand up and pay attention.  So, all is well and no need for concern.

As promised, I’m sending up my latest funky/soulful house set sprinkled with a hefty does of nudisco.  As you can see, I brought lollipop girl out of retirement and played dress-up Barbie by changing out her tube top and shorts.  After all, I couldn’t have her smelling like a skank…LOL!  I was jamming to this last night and am all about the music in this mix.  Frankly, I think this is a nice counter to the circuit driven Autumn Edition that I’ll be juxtaposing it with throughout the week.  Take notice of the Freemasons’ 2009 mix of “Love On My Mind”.  Originally released in 2005, this worldwide smash gets a makeover and lends more to the original #1 disco classic “This Time Baby” from which it sampled.  Unfortunately, Freemasons dropped that part in at the end of the song, making it more of a cock tease of what’s possibly to come between now and next summer.  So, I edited it down to the point for those familiar with the original, which will certainly give you a hard- on for more.  For now, Eddie X and Niki Haris have done a remake which will show up on my next Autumn Edition, even though it doesn’t quite live up to the original, it’s on it’s way to becoming a huge hit.

Before I get into this latest set, I’ve got some news and other information I want to share with everyone.  First, I finally got my surgery scheduled and will be going under the knife on September 9th.  It should be fairly simple and only require an overnight stay (barring any complications or staph infections—>fingers crossed).  Once home, I’m supposed to recoup for about a week before beginning PT.  I’ve also hooked up with an awesome personal trainer, so I’ll be doing double duty during that time.  Because this will be a huge update over the next several days, don’t expect anything for a couple of weeks after Labor Day.  When I come back, I’ll try to get out the much delayed Chrome 2003 Edition. 

In other news, I’ve decided that I will no longer be doing these extensive Guest DJ updates on the site.  For the most part, everyone that has been featured on the site is already linked back with their big shiny logo on the right-hand sidebar.  If you like what they’re doing, then please sign up for their updates.  In addition, everyone is welcome to post their new mixes on my fan page and the newly created group page with tracklisting and/or links back to your own website.  Seriously, I don’t mind. However, doing these updates takes a lot of time, so I’m providing these other avenues for you to promote yourself.  Now, for those that have never been featured, I will make at least one post featuring you and your work and then link back to you going forward.  The only thing I ask is that everyone that is linked on my site or requests to be featured and linked, to please reciprocate.  I’ll be checking in a few weeks for the reciprocation and if I don’t find it, I’ll just delete your link from the side.  I only bring this up, because I know several of you have never linked back to me, despite requesting to be continually promoted on this site.  I’m a nice guy and will bend over backwards for others, but I also expect the same generosity in return.  Enough said.

I’ve got a total of five sets up and ready to go.  Three of them are the Autumn Edition and the other two are the latest T-Dance.  Tomorrow, I’ll post the first of the T-Dance and then maybe Monday the next Autumn and so forth and will have everything out before the extended Labor Day holiday weekend.  This current edition is circuit, through and through.  Expect a lot of big beats in the tribal and progressive arena, including divas with big voices, instrumentals and the occasional hot male vocals. All three of these mixes have been optimized and remastered for hi-end sound with deep bass; so you should take caution when listening through your earbuds. 

It looks like the rain that we’ve had all day has finally subsided and the ATL is in for some more nice autumn-like weather this weekend.  As we all gear up for the upcoming holiday next week, try not to drain yourself too much this weekend; unless you’re John Longo who has more battery life than the Energizer Bunny [that boy never stops].  Nevertheless, I want everyone to have a fabulous weekend and I’ll be back tomorrow with the first of the T-Dance v4 editions.

Before I get into the mix, I want to let all the iTunes users know that the feed is currently down.  I was in the process of switching everything over to Pod-O-matic when it dawned on me just how long it would take to move everything over.  Ultimately, I came to the realization that this would be a logistical nightmare and decided to stay put at Podbean.  However, I jumped the gun and switched over the feed url and that screwed everything up.  I’ve sent in a request to iTunes to have it switched back; hopefully everything will be working this next week.  In the meantime, there are no shortage of places to download the mixes.  Obviously, you can get it here on my site http://www.partyfavorz.net, on my Facebook fan page or even on my Podbean page.  I apologize for the inconvenience, but it is what it is and unfortunately it is what it shouldn’t be. 

Keeping up with the theme of the first mix, I’ve got a little bit of everything in this mix.  Mica Paris starts things out with the smoking hot house mix of The Hardest Part, a song I love more and more each time I hear it.  This is followed by my hands down favorite song of the moment, Show Me by Carolina Liar.  Previously, I had used the more polished big production of Seamus Haji which was dead on, however this time I went with the more stripped down version by Morgan Page which is equally as stellar.  I’m not sure if this group is a Christian rock band or if that’s just the way the song plays out, but this emotionally charged song is a surefire winner not only for the dancefloors but at top 40 radio as well.

Another song I had been using earlier in the summer was Show Me the Way by White Shoes.  The original is just pure electro-pop bliss while Chriss Ortega does an outstanding job of beefing it up, while retaining all the elements that make this such a perfect pop song. 

Riding high on the success of Love Story, Nadia Ali is back with Fine Print which is destined to become her second solo #1.  If you like the Alex Sayz mix included here, wait til you hear the Serge Devant take which will be featured in my upcoming Autumn Edition next week.  Speaking of which, Serge Devant’s freaking HOT tune Addicted with newcomer Hadley has been torching dance floors since spring.  Taken from his album The Wanderer, this is a definite winner hands down.  Taking it further, I’d add Serge to my producer/DJ list of people to watch out for.  This guy is on fire!

As I slowly slide out of progressive mode, the mix moves into a more calming but funkier house-d up direction with the likes of Hold On by Backens, Oliver & Stefan Gruenwald, Purple Haze by the Bassmonkeys and the 1980 Geraldine Hunt disco classic remake of Can’t Fake the Feeling by house legend Todd Terry.  What’s surely going to throw everyone for a loop will be Get Down Tonight by Supafly Inc.  If you’re guessing this is a remake of the KC & the Sunshine Band classic, you’d be right.  Taking the chorus from the original and layering it over the familiar groove, pumped up to the max for today’s floors, you can’t help but get all giddy while shake, shake shaking your booty!

Finally, I move into a more commercial electro-pop direction with the latest from the 80s disco diva extraordinaire Carol Hahn (Take Me and Dance) and the rocking Chillin by Wale with Lady GaGa (also check out the uber-cool Wideboys mix of this song) and then we depart with Kelly Clarkson’s latest Already Gone.

As you can probably see, this is not the 2003 Chrome Edition I had previously promised.  My BPM folder was filling up fast and I decided I might as well get this knocked out before I get backed up.  I’m anticipating a mid-September release for the next Chrome Edition. 

Once again, I did not have enough material to comprise another T-Dance mix, so I went ahead and incorporated several of the funkier numbers in with this mix.  Frankly, I think this may very well be the way this series moves in the future.  Since discontinuing the System Edition, I’ve been incorporating several of those songs into this series and now some of the funkier songs usually reserved for the T-Dance mixes coupled with the electro-pop stuff that was so prevalent in the past.  In all honesty, I think this just makes more sense.  If I had to call this and it’s accompanying mix anything, I would call it “house music for grown-ups that still enjoy pop tarts”…LOL!  If anything, it provides the listener with an eclectic musical experience without getting too monotonous.

Every song over the course of these two mixes was specifically picked because they moved me one way or another.  I can honestly say, no filler here, not even to help me transition out of a song to get on with the mix. 

As usual there are standouts that most people are going to gravitate towards, so let me help you out.  Starting with the return of Moony best known for her early millennium #1 hits Dove (I’ll Be Leaving You) and Point of View with DJ Boulevard and the underground classic He’s All I Want with Angelmoon, she delivers another dark slice of heaven with I Don’t Know Why.  While the Jerome Ism-ae mix, which appeared on BPM v5 is darker and more progressive befitting the actual meaning of the song, Viale & DJ Ross take it in a sunnier direction and smother it with a killer piano hook that just makes you feel good no matter the lyrical content.  Another killer is newcomer Ameerah’s The Sound of Missing You.  Though this song appeared in an earlier BPM edition (I think the spring), it’s just now getting added to the Promo Only set for September.  With it’s pulsating synths that are heavily influenced by the Don Henley classic The Boys of Summer, I expect this will be in heavy rotation at radio if it already isn’t.  

Then there are the electro-pop darlings like Pixie Lott and Mini Viva already receiving a lot of buzz from sites like Arjan Writes, Electroqueer and Popjustice who deliver perfectly delectable slices of retro heaven on Boys and Girls and the outstanding Left My Heart in Tokyo.  In particular, Pete Hammond who apparently has come out of retirement made two solid mixes for Mini Viva; one more contemporary for today’s dancefloors and another 80s throwback very similar to his work with SAW (Stock, Aiken & Waterman) which is just as much fun as the latter. 

The Bassmonkeys return with In the Moment featuring the awesome dancefloor veteran and diva extraordinaire Abigail Bailey.  Currently sitting at the top of XpressBeats’ Most Wanted Chart, this is a surefire funky house pleaser.

After last year’s successful Ride My Tempo proving she’s not just a one hit wonder, Ida Corr returns with I Want You.  No doubt the Funkerman mix will have you guys shaking your asses through the fall.  Another big one to watch out for is 5th place Eurovision contestant Jade Ewen.  Her first single My Man is blowing up on both sides of the aisle and well on it’s way to a club floor near you. 

Finally, we have the return of the always fabulous Vanessa Williams, who just put out her first full length studio album in four years.  Jam packed with amazing remixes including Soul Seekerz and Ralphi Rosario, I expect The Real Thing to do very well in the clubs.  For now, I’m delivering the breezy samba take by the Seekerz which further prove their own prowess and why I’m a huge fan of theirs.   Maybe it’s time for me to add them to the Catching Up With series, we’ll see.

I can honestly say that things are moving along quite nicely.  Thanks to those of you who provided feedback, I have now completed the new re-design of the Party Favorz blog.  You’ll notice I took everyone’s advice into consideration and changed the font and re-added color without it being to distracting from the actual posts.  Honestly, I’m already seeing a lot of potential for tinkering during various holidays, so I think this will work out very well. 

I’ll be spending the weekend getting as much as possible moved over to my new Pod-o-matic account.  While nothing is guaranteed, I’m hoping that this switch will work out well.  They seem to have a more thriving community of house music lovers which should bring even more attention to my work.  I know, everyone would prefer to keeps this their own little secret, but at the end of the day it’s about growing and expanding my audience.  It is possible that there may be some delay and/or lag time between my next post and iTunes, because the feed will need to be re-directed and I don’t know how long that will take after I contact iTunes about the switch.  So a little patience on the part of the iTunes folks would be greatly appreciated.  After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

In the meantime, all current podcasts will remain active through the end of August.  After that, more than 2/3 of them will no longer be available.  So if you are new to the site and are just now exploring, I highly recommend you grab what you want now because I cannot guarantee their availability after this month. 

In the interim, I will also be working and finalizing the next Chrome Edition for release next week and hopefully a BPM after that coupled with the Fall Edition by the end of the month.  I finally had my appointment with the surgeon yesterday and am currently waiting for his office to contact me for a day and time to have my operation.  They said they would try to get me in by the end of the month, so everything mentioned above IS tentative.  Regardless, I’ll do my best to keep the flow going.  Even with a few hiccups here and there, if everything goes as planned, I expect to be taking everything to the next level early in 2010. 

I also want to give a shout out to our good friend Tom Pham who is currently in the process of moving from New York to San Jose, California.  Tom, I wish you a safe trip and I hope everything works out for you in Cali.  That’s about all the news I have for today.  I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.  I’ll be back sometime next week with the Chrome Edition 2003.

Possibly the one person who is compared more often than not to Whitney Houston is Mariah Carey.  Breaking onto the scene in the early nineties, her debut album spawned four #1 hits and there was no stopping her after that.  Well, there was that little hiccup after leaving Sony/Columbia for Virgin for a very lucrative financial deal.  Hey, you can’t be perfect all the time and in the end, they paid out her contract and let her go.  As the Emancipation of Mimi later proved, it was their loss. 

Much has been made about Mariah re-recording her vocals only for David Morales, her preferred remixer.  No doubt he’s has been an important part of transferring her big voice to the dancefloors across the world.  After going back and listening to a lot of these mixes, I can pretty much bet you she also re-recorded the vocals for the boys of C+C Music Factory as well as Junior Vasquez.  All you have to do is go back and listen to the full length originals of Anytime You Need a Friend or Heartbreaker which were more characteristic of David Morales mixes with the big gospel choirs, the prolonged mid-sections that sound like you’ve just been worked over for several hours on Sunday at your local black Baptist church.  It’s not likely these were outtakes from the original recording sessions and once you get Mariah in front of that gospel choir, the girl just tears it up!

While I have personally been less than impressed with her most recent work starting with last years E=MC² where many of the songs sound like they should be sung by some 21 year old pop tart as opposed to a true diva with the vocal ability bestowed on her by the gods.  If she thinks she needs to keep up with the kiddies, she doesn’t.  That was proven by last years Leona Lewis who’s debut album was a worldwide smash and was much more sophisticated and mature in it’s overall tone.  In fact, she stands to possibly dethrone the current reigning queen if she’s not careful.  Girlfriend, watch your back.

Regardless, the songs contained on this 2+ hours of non-stop house music are a true testament to Mariah’s incredible abilities.  It’s for this reason that Party Favorz honors Miss Carey with her induction into the Diva Hall of Fame.  Ladies and gentlemen…Mariah Carey!

The 5th edition of the BPM series consisting of four podcasts will be made available all at once later this afternoon.  This has been a long and grueling summer and frankly I need a break.  Since I don’t have it in me to create my usual post, I’ve decided to only make this available to the Party Favorz Fan Page members.  So if you haven’t joined me yet on Facebook (or Podbean for that matter) and really want this latest edition, than I suggest you get on over there and join now.  I’ve included the tracklisting for each set below, so you have a pretty good idea what’s contained in each podcast.  I plan on taking most of August off, though I may pop in later in the month with the 2003 Chrome Edition or maybe just the Mariah Diva Series I had previously promised.  I can’t say for sure.  I’m starting to have some normalcy around the house as Rick’s condition has improved markedly.  A couple more weeks of dialysis and he should be back at work, right around the time I have my operation.  I hope everyone has enjoyed the summer mixes I’ve been putting out and you can expect more going into the fall, but with a more restrained release schedule.  I fully anticipate having the Fall Edition out sometime around Labor Day.  Atlanta has brought back Pearl Days at Six Flags (Think of it like Gay Days at Disney) which is on September 11th – 13th and should be a lot of fun, assuming I’ll be up and about at that time.  So make the best of the remaining weeks of summer and I’ll soon be back in the saddle whipping it out!

First, I just want to thank everyone that expressed their support over Rick’s situation publicly and privately.  You’re concern meant a great deal to me.  During the time that Rick was away, I went on an obsessive compulsive cleaning binge.  All I can say is that our place sparkles from top to bottom…LOL.  I also went back and took a look at this mix and decided to create several mixshow edits of the songs.  Let’s face it, anyone who already has most if not all of these mixes, knows just how ridiculously long many of them are.  Often the big name DJs would go off in some direction that had little or nothing to do with the song.  I suppose it was a way to showcase their skills.  Personally, I think it was an ego trip.  That’s not to say that these mixes are not brilliant, because they are.  My goal was to go back and provide more cohesiveness to the listener.  As far as I’m concerned, if you forget what song your listening to about half way through because it jets off to some alternate universe, then it’s ripe for re-editing.  Probably the most difficult of these songs is Jonathan Peters’ productions.  They weren’t only excessive, but used a different timing to the beats making it a challenge for anyone attempting to give his mixes a good flow.  For the most part, I did the best I could and I think the end result is fantastic, if not stellar.

Given the controversy that has surrounded Whitney over the past years, I’m glad to see she’s back, looking and sounding great (despite what some of the critics might be saying about her vocals, which is typical for a bunch of talentless hacks who think Miley Cyrus is the second coming).  Let’s face it, she can still sing rings around anyone in the top 40 at any given moment, including Mariah.  I understand no one was happy with “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” as the possible first single and rightfully so.  It’s a typical Diane Warren schlock-fest that wouldn’t be out of place as the next American Idol’s first single.  What’s good about that kind of song is that it usually lends itself to great remixes.  IDKMOS is very diva, very over the top and represents the syrupy melodramatic sentiment that every budding drag queen wants to showcase their best Whitney impersonation with.  Hopefully, we’ll be seeing some official remixes (Hex, I can see your name all over this) prior to the release of the album in September.

Ultimately, Whitney’s induction into the Diva Series Hall of Fame serves as a reminder as to why we fell in love with her in the first place.  Her beauty, her voice, her class and her fierceness…it’s all here.  Welcome back Whitney!

Life certainly changes at a whims notice.  In the spring, I had announced my intent to go back to school.  I had applied, got accepted, shelled out $580 to UT to get my transcripts released and transferred, took blood tests to ensure I had all of my childhood immunity vaccinations, submitted my application for financial aid which was approved and finally met with a counselor to cover the courses I was going to need and also found out everything transferred with a 3.47 GPA.  As it turns out, it looks like I will be having an operation in August which will require some extensive rehab afterwards.  Consequently, school is off the table at least until spring.  So what does that have to do with this site you might ask?  That just means you have me in your full service at least until the end of the year.  Experience has taught me that no matter how much you prepare and/or set your course, obstacles (sometimes good, other times bad) get in your way.  At this point, everything is tentative and I fully expect to keep on keeping on through the end of December.  Frankly, this has been a whirlwind of a year.  It started off with the failure of not one, but two 1TB external hard drives and my primary hard drive on my computer causing me to lose a ton of my music, photos, artwork and documents that hadn’t been backed up to DVD yet.  Rick’s mom passed away a couple of months ago and that put a strain on our budget to fly him back to Texas.  He hasn’t been the same since getting back and I’m hoping that will change sooner rather than later.  After all, I rely on him a great deal and I don’t enjoy seeming him so down.  Nevertheless, we keep plugging away in hopes to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Personally, I’d prefer the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but I’ll take what I can get…LOL!

I’ve decided to take this next week off; well sort of anyway.  I’ll be opening up the site to my guest DJs to promote their own work and I even have new comer (for here) Frank Wild from San Francisco on board with us as well.  While I can’t promote everyone’s work all the time, muchless listen to all the mixes that are submitted to me, if you’re interested, feel free to send me an email (located in the upper left hand corner of my site under the “about me” section) along with your info, website and any cover art and/or logo and pics plus track listing you might want to use to in the post.  The other thing I’ll be working on is my first radio themed podcast where I’ll preview some of my favorite songs of the moment.  No, this is not going to be a countdown, rather a way for me to share with people songs I think they should consider along with up and coming releases that are not yet available for purchase.  This week, I’ve had the good fortune to preview two new songs by DJ Bill Bennett (yes, he did send them along after all) which will drop on the 27th.  I’m kind of feeling my way around this and hope that people will find it useful.  For now, I’ll try to keep it down to 30 minutes or so and will see what the response is before I take the full plunge.  If there are any other DJs, producers or artists that have something new coming out (keep it in the realm of dance music please) feel free to forward it along with release dates, bio info, production credits and any available artwork for consideration for future shows.

Alright, enough boring you guys to tears.  Here’s the third and final set of the Summer Edition.  You’ll notice that the first half is your usual fair (in a good way of course) before turning decidedly progressive for the second half.  Between the original Party Favorz mixes and the BPM editions, I’ve been trying to make up for the now defunct System Edition with songs that I feel mesh nicely within these sets.  I’m a big believer in diversity and by mixing it up, it keeps these mixes from becoming stale and redundant.

One last thing, with the onslaught of really great music being released late this summer, it does appear you guys will be treated to my Fall Edition by Labor Day (September 1st for those that live outside of the U.S.).  It’s unusual for so much highly anticipated music to be released this early in the season, but I think you can thank Whitney Houston for that.  Right now I’m expecting new stuff from Madonna, Mariah, Shakira not to mention Ralphi Rosario, Ron Perkov and a bevy of other artists.  So keep your ears wide open because even more excitement is on the way.
