Party Favorz is back with Volume 3 of our BackSpin series, bringing you Electro House classics along with a mix of Millennial dance club hits from 2005-2006.
I hadn’t realized just how dominant the Rock Dance influence was during this time, but looking back, it was everywhere. Many tracks from that era didn’t make it into these two volumes, but one that certainly stands out (next to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Been Gone” on Volume 2) is the Jacques Lu Cont Thin White Duke remix of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. This song was massive, and you practically couldn’t escape it.
This period also marked the rise of another French DJ besides David Guetta: Bob Sinclar. Though he’d been honing his craft since the late '80s, it wasn’t until this era that he seemingly exploded onto the scene with hits like “Love Generation,” “World, Hold On (Children of the Sun),” and “Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now).” His meteoric popularity even led to him headlining one of Hugh Hefner’s parties at the Playboy Mansion. The event was later released as a two-volume set of House and Disco, aimed at the jet-set crowd.
David Guetta, of course, is also in the mix here with some of his early work, including Juliet’s “Avalon” and the huge “Love Don’t Let Me Go.” As promised, we replaced the rock version of Roger Sanchez’s “Turn On the Music” with the Axwell Electro House remix, which was the go-to version at the time.
Paul Oakenfold (another 90s mainstay) was enjoying renewed success during this era, hitting #1 with “Faster Kill Pussycat,” featuring the incredible vocals of Brittany Murphy (may she rest in peace). For those wondering where this year’s earlier hit “Perfect (Exceeder)” originated — it’s straight from this time period, and we’ve included the Martijn Ten Velden remix, which stays true to the original but is more DJ-friendly.
We also have to give major props to Peter Rauhofer (may he rest in peace) for his prolific output during this time. His remixes, which blended Progressive and Electro House, had wide appeal across dance floors. We’ve highlighted his stellar work on “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, “Killer” by Seal, and “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado — all of which hit #1 on the Dance Club charts. While we wanted to include his remix of the Vanity 6/Prince-penned “Nasty Girl” by Inaya Day, we decided it was a bit too much from one producer.
Two DJ duos that went on to achieve massive success are Moto Blanco, represented here with Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” (originally credited as Bobby Blanco), and Freemasons, who shine on Beyoncé’s “Deja Vu” and Faith Evans’ sassy “Mesmerized” — a personal favorite.
We couldn’t overlook Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch.” Though technically a Hard Dance track, it was a global phenomenon. Cascada (comprised of Natalie Horler, DJ Manian, and DJ Yanou) broke through with this song, which sat slightly outside the prevailing dance trends of the time but wasn’t entirely unprecedented. Earlier in the millennium, DJ Yanou scored a massive hit with a remake of Bryan Adams' “Heaven,” and DHT had similar success with their cover of Roxette’s “Listen To Your Heart.” Despite the 142 BPM of “Everytime We Touch,” we managed to tie it all together with Madonna’s “Sorry” from her Confessions album, closing out the set on a high note.
Our goal is to wrap up the remaining years of the early millennium (2007-2009) by November, so we can give Millennials the dance floor representation they deserve. I realize not everything from this period was Electro House, and if you want to explore the broader landscape of early millennium dance music, check out our Millennial Dance Classics section — it has something for everyone. For those only seeking the big club hits, we also have a collection of the Top Dance Songs of the Year from 2000 to 2009. We’ve compiled everything into one place, but you’ll still need to dig a bit to find your favorite jams.
That’s all for this weekend. Next week, we’ll be back with the long-overdue Fall Edition for the circuit boys. Until next time… ENJOY!

At long last, Party Favorz is back with our latest BackSpin, featuring Electro House classics and other dance hits from the early millennium. This set specifically focuses on 2005-2006.
Electro House had already been bubbling up from the underground, but by 2005, we saw the rise of future DJs who would later become household names. People like David Guetta, Axwell, Kaskade, Fedde Le Grande, and Dave Aude, to name a few. This period also brought me back into the scene after having dropped out because the music from 2002-2004 had become too druggy, dark, and frankly, depressing. I just wasn't feeling what Stephane K & Creamer were putting out at the time. It wasn’t until Rick was out of town, and I went to a gay club in Atlanta with my bestie, LeAnn, that I realized the music was shifting. Hearing the Freemasons mix of "Lovin' You More" and "Mesmerized" lit a spark in me, and I knew the landscape was changing—bringing back my excitement for the scene.
By this time, the big room stylings of Thunderpuss (Barry Harris and Chris Cox) had come to an end. However, Chris Cox carried on with their big tribal sound, while Victor Calderone, Hex Hector, Tony Moran, and Ralphi Rosario continued topping the Dance Club charts. Peter Rauhofer ventured into darker, progressive sounds—sometimes hitting the mark, other times not—but he was still in high demand, commanding high prices for his shows. If you're craving those memorable hits, Party Favorz has you covered. Check out our Top Dance Songs of 2000-2009 and Top Dance Songs of 1996-1999 sections, where you'll find the biggest chart-toppers in the U.S. For those more into the circuit anthems from this era, head over to our Classic Circuit Anthems section, where a 4-volume set awaits to blow you away.
Over the next several years, the production styles of these early 2000s pioneers began to fade, making room for newer DJs like Avicii, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Soul Seekers, Wideboys, Freemasons, Moto Blanco, Seamus Haji, and soon after, Swedish House Mafia, among many others. The following decade was truly an exciting time for the Dance Club scene, with EDM becoming the dominant genre, alongside massive festivals that resembled rock concerts.
One thing that didn’t change was the length of the songs. Unlike today’s musical landscape, where dance tracks often clock in at under 4 minutes, DJs back then continued the tradition of long, epic songs, just like their predecessors. I did very little editing here to let listeners experience true club mixes, with full builds and progression, instead of the short, catchy hooks that dominate now.
It’s worth noting that while Electro House didn’t completely dominate the scene, Disco House remained fashionable, and many of those monster hits are included here. In this series, I’ve included some of the biggest chart-toppers but mainly focused on memorable songs that were likely bigger in the EU than in the States, often discovered through popular Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi releases.
Another trend worth mentioning is the electric guitar or rock remixes you’ll hear throughout. While the fad only lasted a couple of years, it was incredibly effective at rousing festival crowds and packing dance floors. Don’t be surprised if this style resurfaces because, as we know, what's old often becomes new again.
I’ve got a lot on my plate over the next several weeks, but I’ll do my best to push out what I can. Volume 3 of this series is already compiled and should drop next week. After that, it’s time for the annual Fall Edition for my circuit boys. I’m also aiming to refresh a couple of Diva Hall of Fame entries before year’s end and expand two recent episodes (hint: Kylie’s "Tension II" is coming soon, and I’ve got more Taylor remixes from the Tortured Poets Department). Plus, I want to squeeze in a new Throwback and our annual holiday mixes. It’s an ambitious list, but I’ll do my best to get it all done before 2024 wraps up.
Until next time… ENJOY!

Have you been scrolling through TikTok lately, searching for the next big thing in club music? You might be encountering a surge of tracks labeled "Afro House." But hold on a minute – isn't that what Progressive House used to be called?
This trend of rebranding classic genres isn't new. Remember when Deep House morphed into commercial House, then Future House? Great music deserves recognition on its own merits, not through constant relabeling.
Speaking of great music, the recent TikTok wave has unearthed some fantastic reworked Progressive House classics. Think genre pioneers like John Creamer & Stephane K, Deep Dish, Scumfrog, and artists who masterfully used heavy percussion – Chus & Ceballos, Oscar G & Ralph Falcon, Friburn & Urik, Peter Rauhofer, and many more. Tracks like Rui Da Silva's timeless "Touch Me" are getting a fresh spin for modern dance floors, and the results are phenomenal!
Back to the Future: Revisiting Millennial Dance Music
The cyclical nature of dance music trends is undeniable. Right now, the spotlight's on late-90s and early 2000s classics, with artists sampling or revamping entire tracks. It's a trend we wholeheartedly support, and you can expect to hear these gems showcased in future Club Fusion and Peak Hour sets.
This trend sparked a trip down memory lane for us here at Party Favorz. Remember our BackSpin series from way back in our early years? Last year, we aimed to revisit the glory days of 2000s dance music, following up on our popular Ultimate 90s House Classics series.
We started with a Millennial Dance Classics series, but the sheer diversity of the decade made it tough to curate a cohesive set. After all, massive hits often land in our Top Dance Songs of the Year anyway.
So, we decided to resurrect the BackSpin series! This allows us to delve deeper into specific genres that defined the 2000s dance music scene. Each BackSpin release will focus on a distinct genre, with a sprinkle of Trance and Electronica thrown in for good measure. These sets will typically span a five-year period, featuring a mix of crowd-pleasing favorites and some hidden gems ripe for rediscovery – think "It's Love (Trippin')" by Goldtrix and Andrea Brown or "Addicted To Bass" by Puretone featured in volume 1.
For those seeking classic remixes by the likes of Thunderpuss, Hex Hector, and Victor Calderone, fear not! We've already covered those in our Classic Circuit Anthems series from 2014.
The BackSpin Reboot: A Journey Through Millennial Dance Music Genres
The rebooted BackSpin series will explore the vast and vibrant landscape of Millennial dance music, beyond the big remixes. We plan to drop at least one set every month, taking you on a nostalgic trip or introducing you to forgotten gems. Most importantly, these tracks will prove that they can still rock any dance floor today.
So, sit back, relax, and get ready to reminisce or discover for the first time the electrifying world of early 2000s Progressive House! Until next time...ENJOY!
