Party Favorz is back with the 2024 Gay Pride Edition featuring the biggest circuit anthems and reworked gay anthems with that big room sound to celebrate our love for community, hot men, and the divas who keep us dancing!
This edition's cover art is courtesy of Mark De Lange, also known as Dirty Disco. Mark isn't just a prodigious and talented DJ who helps keep many of our Circuit and Anthems sets glued together; he's also a businessman, entrepreneur, and a genuinely nice guy. The hot daddy aspect is just an added bonus. Party Favorz wanted to celebrate this edition with real people we know, and it's an honor that Mark shared a variety of photos with us to choose for the cover. He even shared more than we asked for, but let's just say, we're impressed. If you find yourself in Houston (TX) anytime soon, head on over to the Montrose area and drop by his bar, the Houston Eagle (611 Hyde Park, Houston, TX 77006) where he spins on Sundays and say hi. Tell him Party Favorz sent you.
The Importance of Voting in 2024
As we celebrate Gay Pride month, it's crucial to address some pressing issues. It's an election year, folks, and it's the single most important one in our lifetime. It was true in 2016 when we urged everyone to vote for Clinton, but many couldn't get past the email controversy despite her being the most qualified person to ever run for office. Her loss resulted in a narcissistic, six-times-bankrupt, and morally corrupt individual holding the highest seat in our nation, which allowed him to install three conservative justices on the Supreme Court, giving them a majority.
Since then, they've rolled back voting rights, overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade, and expanded religious liberties to the point where doctors and pharmacists can openly discriminate against women, minorities, and the LGBTQ community without fear of punishment through state laws barring discrimination. Effectively, they've polluted our Constitution and severely restricted our 14th Amendment rights, and they're only getting started.
The Threats to LGBTQ Rights
Many of the hard-fought rights LGBTQ people have fought for, like marriage equality, sodomy laws, and the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, have been won by the struggles and willingness of the gay community to fight for the equal rights we're guaranteed under the Constitution. Now, all of it—ALL OF IT—is on the chopping block. After overturning Roe v. Wade, Justice Thomas, in his concurring opinion, went even further, inviting lawsuits to overturn contraception and marriage equality. Don't be fooled; this court is not comprised of strict constitutionalists but rather activist judges who are attempting to inject our institutions with their own brand of moral righteousness, obliterating the separation of church and state in the process. These white nationalist zealots won't stop until the minority rules over the majority.
Already, our trans brothers and sisters are being targeted in red states by preventing them from accessing the healthcare treatment they deserve to live the life they were meant to live. At a time when drag queens have made a significant cultural impact, they're going after Drag Queen Story Hour supported by the nation's libraries, BINGO halls, and just plain Sunday afternoon family events because somehow, drag queens threaten their masculinity or some such nonsense.
Project 2025 and the Threat of Authoritarianism
If you haven't heard of Project 2025, this organization, spearheaded by Leonard Leo of the Heritage Foundation (who's responsible for the last three justices installed on the high court), is recruiting sycophants who will be loyal to their cause to be installed at all levels of government should Trump win the presidency. They plan on an authoritarian takeover of government that will form the basis for a new Gilead. I hate to reference The Handmaid's Tale, but the book and the series depict the long game these people have been playing to overtake our government and invoke their own Christian Taliban style of governing based on Judeo-Christian values. I encourage each and every one of you to go to their website and read up on their plans because this is a case when fiction becomes reality. Don't think you won't end up in an internment camp or executed for being gay. It's not a long stretch from placing immigrants in camps and forced births.
The Republican Agenda in Public Schools
Republicans are already injecting religion into public schools with their anti-science creationism nonsense and providing vouchers to private Christian institutions for parents (who already can afford it), stripping our schools of the desperate funds they need to teach children. Meanwhile, they're preparing for the deportation of the nation's immigrants, leaving a massive gap in workers while simultaneously rolling back child labor laws that would allow parents to send their children into the fields and slaughterhouses to fill the anticipated shortage of workers.
The Urgency of Awareness and Action
If you think I'm being alarmist, it's only because you've been too busy with your own life and not paying attention, which is exactly what Republicans are hoping for. I understand you're not happy that Biden is running for a second term because neither am I. It's time we open up our representation to new leaders waiting in the wings like Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Governor Josh Shapiro, among many others, to lead us into the future. Unfortunately, that's not an option, and frankly, Biden has done a remarkable job as president with an economy that's the envy of the world.
Don't get distracted by the perceived inflation (it's price gouging by corporations) or the genocide taking place in Israel. Yes, these issues are important, but they will be made worse if Trump and Republicans take back control of government.
You all know me—I'm not some crazed conspiracy theorist, and I don't cry wolf or scream the sky is falling if I didn't really feel this upcoming election could have a detrimental impact on LGBTQ lives. You may not feel that any of these issues will affect you, but I can assure you each one begets the next attempt at restricting your life, and with the passage of each, it just gets easier for them. Don't let them win in November. Your life quite literally depends on it.
Finally
As I step down from my soapbox, I want to wish everyone a very safe and happy PRIDE. Live your life and be free! Until the next time...ENJOY!
