Disco House [February 2021]
Saturday Feb 20, 2021
Saturday Feb 20, 2021
Party Favorz is back with our first Disco House set of 2021 and this one is packed with familiar riffs and samples that are bound to have you asking "where is that beat from?"
Frankly, there are so many samples tightly woven in these tracks (often more than one used in a single song) that it's hard to keep up. There are obvious ones like "When Love Is Over," which samples "Holding On (When Love Is Over}" by L.T.D.
"I Wanna Feel" is a clear lift of "He's the Greatest Dancer" by the Nile Rogers produced Sister Sledge while "The Groove Cycle" could by any song by Roger's own disco band Chic with its familiar guitar work. DJ Mark Brickman's "Got Myself Together" is a reworking of the Brass Construction classic "Movin" from 1976.
Then you have the obvious remakes such as the 90's Adeva house classic "In & Out Of My Life," Soul Avengerz and Krysten Cummings re-work the Aretha Franklin classic "R-E-S-P-E-CT" and Block & Crown remake the Al Green soul classic "Let's Stay Together" with Jeff Roberts performing the vocal duties. The latter begs the question as to why no one has reworked the Tina Turner version of this song. It's practically begging for a soulful house rework.
Another obvious rework here is the Gino Soccio #1 disco classic "Dancer" by DJ Mark Brickman and Venessa Jackson.
Then you have the combos like Crazibiza's "My Lips," which mashes "Don't Call Me Baby" by Madison Avenue with Aretha Franklin and C + C Music Factory gay anthem "Pride (A Deeper Love)" an unlikely pairing that just works. Block & Crown gets in on this game by mashing "Pump Up the Jam" by Technotronic featuring Felly with "Stomp" by Brothers Johnson..
Indeed, there are so many samples contained here some are barely recognizable while others don't bother hiding their appreciation for the originals. It does prove that today's DJs are not just appropriating long lost works (some of these samples are really rare) but honoring all those that came before. It also shows that mom and dad's (in many cases grandma's) music was actually pretty damn good.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Jason Walker has honored us with two fantastic new songs "All To You," which has fabulous remixes by the legendary David Morales and Georgia Porgie as well as "Stronger" with DJ extraordinaire Quentin Harris that has two sets of remixes accompanying its release. These songs are some of Jason's strongest work and I'm happy to see that he's continuing to gift us with his amazing voice.
I'll let y'all figure out the rest of the sampling contained within this set or instead of racking your brain — just sit back, get down to the funky sound and ENJOY!

Dance Club [February 2021]
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
Thursday Feb 18, 2021
After working this set from three different angles and editing out 30 minutes of tracks in the final product — the Dance Club set for February 2021 has finally landed.
Jam packed with the biggest dance hits, this set is the one y'all have been waiting for.
I'm not going to go into too much detail here but I will discuss the inevitable remix for Olivia Rodrigo's massive "Drivers License." Unless you've been living under a rock — this song escaped all the other noise in pop music to top the charts for several weeks and rightfully so. With it's driving 80's synth and personal lyrics — Miss Rodrigo has become an overnight sensation.
While there are no official remixes for this song — there are several stellar bootleg remixes. My choice for this set was unusual in that it doesn't fit neatly into the commercial Future House fair we see for this type of song. In stead, I went with newcomer (?) David Michael's "Late Night Drive" remix, which doesn't follow the conventional rule of short but sweet.
His remix is an epic 8+ minutes long set to a simple house beat but the riff he uses will sound very familiar to most of you. It took me awhile to figure out that this was actually "The Promise" by When In Rome that was stripped of the synths in favor of the aforementioned house beat with a delicate touch of piano that's familiar to the When In Rome classic. Come to think of it, the original relies on an 80's synth to drive the emotional track and a modernized version of the instrumental version of "The Promise" would likely mash well together.
The length of the song doesn't bother me at all. If anything, the build-up is well worth the wait. I'm certain that more conventional remixes for this song will appear in future versions of this series so no worries if this isn't what you're expecting.
Another worthy entry is the closing Tears For Fears classic remake "Mad World" by Timmy Trumpet & Gabry Ponte. This is kinda of a New Trance/Bass House hybrid that stays true to the beauty of the original while modernizing the song in such a chaotic time. It really is quite spectacular and deserves more attention than it's currently receiving.
The rest of the set speaks for itself as I painstakingly poured through countless promos to put this all together.
I'm am currently on a roll and just finished the next Disco House installment set to drop Saturday. I'll be starting on the next Peak Hour set today. Until then...ENJOY!

Saturday Feb 13, 2021
Welcome back to the euphoric journey of House Music in the 90s! As we delve into Volume 4 of The Ultimate 90's House Classics [1994 - 1995], we stand at a thrilling intersection where innovation meets tradition. The 90s were a pivotal decade in the dance music arena, a time when technology and creativity coalesced to shape the future.
Giorgio Moroder, considered by many as the godfather of Techno and House Music, was a visionary artist. His groundbreaking work with Donna Summer and solo productions were milestones in electronic dance music. Decades ahead of its time in the seventies, his influence can be felt in the incredible evolution of House Music throughout the 90s.
With technology advancing, the mid-decade brought a fresh wave of possibilities. House Music began to diversify, branching into numerous sub-genres that contributed to the kaleidoscopic sounds we recognize today.
Size 9's "I'm Ready" is a testament to this innovation, embodying the spirit of a genre that was constantly pushing boundaries. Its pulsating beats and irresistible hooks encapsulate the experimental fervor that marked the era.
The Rapino Brothers remix for Corona's "The Rhythm Of The Night" is another standout, offering a melodic blend of infectious grooves that transcended dance floors worldwide. It's a quintessential example of the magic that unfolded when traditional instruments met electronic ingenuity.
In "Take Me Higher" (T-empo's Club Adventure) by Diana Ross, we see a fusion of classic vocals and forward-thinking production techniques, creating a vibrant synergy that resonates with the very essence of 90s House.
Tracks like "Been A Long Time" (Full Intention 12" Mix) by The Fog, Jamiroquai's "Space Cowboy" (David Morales Classic Club Remix), M People's "One Night In Heaven" (David Morales Classic Mix), and Madonna's "Human Nature" (The Human Club Extended Mix) showcase the era's willingness to explore, innovate, and reinterpret.
Even Björk's experimental touch in "Big Time Sensuality" (The Fluke Magimix) and Staxx's euphoric "Joy" (Lovejoy Vocal 12" Mix) find their place in this collection, reflecting the broad spectrum and international appeal of 90s House.
These groundbreaking tracks, crafted by DJs and producers who are still influencing the industry today, offer a vivid snapshot of an era marked by technological marvel and creative exploration. They embody the enduring legacy of House Music, a legacy that continued to thrive and evolve into the latter part of the decade, paving the way for new sounds and experiences.
Volume 4 of The Ultimate 90's House Classics celebrates the magical era that was the 90s – a time when House Music was not just a genre but a movement, a community, and an artistic revolution.
So, plug in those headphones or turn up the speakers and immerse yourself in the mesmerizing sounds that defined a generation. Let the rhythm take you on a nostalgic ride through the Classic House Tracks of the 90s.

Starting strong with M People's "Moving On Up," we're greeted with a vibrant anthem that perfectly represents the optimism and energy of the 90s. This track's uplifting lyrics and soulful delivery became a staple of the decade, echoing the desire for progression and self-improvement.
We then ascend to Wink's "Higher State of Consciousness," an electronic masterpiece that played a significant role in moving house music towards a more psychedelic and immersive experience. This track's hypnotic rhythms and futuristic sounds introduced a new dimension to the 90s dance scene, marking a turning point in the genre's evolution.
The Rollo & Sister Bliss Monster Mix for Donna Summer's "I Feel Love '95" provides a nostalgic yet fresh take on a disco classic. It's an exhilarating reminder of how timeless pieces can be reimagined, connecting generations through music.
As for the controversial "Short Dick Man" by 20 Fingers (J.J. Energy Mix), this irreverent track showcases the provocative side of 90s house. Its bold lyrics and catchy beat brought a mischievous flair to the dance floor, making it a memorable hit for many.
Moving into deeper and more soulful territory, tracks like "What Hope Have I" by Sphinx feat. Sabrina Johnston, MK's "Love Changes" featuring Alana, and Crystal Waters' "100% Pure Love" display the emotional depth and melodic richness of Classic House Tracks. These songs are a testament to the genre's versatility, blending thought-provoking lyrics with captivating beats.
The David Morales remix of River Ocean's "Love & Happiness (Yemaya Y Ochun)" brings a touch of Latin flavor and spiritual essence to the mix. With its infectious rhythm and India's powerful vocals, it's a track that transcends cultural boundaries, resonating with audiences worldwide.
"I Believe" by Sound of Blackness (Classic Gospel Mix) offers an uplifting spiritual journey, while K.D. Lang's "Lifted By Love" (Elevate Your Love Mix) contributes a sense of exploration and transcendent love. Both tracks encapsulate the diversity of themes and styles found in the Best 90s House Remixes.

Iconic 90s Dance Hits: Ultimate House Classics from 1994-1995 – Vol. 2
Sunday Feb 07, 2021
Sunday Feb 07, 2021
We continue our exploration of the Iconic 90s Dance Hits with volume 2 of the Ultimate 90's House Classics, centering on 1994 and 1995. This installment celebrates some of the decade's Classic House Tracks that still resonate today.
A highlight for me is N'Dea Davenport's contributions, both with the Brand New Heavies and her upcoming solo work. Alongside Adeva and Barbara Tucker, these powerhouse vocalists defined the era with their soulful melodies, placing them on a level that few could reach.
However, it's not all praise for this period. I have some reservations, particularly concerning David Morales and, to some extent, C + C Music Factory and Junior Vasquez. The Morales collaboration with Mariah Carey, like the take-me-to-church revival of "Anytime You Need a Friend," feels misguided. It extended the track unnecessarily, losing the essence of the original piece. The 11-minute epic needed trimming to an 8-minute version, but even then, it feels laborious.
These DJs typically blend the gospel with groove, but on this track, the energy never seems to ignite. "Pride (A Deeper Love)" by Aretha Franklin, expertly mixed by Clivillés and Cole, kept the song moving with a deep groove, something lacking in "Anytime You Need a Friend." Thankfully, Morales found his stride with the mix of "My All," although it surprisingly peaked only at #3 on the dance charts.

This volume of Iconic 90s Dance Hits wouldn't be complete without mentioning crossover hits like the Bucketheads (Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez) "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)" and "Magic Carpet Ride" by the Mighty Dub Katz (Norman Cook and GMoney). Both these tracks bridged the gap between dance floors and radios, epitomizing the influence of 90s House Music.
As I curate the final volume of this two-year series, the progression towards harder house and the emergence of Trance are evident. Still, the tracks remain loyal to the House Music sphere, reminiscent of how Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" stayed true to the Discosphere during its release era.
Stay tuned for volume three of the Ultimate 90s House Classics 1994 - 1995, dropping next week, as we keep reliving the Iconic 90s Dance Hits that shaped our musical culture.

Old School House Music: 90s Club Anthems from 1994-1995 – Vol. 1
Friday Feb 05, 2021
Friday Feb 05, 2021
Embark on a nostalgic journey into the heart of Old School House Music with our Ultimate 90's House Classics series, celebrating the vibrant years of 1994 to 1995. This era marked a significant transformation, introducing Classic House Tracks that are still admired today.
As we moved into the mid-90s, the interplay between Hip Hop and House Music began to fade, each genre charting its distinct path. However, the era was far from mundane; the budding Trance genre started teasing the mainstream, artists like Opus III and Josh Wink paving the way. Legends like Oakenfold and Rollo & Sister Bliss were creating waves with big room House tracks, setting the stage for their eventual renowned status.
Old School House Music during this time was filled with Soulful House legends like MAW, Frankie Knuckles, and David Morales. Commercial House music was flourishing with remixers like Love To Infinity, StoneBridge, Brothers In Rhythm, and Roger Sanchez. Underground sensations like Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran, and Armand Van Helden were crafting Big Room tracks that would soon conquer the club scene.
Unveiling this series is akin to opening a musical time capsule, filled with the Best 90s House Remixes that once ruled the dance floors but have since vanished from the collective memory. For instance, the "Beautiful People" mixed by C.J. became a timeless hit for Barbara Tucker. Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love," remixed by C + C Music Factory, symbolizes the era's profound emotions.
Tracks like the Love To Infinity's Classic Paradise Club Mix of Judy Cheeks' "As Long As You're Good To Me" or the MAW Style Mix of "Everybody Be Somebody" by Ruffneck feat. Yavahn represent the artistic brilliance of the time. Junior Vasquez's Soundfactory Mix of "Your Loving Arms" by Billie Ray Martin captures the innovative spirit of the 90s Club Anthems.
The Ultimate 90s House Classics series is not just a collection; it's a heartfelt tribute to an incredible era that shaped today's music landscape. It revives the 90s Club Anthems, like the Junior Vasquez 10.31 Mix of "Keep In Touch (Body To Body)" by Shades Of Love, which once pulsated through speakers around the world.
Volume two of the Ultimate 90s House Classics from 1994-1995 is arriving soon. Until then, let these Old School House Music tracks transport you back to a time when dance floors were alive with energy and passion.

Sylvester Diva Series Tribute: Celebrating a Pioneering Gay Disco Icon
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
Sunday Jan 31, 2021
Sylvester James Jr., popularly known simply as Sylvester, carved a unique space in the American music scene with his pulsating disco hits, soulful melodies, and unparalleled flamboyance. Renowned for his androgynous allure and falsetto vocal chops, Sylvester rose to stardom in the late '70s and early '80s, turning heads and filling dance floors.
Sylvester's musical journey took off with his self-titled debut album in 1977, featuring the moderately successful disco hit "Over and Over," beautifully showcased in DJ Meme’s nostalgic tribute mix. The following year, he dropped the seminal album "Step II," giving us timeless dance classics like "Dance (Disco Heat)" and "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)." These hits featured backup vocalists Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes, known together as Two Tons O' Fun, who later gained gay icon status with the unforgettable "It's Raining Men" as the Weather Girls.
It's imperative to recognize the influence of Patrick Cowley in shaping Sylvester's sonic landscape. Invited to participate in these sessions, Cowley's synthesized arrangements became a cornerstone of Sylvester’s most iconic songs. Later, Cowley would become an even more significant contributor to Sylvester's legacy, particularly during his ventures into NRG music.
Although the album "Stars" had its moments, particularly with the track "I (Who Have Nothing)," it couldn't match the seismic impact of its predecessor. Sylvester faced subsequent challenges, including the decline in popularity of disco due to the "disco sucks" backlash. This led him to part ways with his label and take greater control over his artistic direction.
Reuniting with Patrick Cowley, Sylvester released music on Cowley's Megatone Records. At a time when NRG music was taking gay clubs by storm, the duo released "Do Ya Wanna Funk," a track that would become an enduring gay anthem. Tragically, during a tour in the UK, Sylvester was rocked by the news of Cowley's passing due to AIDS.
Sylvester continued to release music, achieving varying degrees of success, until his final album "Mutual Attraction." Distributed through Warner Brothers, the album yielded chart-topping dance hits like "Someone Like You" and "Living For the City." Unfortunately, his declining health prevented him from completing his next album.
Creating this tribute set was an emotionally taxing endeavor. The tracks span five decades, incorporating various remixes and tempos ranging from 147 to 106 bpm. The challenge was monumental, but the final result is a tribute that I believe does justice to Sylvester’s indomitable spirit and incomparable talent.
Sylvester wasn't just a disco sensation; he was an American icon and a pioneering openly gay artist. Though not transgender himself, he shattered societal norms and paved the way for greater LGBTQ+ representation, impacting even the "Q" in the acronym. Sylvester's audacious expression of his identity might have been shocking for the time, but it ignited a necessary dialogue that contributed to societal progress in accepting individual uniqueness. There's no doubt that Sylvester left the world a better place, simply by being himself.

Though the group went through various lineups, Rochelle Flemming and Annette Guest were the two consistent members up until they disbanded in 1980. Other members included Wardell Piper, Joyce Jones, Ursula Herring, and Debbie Martin.
Though they never had a major Top 40 hit, they did generate two big Soul hits "Armed and Extremely Dangerous" (#11) and "The Player" (#7).
Salsoul Records who had acquired their back catalog released "Let No Man Put Asunder" from their 1977 album Delusions, which was highly regarded and considered their best. That song was later sampled by Mary J. Blige sparking renewed interest in the group who had a massive influence on 90's House Music from renowned DJs Todd Terry, Danny Tenaglia, and David Morales. Soon the majority of their hits were remixed by other well-known DJs including the more recent faithful renderings by Dr. Packer (a personal Party Favorz favorite).
After listening to this set multiple times, it became clear to me that these songs are better suited for House Music and now Funky House no matter how simple some of them may be. There's no denying the infectiousness of tracks like "Doctor Love," "Love Thang," and "Ain't He Bad."
The songs included in this tribute set are timeless classics no matter how they were received at the time of their release. After all, good music is simply just that and these ladies deserve all the accolades they've received.
It is with great pleasure and immense respect that Party Favorz inducts First Choice into the Diva Hall of Fame.

Blow Your Own Horn 2021 | The Ultimate New Year’s Dance Party
Wednesday Dec 30, 2020
Wednesday Dec 30, 2020
About this time in 2019, I was hospitalized with a burst appendix where I waited 48 hours to have an operation while they kept me hopped up on painkillers so they could run up the bill with unnecessary tests and then proceed to re-diagnose my pre-existing condition based on a MRI that can only be diagnosed through a lumbar puncture. That doctor went on to become the Republican nominee for the House and lost his ass in a major landslide.
In fact, our entire district in GA flipped from red to blue all the way down to dog catcher. While I ripped him a new one (after the operation because I'm not stupid) and embarrassed the living shit out of him in front of his colleagues, I took some solace in the grifter's epic loss.
Little did I know at the time that the new year was only going to get worse save that single glimpse of hope during the election.
There's no doubt that 2020 will go down as one of the most memorable if not worst years on record. Surprisingly, dance music has been a shiny beacon atop the hill providing stability if not sanity.
2020 is the year of the Disco comeback, which provided a bit of escapism to the new daily routines that were mapped out by mother nature. Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now" kicked it off to great applause that was quickly followed by Doja Cat ("Say So") and Lady Gaga ("Rain On Me"). Surprisingly, these songs and/or albums were already in the can before the pandemic hit and acted as a breath of fresh air for our current stale musical landscape. Talk about foresight.
[youtube v="estW7sfx-8Y"]
It was also the year that dance music became more reflective as songs like "ily (i love you baby)" by Surfa Mesa, "Secrets" by Regard & Raye, "Breaking Me" by Topic & A75 and "Looking For Me" by Paul Woolford, Diplo & Kareen Lomax stepped up to massive success where MEDUZA, Becky Hill and Goodboys left off at the end of 2019 with "Lose Control."
For such a shitty year, dance music had a lot to offer in these sobering times.
The Blow Your Own Horn series generally acts as the last kiss-off to the current year while welcoming the incoming one. Most of the year's biggest hits included in this set have been mashed-up with the octave level turned-up high. There's a few new notable tracks and bucket load of classics that have been juiced-up and reimagined with 10 servings of Monster drinks. The energy level is purposely high which should give rise to saying one final FUCK YOU to the year we'd sooner forget.
I want to thank each and everyone of you who have continued to support our mission to bring you the finest in dance music — you mean the world to me. I wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous new year. Until next year...PARTY LIKE IT'S 2021 and ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2020 Volume 3
Tuesday Dec 22, 2020
Tuesday Dec 22, 2020
We have reached the end of the Top Dance Songs of 2020 with volume 3 and it is glorious! This final volume has a more laidback feel overall and that's because many of the tracks included in these sets are pop hits that were never intended for the dance floor. Nevertheless, the songs are culturally important and resonate with so many people that it's inevitable the label either commissions official remixes or aspiring DJ/producers remix the tracks for their own sets.
You'd think that with everything on lockdown, there wouldn't be that much great dance club music but far from it. That's not to say that there was as much during the second half of the year but we still had more than enough to fill our typical three-volume year-end series.
If anything positive came out of 2020 — it would be musical styles in popular and dance music have started to give way to more diversity in their offerings. I realize that many of the songs in this series rely heavily on a formulaic Future House sound and the likes of Joel Corry, J Bruus, Colin Jay, Cosmic Dawn, Division 4 & Matt Consola, Ray Isaac, and Charlie Lane have perfected that sound but to their credit — they're serving up dance floor earworms for tracks that otherwise would never get remixed.
Probably one of the most exciting remixes this year was for WAP by DJ Ranny. Yes, there were several unofficial remixes out there but none added to the excitement and party nature of the song. When Ranny sent his take over — I was bowled over as I immediately knew he hit a home run! It's a shame it couldn't have been enjoyed more on dance floors across the globe because it was a surefire winner.
I think Dua Lipa tapped into something with the direction of music by digging into the 70s Disco, 80s Dance, and 90s House Music to create a feel-good escape on her sophomore effort "Future Nostalgia." Doja Cat equally did a great job of keeping our heads nodding to a slinky disco beat. Don't be surprised if Madonna finally — after all these years of begging her — goes back to her roots and delivers a carefree album that taps into the energy of her debut album. I'll lay down good money on it.
In the interim, I hope everyone is enjoying this mega time capsule of the year 2020 with all the good, bad and ugly this year will be known for decades to come. We have one more set to close the year out and I'll do my best to make it one roof-raising floor scorcher for all my party people. Until then...ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2020 Volume 2

And the hits keep on rolling out! Party Favorz is back with volume two of the Top Dance Songs of 2020 and this one digs deeper.
One of the constraints of 2020 is the pandemic resulted in clubs and venues shutting down. Billboard's Dance Club chart is based on select DJ responses to track and create that chart and without input — the chart was suspended in March. "Love Hangover 2020" by Diana Ross was the last song to top that chart back in March before its demise. Leave it to the queen to have the last word.
While I use charts as a basis for compiling my year-end sets — they aren't the final word; rather a guide. Usually, I use a variety of charts that differ significantly like Billboard's Dance Club, Electronic Dance Music, and Top 100 charts to compile these sets. This year, I added Beatport, Spotify, and YouTube streams as a basis for making my decisions on what's included in the Top Dance Songs of 2020.
There is some consistency in that they all tend to agree on the top 10 - 20 songs but differ wildly from there. "Roses" by SAINt JHN (Imanbek Remix) has topped everyone's list. But, "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, "ily" by surf mesa featuring Emilee, "Ride It." by Regard, "Breaking Me" by Topic & A7S, "Higher Love" by Kygo and Whitney Houston, "Head & Heart" by Joel Corry X MNEK, "Secrets" by Regard & RAYE, and "Don't Stop Now" by Dua Lipa have been fairly consistent on most of their year-end charts. From there, everything wildly differs.

That's where YouTube comes into play. I look at the total number of views for videos and then cross reference the charts to base my decisions. Everyone can reasonably disagree on the inclusion of certain songs but Party Favorz attempts to hit all the high notes of the year as long as they had a certain amount of impact on the listener. That and my personal favorites will always be included.
You'll also notice some carryover from 2019. Songs that were massive the previous year that continued to chart and were in heavy rotation on radio or in the clubs (for a while) and songs that were released in late 2019 but hadn't peaked until the next year but already had enough impact to be included on both year-end charts.
Ultimately, I decide what gets included and frankly, you won't find a more comprehensive compilation for any given year in dance music than Party Favorz. My goal is to provide you with a soundtrack to your life at any given moment in time the Top Dance Songs of 2020 is the defenitive time capsule. As a result, I always recommend you download and store these sets because 10 - 20 years from now, you'll be glad you did. Trust me.
We have one more set to go before Christmas and I'll be discussing the DJs and producers that had the biggest impact on the dance music scene in 2020 and know — it wasn't anyone nominated for a Grammy (a useless award if ever there was one). Until the next time...ENJOY!

As Party Favorz winds down 2020 — it's time for our annual Top Dance Songs of the year for 2020 non-stop dance music set(s). This series features the biggest dance hits of the year and this year starts to shake things up.
Not since 2015 has the Top Dance Songs of the Year been this diverse in its offerings. The entire dance music scene is finally beginning to shake loose from its tight-knit structure to more loosely reflect a wider variety of genres. Nowhere is this evident than in the resurgence of Disco.
That's not to say that Disco music was the end-all this year but its reemergence hit at the right time. The 1970s and early 80s were considered a time of decadence and escapism from a downtrodden economy, long gas lines, and high unemployment, and Disco was the perfect escape to ease people's anxiety. Enter stage left Dua Lipa.
It's been said that Dua Lipa's sophomore effort "Future Nostalgia" was an iffy proposition for the young singer as it didn't fit in with what was being played on radio. However, she wasn't interested in making another "New Rules" set of songs and just wanted to make people feel good. After a live session was leaked online, she was forced to release the album earlier than the original pushed-back timetable due to Covid. The gamble paid off in a BIG way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oygrmJFKYZY
"Future Nostalgia" received rave reviews (even from this writer) and was an uplifting breath of fresh air at a time when everyone had gone into lockdown. In short, it was just what the doctor ordered. Now she's received a record six nominations for "Don't Start Now" and "Future Nostalgia" — the gamble has paid off.
Equally exciting is the continued acceleration of DJ and music producer Purple Disco Machine. Party Favorz has been excited about the German native's work and featured him in a Legacy series because it was evident the man was going places. As usual, I was right because he's literally been all over the place in 2020 and is now branching out. He features prominently in the Top Dances Songs of 2020 and the future looks bright for PDM and Party Favorz looks forward to the continued promotion of his work.
In the next installment, I'll discuss the darker side of the year's biggest dance hits as well as the daunting task of compiling all the tracks that round out this set.
I'm in a bit of a rushed mood to get these out in time. It took a week to pull everything together and then narrow down the tracks that would be used. However, it took one day to put this first set together, and should be smooth sailing from here on out. I'll be back on Saturday with volume 2 of the Top Songs of 2020. Until then...ENJOY!
