Happy House Classics from the Millennium Volume 2

Saturday Feb 03, 2018
To be honest, I created the Happy House Classics for myself and was using it as a stop-gap between posts. However, the traffic numbers on the volume 1 episode are through the roof! I look at Google traffic, Podbean, Apple Music, and Google Play stats to paint a full picture and it's outstanding. I guess I wasn't the only one that needed a boost of sunshine. It's a good thing I made two of these to maintain the high.
Party Favorz has a big week in store for everyone. Rick is heading out of town for company training so I'll have a lot of time to myself (barring the needs of our children; Kirby, Jackson, and Katherine our two dogs and cat). I plan on posting the Jocelyn Brown Diva Series I teased a week ago and part 2 of the Winter Edition which has come out better than expected. Be on the lookout for those to drop soon.
In the meantime, pop on this two-hour set of sunshine and have a fantastic weekend. Until the next time...ENJOY!

Happy House Classics from the Millennium Volume 1

Friday Feb 02, 2018
When I first sat down to compile the tracklist and then create Happy House Classics, I was more than pleased with the final output. When I went back and listened to it, I realized that I had created yet another Pride Classics set which heavily overlapped with previous efforts. Other than the weather being horrendous with temperatures in the low teens, overcast, drizzling and miserable, it's not clear where my head was at; so I hit the delete button and started from scratch.
I poured over all of my sets from the early 2000's through 2011 and uncovered a whole host of gems. Some were used on my Millennial House Classics and even on my recently reworked and remastered Deep & Funky Year-end Edition 2007 so I tried to limit any overlap or used alternate versions of the songs. The final output is something worth enjoying because these songs consistently put a smile on my face even on the shittiest of days. Some songs were big hits while others were limited to dance floors and never made it to radio.
Having such a massive output over the years, it's easy to forget a lot of these songs until you pop them on and get absorbed by the hook. I plan on uncovering a lot more obscure and long forgotten tracks for another two-volume set sometime in the summer. For now, allow these sets to get you through the final weeks of winter. I'll be back tomorrow with volume 2. Until then...ENJOY!

Candy Crush
Friday Jan 19, 2018
Friday Jan 19, 2018
Candy Crush is the first EDM set of 2018 and boy oh boy is it a winner! I was dreading the thought of having to slap together another reggaeton set with indistinguishable vocalists but quickly changed my point of view after pouring through 100's of promos to decide the winners and losers. Once I started putting it together, I knew I had something special with a little bit of something for everyone to keep things interesting.
Charts are used as a jump-off point when putting these commercial dance sets together but most of it is created through intuition and instinct or basically what I'm getting into.
The first time I heard Bruno Mars' latest "Finesse" I was all over this shit. From the Cardi B rap to the early 90's R&B sound that harkens back to BBD (Bel Biv Devoe) to Bruno's effortless adaptability to virtually everything he tackles, this song is just perfect! In fact, I much prefer it to "Versace on the Floor" which was difficult for me really get into. Because it is so stylistically different, I used it as a transition 2/3 of the way into the set, which worked better than expected. Let's just say it was gonna be included if it killed me.
Charlie Puth's latest "How Long" is a given and comes packed with a wide variety of remixes; many of which you'll be hearing as the year goes on. Sofi Tukker's "Best Friend" is catchy as hell and sticks in your head long after hearing it. Martin Garrix's "So Far Away" featuring vocalist Jamie Scott & Romy Dya is quite possibly the best thing he's put out since his departure from Spinnin. Olivia Holt (another product of the Disney machine) is coming out strong with "Generous" as are the bevy of remixes included in its remix package.
Skylar Stecker continues to impress with "Blame." Dave Audé gives the song that "French Kiss" touch separating it from his standard remixes that virtually guarantees a number one club hit, while his remix of April Diamond's "Lose Control" has serious "Run the World (Girls)" streaming through its veins. So much so, that I've already created a mashup which I may release into the wild later on if the song lands in the top spot as I expect it to do.
The remake of the Ultra Naté classic "Free" by Sean Finn, Terri B and Peter Brown has a multitude of remixes that accompanied it but not one of them really offered anything special to the song compared to the original until the KC Anderson remix dropped. This housed-up version without all the tricks and gimmicks finally does justice to the song that's about to hit the top in a couple of weeks and is something I can sink my teeth into.
Probably the biggest song in this set belongs to a pair called NAATIONS. Their song "Want Me More" grabs my attention like no other. The lyrics are well-written (almost unheard of these days) and accompanied by fantastic vocals by Nicky Routledge with a catchy deep bass sound provided by Nat Dunn. Folks, this is real life music set to a dance beat and I expect bigger things for this duo because they're doing it better than practically any other major act out there now. My only advice to Nicky; waiting for someone to want you more is a fool's game. Trust from someone who's been there.
Good news for my i-whatever users (more than half of my followers). As predicted, I've been re-listed in the iTunes store and the link to subscribe is now at the bottom of each player located at the end of every post. Well almost, I'm still swapping out players as we speak but most are there. Google Play will be a bit longer because there is an issue with duplicate feeds I'm trying to have resolved with their support group.
I've got a massive part 2 to Sweat on the Floor which moves the original into a peak hour funky deep tech house monster scheduled to drop next Friday. If you were a fan of the first, you're going to lap this puppy up. I've also got a 2-set release of Happy House Classics or what I like to call tunes that will put a smile on your face in these shitty times schedu...

Winter Edition 2018 Volume 1
Friday Jan 12, 2018
Friday Jan 12, 2018
Circuit music was at its peak in the late 90's through 2005 before cooling down and becoming a niche genre. It remained strong in the gay communities around the globe but has also been popular in the straight communities of countries like Brazil and Mexico. As I've always stated, music trends are cyclical and all signs point to a massive resurgence in the big tribal beats that make up the genre with more of these songs breaking into the Billboard club charts and often reaching the peak position. Heck, even Beatport is listing these tracks even though they haven't created the genre yet, they likely will. Over the past several sets I've put out, I've noticed stronger tracks and a lot more of them. With its massive tribal beats and progressive elements, the Winter Edition 2018 continues that trend.
This set was getting so big I had to leave several songs on the cutting room floor. In fact, I could have split it up into two equal sizes but I'm guessing there will be more than enough for a part 2 by mid to late February.
We've got rising stars like Alex Acosta, Las Bibas, and Spin Sista, while reliable DJs such as Ralphi Rosario, Barry Harris, Joe Gauthreaux, DJ Ranny, Mauro Mozart, Guy Scheiman, and Edson Pride whip us into a frenzy with their signature styles.
That being said, Dirty Disco (Mark D and JD Arnold) the duo from Houston that I've been screaming about for the last year have been churning out floor scorchers one right after the other. In fact, they have already worked with just about every major DIVA known to man with the exception of a handful. Whether it's their original tracks, classic remakes, funky house or big tribal beats these guys are hitting all of our dance floor g-spots.
I've got two upfront promos including Debby Holiday's spin on the Ceevox classic " My Imagination" and a re-work of the Kim English classic "Everyday" that are exclusive to Party Favorz. Add in "More" by the bigger than life diva Antoinette Roberson ("The Lover That You Are"), Brenda Reed's take on the Deborah Cox classic "Absolutely Not" and the on fire "Generous" by Olivia Holt and you've got a couple of guys that are working overtime to make our dance lives much richer. Hell, their current track with Celeda "To the Dancefloor" is still climbing the charts and has about damn near burned a hole in my phone.
Circuit Tribal House has always been one of my top performers in streams and downloads and it looks like 2018 is going to see a massive explosion. Watch these pages.

Sweat on the Floor Volume 1
Saturday Jan 06, 2018
Saturday Jan 06, 2018
What happens when you accidentally combine all of your funky house music tracks with the underground house music tracks? Obviously, you get Sweat on the Floor!
While sorting out the tracks for upcoming sets, I mixed in these two genres and proceeded to start a new Underground House (Deep Edition) set that sounded funkier than usual. Once I realized what I had done, I just let it flow and presto, this set was born.
Doing this allowed me to create an entirely new feel that leans heavily on the funky with some deep and dark tunes with a groovy feel. It also provided me the opportunity to heavily experiment with mashups that worked flawlessly. Either I got lucky or this could be an entirely new direction for this series.
Then again, I really want to slow the beats down to 115-118 BPM for the next funky house and whip up a chill set for the next Deep Edition; so I'll play it by ear.
Until next week...ENJOY!

Whitney Houston Revisited: A Heartfelt Tribute Mix Celebrating Dancefloor Diva Magic
Wednesday Dec 27, 2017
Wednesday Dec 27, 2017
When you talk about vocal powerhouses who've dazzled the world, Whitney Houston is the diva who instantly comes to mind. Her voice, a stunning blend of range and emotion, has been an irreplaceable part of our musical fabric. What makes Whitney even more remarkable is how her iconic songs were brilliantly reimagined for the dance floor that have kept us on our feet time and time again. Today, we at Party Favorz are elevating this adoration to the next level with an updated tribute mix.
As we approached the close of 2017, I found myself reflecting on the incredible support from our donors, contributors, and engaged community. Your involvement is the sole reason I've committed to another year of bringing quality dance music to the masses. To express our gratitude, we've assembled a thank-you mix centered around Whitney Houston to usher in a vibrant 2018.
The initial plan was to create an entirely new set of remixes, but after a few listens, it felt uninspiring. Some of the newer remixes didn't add any unique layers to the originals; they felt formulaic and out of sync. So, I pivoted, replacing the lackluster remixes with a blend of the timeless originals that have made Whitney's songs the classics they are. The aim was to rejuvenate the initial tribute while incorporating contemporary insights into the mix, without losing the magic that makes these songs stand out.
This project was no walk in the park. Compiling this tribute mix took nearly two weeks of diligent work. And truth be told, by the time I completed it just yesterday, the thought of spending another hour and 40 minutes scrutinizing the mix was exhausting. That said, I meticulously edited the songs and believe that the compilation is technically sound—here's hoping it resonates with you as well.
If this mix doesn't quite capture your imagination, feel free to enjoy our original Whitney Houston Tribute from 2009, which still holds its own. But for now, as we welcome a new year, here's to wishing everyone a marvelous and energetic 2018.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Blow Your Own Horn 2018
Friday Dec 15, 2017
Friday Dec 15, 2017
Blow Your Own Horn 2018 has finally arrived and it's the ultimate hell-raising dance party mix!
Folks, I've busted my ass putting this final set of the year together, which consists of bootlegs, mashups, a lot of bounce interspersed with the familiar as well as brand-spanking-new tunes that will carry into the new year.
There is also a smattering of old classics reworked for today's dancefloors that are sure to surprise and delight! If this doesn't raise your temperature and get your blood boiling, then you might want to check for a pulse because it's likely you're dead.
Final thoughts on 2017:
Once again, this has proven to be a difficult year in which Party Favorz continues to transition. Granted, I never expected to get 10 years into this yet here I am.
It's become painfully clear that this podcast poses a problem with my being able to obtain gainful employment. Two of the rejection letters I received cited that my "current interests do not align with the position I was seeking." They might as well say that my interests don't align with the culture of their company because it comes across more that way. Frankly, if your company has a Trumpist culture, I don't really want to work there as I wouldn't be a good fit. d
Another recent interview was oddly informal and the HR person kept going on about how qualified I was for the position. After receiving yet another rejection email from them, I'm starting to think I may also be over-qualified for the positions I've been seeking. In that case, I'm thinking about using a headhunter on Monday to see if my prospects will fare better.
That still leaves open one position I applied for at Home Depot that I am so qualified for and really interested in that it makes my head hurt. I still haven't heard back from them but I'll assume the worse case scenario.
This leaves the fate of Party Favorz. Closing the site all together has been weighing heavily on my mind. The amount of time and cost I put into this is enormous and relying on donations just doesn't come close to covering my monthly (nor yearly) expenses. Continuing the site at the cost of permanent employment is an additional factor in my considerations. Frankly, I am torn.
What started out as a hobby and a passion of mine has turned into a fulltime job and apparently a major liability in my pursuit of self-fulfillment, happiness, and prosperity.
Madonna recently announced she was working on a new album and tour in honor of the 35th anniversary of the self-titled release of her first album. If she's working on what I'd hope she would do, which is to come full-circle and go back to the fun early 80's dance-disco infused sound, which is all the rage at the moment, I'd be onboard. Since I don't know what's she has planned, I've made the decision to go all-in for one more year. It just seems fitting that I tie in the final year of Party Favorz with the anniversary of our much beloved and number one inductee into the Diva Hall of Fame.
That being said, it's highly likely I'll shut down the main website for Party Favorz and just run everything off of my host's platform at Podbean. That address is currently at https://partyfavorz.podbean.com/
I'll have to go back and hand-code the site to get the look and feel of the current one as best I can, which is more work for me but it will lower my costs dramatically. The negative aspect of it is that it will lower my ranking in Google search as Podbean is a relatively closed environment. If I do this, I will also have no choice but to institute a subscription-based model.
I've already blocked the Diva Hall of Fame, Legacy, Gay Pride, and Year in Dance (Top Dance Club Song 2010 - present) sections of the site in anticipation of the move and will be slowly implementing the blocks through the rest of the site through the end of the year. It's not something I want to do but frankly, I just don't see any choice in the matter.

Top Dance Songs of 2017 Volume 3
Friday Dec 08, 2017
Friday Dec 08, 2017
As we conclude our journey through the Top Dance Songs of 2017, let's take a moment to delve deeper into this comprehensive series. For those unfamiliar, each year, Party Favorz curates a collection of what we believe to be the most pivotal dance music tunes. We focus on songs that hold significance in the evolving landscape of dance music, both within mainstream pop culture and the vibrant underground dance music scene. These are the tracks that have been championed by the most influential DJs, from professional pioneers to ambitious amateurs, who have left indelible marks on the electronic dance music landscape.
The Top Dance Songs of the Year series took root in 2007, coinciding with the launch of this blog. However, our passion for dance music drove us to delve even further into the past, leading to the creation of compilations dating back an additional decade. Each annual collection, comprising 3-5 comprehensive sets, is a time capsule of the dance music trends and hits of that year. We strongly advise storing the compilations that best mirror your personal dance music journey. In 10 - 20 years, these collections could serve as invaluable musical memoirs of your past.
Our expansive content library here at Party Favorz occasionally prompts us to randomly revisit older material from our current Top 20. As a morning person, I recently queued up Top Dance Songs of 2014 Volume 1 on a car drive, allowing the rhythms of the past to accompany my wait for the day's news shows. The trip down memory lane was a delightful reminder of how enduring these tracks truly are. Whether you follow this suggestion or not is entirely your choice but you can thank me later.
Currently, I am refining our ultimate year-end New Year dance party mix, Blow Your Own Horn, to ensure it hits all the right notes. With three different versions already in the works, the final output may well be a fusion of the best elements from each. Anticipate an early release, allowing me some respite to regain a sense of normality as the year draws to a close.
The exploration of the Top Dance Songs of 2017 seems to have resonated with you, as reflected in the encouraging response we've received. We'll be back in a week or so with the final dance music extravaganza of the year.
Until then... ENJOY!

Wednesday Dec 06, 2017
Drown yourself in the vibrant club sounds of 2017 as we delve into the Top Dance Songs of 2017. Despite any prior skepticism about the dance music landscape this year, it brought to the forefront an array of musical masterpieces. Many songs, predominantly from the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre, were beautifully transformed by remixes that elevated their original's charm, expanding their reach and longevity in the dance music arena. Standout examples include Dua Lipa's "Be the One," Rihanna's "Love On the Brain," and the superb collaboration of Flume and Tove Lo's "Say It," alongside a personal favorite, "Issues" by Julia Michaels.
2017 introduced us to a wave of promising new artists contributing to the Top Dance Songs of 2017, their longevity and impact yet to be fully assessed. At the forefront was Dua Lipa, who soared to stardom backed by Warner Brothers, becoming an absolute sensation with her stunning looks, captivating vocals, and compelling lyrics. Similarly, Julia Michaels showed immense promise, especially with her standout track "Issues," potentially giving the likes of Ellie Goulding serious competition in the future.
Other artists who proved their mettle outside their multi-platinum bands were Niall Horan, with hits like "This Town," "Slow Hands" and Camila Cabello, with tracks "Crying in the Club," "Havana". However, for debut artists like Cardi B. ("Bodak Yellow") and Luis Fonsi ("Despacito"), whose first singles were chartbusters, maintaining that level of success could prove challenging.
We also extend our hearty applause to Kesha, who with the release of her album "Rainbow", apart from Dr. Luke, demonstrated her raw talent and versatility as an artist. Her Grammy nominations for Best Pop Solo Album and Best Pop Solo Performance are well-deserved.
There's so much to cover when discussing the Top Dance Songs of 2017, but to avoid overloading you with information, we'll reserve more insights for our next installment. Stay tuned for the third part of the Top Dance Songs of 2017 coming this Friday.
Until then...ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2017 Volume 1
Monday Dec 04, 2017
Monday Dec 04, 2017
Welcome to our year-end round-up featuring the biggest dance songs of the year, where Party Favorz reflects on the Top Dance Songs of 2017, curated by your humble host. The compilation isn't just focused on chart successes, but also looks into tunes gaining popularity with DJs and our personal favorites. Despite the diverse spectrum of house music styles, the broader EDM scene has been relatively static in recent years.
There's a sense of déjà vu; first, it was the commercial exploitation of Deep House around 2015, which later morphed into Future House, leaving Deep House to retreat back into its tranquil, melodic roots. Concurrently, the Big Room Anthems or EDM with its signature drops, popularized by the likes of Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Alesso, and David Guetta, became a trend. More recently, the Reggaeton sound, sparked off by Major Lazer & DJ Snake's mega hit "Lean On," has become the beat to chase.
Interestingly, the pace of beats has slowed, and songs resemble radio edits more than extended plays, reflective of the dwindling attention spans of today's house music fans. A significant concern is the over-processing and manipulation of vocal tracks, often diminishing the natural talent of the singers.
The industry's focus on quick returns rather than investing in artist growth is a significant issue today. Nevertheless, this compilation, Top Dance Songs of 2017, endeavors to sift through the music maze to present the crème de la crème or songs that personally resonate with dance music lovers. With over 200 songs to choose from, creating this compilation was no easy task. These next three episodes represent our picks for the best dance music of the year.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

X-mas Dance Mix 2K17 | The Ultimate Christmas Dance Mix!
Friday Dec 01, 2017
Friday Dec 01, 2017
Surprise! As Party Favorz winds down our 10th year, I found myself with some extra time and decided to pull together that one killer holiday dance set that I felt I had not yet achieved. X-mas Dance Mix 2K17 achieves that goal and more.
Pulling together my favorite seasonal dance classics like Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas," Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas," Christine Aguilera's "The Christmas Song," and Kristine W's "Oh Holy Night" while adding a couple of new mixes like Dirty Disco & Jeanie Tracy's "Santa Baby," and George Michael's (a.k.a. Wham!) "Last Christmas" coupled with smooth transitions that are really hard to achieve on a mix of songs like these, you have the makings of the ULTIMATE holiday dance mix or one that I can finally say...YES! instead of "this will suffice."
Since the holidays are always pretty rough for me as I put on a happy face and with all the crap being perpetrated on the world by our own demented, narcissistic and much-loathed president maybe, just maybe this can pull you out of the doldrums. If so, then I've done my small part in making the world a better place. ENJOY!
Donate and keep the party going!
