Destiny’s Child | The Diva Series
Saturday Mar 10, 2018
Saturday Mar 10, 2018
If you've been paying attention, you would have realized that Destiny's Child would be the next inductee into the Diva Hall of Fame. DC was originally an all-female quartet called Girl's Tyme, which was formed in 1990. With minor success, they eventually signed with Columbia and became known as Destiny's Child. Managed by Mathew Knowles (father to Beyoncé), much tension was generated within the group due to the emphasis on his daughter and another member Kelly Rowland making for a revolving door that eventually whittled down to a trio and the most successful lineup of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
The group garnered a top 10 hit after a remix of their first single "No, No, No" by Wyclef Jean which put them on the map. The release of their second album "The Writings on the Wall" generated the number-one singles "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name" firmly solidifying their move from minor players to superstardom.
Since Beyoncé has already been inducted multiple times into the Diva Hall of Fame, it's only fitting to acknowledge that from where she first achieved success. Destiny's Child has sold over 60 million albums worldwide and is ranked as one of the most successful trios of all time. Billboard also has them ranked as the 90th most successful dance club artists of all time; all the more reason for their induction.
This tribute set focuses on heavier club anthems we all know and love while a second set will feature the housed-up versions of their popular hits. Without further ado, please give a rousing applause for the long overdue induction of Destiny's Child into the Diva Hall of Fame.

TLC which consisted of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and was formed in Atlanta, Georgia (what up ATL) in 1990, is the ultimate all-girl group from the '90s that was only 2nd to the Spice Girls in worldwide popularity and hit singles. They beat them in the latter. which consisted of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and were formed in Atlanta, Georgia (what up ATL) in 1990.
With massive hits like "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," "Baby-Baby-Baby," "What About Your Friends," "Creep," "Waterfalls," "No Scrubs," and "Unpretty" these ladies were near unstoppable during the '90s. They amassed 9 top-10 hits with four of them going to number one. They've sold 65 million records worldwide (only second to Spice Girls) and wracked up 4 Grammy Awards, 5 MTV Video Music Awards, and 4 Soul Train Awards. They are also ranked as the 7th most successful act of the 1990s and still perform as a duo today after the death of Lisa Lopes.
The Ben Liebrand remix of "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" is one of my all-time favorite party house tracks from the '90s and featured some of the best lyrics barring Salt "N' Pepa and Missy Elliot ever laid down.
Yo if I need it in the morning or the middle of the night
I ain't 2 proud 2 beg (no)
If the lovin' is strong then he got it goin' on and
I ain't 2 proud 2 beg (no)
2 inches or a yard rock hard or if it's saggin'
I ain't 2 proud 2 beg (no)
So it ain't like I'm braggin' just join the paddywagon cause
I ain't 2 proud 2 beg, I ain't 2 proud 2 beg
Party Favorz is more than tickled to finally induct these fabulous women into the Diva Hall of Fame. Shit, with all the infighting amongst themselves, the label and the establishment...they damn well earned it. HEY LADIES...welcome!

En Vogue | The Diva Series
Tuesday Mar 06, 2018
Tuesday Mar 06, 2018
After the wildly successful dance-pop debut by Expose in the late 80s, commercial music began taking a detour right when Hip Hop started to mainstream to a wider audience. In 1990, En Vogue released their debut album "Born To Sing" which yielded the #2 hit "Hold On." As talented as these ladies (Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones) were, it wasn't clear if they had staying power.
Two years later that question was answered with the release of "Funky Divas" which yielded three top 10 hits "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)", "Giving Him Something He Can Feel", and "Free Your Mind." There was no doubt, these ladies dominated. With expectations running high, they finally released their third album "EV3" in 1996 which generated the top ten smash "Don't Let Go (Love)" but then dropped off shortly after.
It's possible that the long lapses between releases had a lot to do with their decline in popularity. I truly believe that the Clive Davis philosophy played a big role as well. That is to remix their hits for the dance floor to extend their presence in all facets of popular music. We'll see the same with another superstar all-girl Hip Hop group in a couple of days. The remixes were and still are a vital marketing tool for artists to reach as many fans as possible. It's not they didn't have any, but remixes appeared to be commissioned for non-hits off their albums.
Regardless, En Vogue has sold 20 million records worldwide and ranked as the 2nd most successful female groups of the 1990s with "Don't Let Go (Love)" and "Hold On" ranking as the #12 and #23 most successful girl group songs of all-time. ¹
In 2017, En Vogue (now consisting of Terry Ellis, Rhona Bennett, and Cindy Herron) released "Electric Cafe" and is still touring in support of their current and previous work. You can keep up with their latest at envoguemusic.com.
Party Favorz is proud to induct these talented ladies into the Diva Hall of Fame.

Dolly Parton | The Diva Series

Sunday Mar 04, 2018
Party Favorz has covered every major DIVA recording artist that has topped Billboards Dance Club Charts over the past 30 years, the majority of which are included in its Greatest of All Time Top Dance Club Artists chart where Madonna reigns supreme.
I've also completed tributes to other artists whose music wasn't necessarily intended for the dance floor but was remixed by devoted fans because of their affection and stature as gay icons and their alliance with our community.
One such artist is the amazing Dolly Parton. The woman is a tour de force and needs no introduction. She's a country singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actress, author, businesswoman, and philanthropist who has won multiple American Country Music Awards, Grammy's, Emmy's, American Music Awards, and Academy nominations to name a few.
She's often imitated but never duplicated and rivals another diva inducted into the hall of fame for her business acumen and longevity. It is with much admiration, love, and respect that Party Favorz honors the one and only Ms. Dolly Parton into the Diva Hall of Fame. Enjoy!

Friday Mar 02, 2018
It's Friday, which means it's DISCO time! From Nu Disco and Funk to Soulful, Rap, and Space Disco, Disco Cherry has everything you need to get your boogie on.
I need to make a correction to previous statements over the years (and recently) about "My Imagination" by Ceevox. This is in fact, a remake of the Soul classic "Imagination" by Gladys Knight & the Pips from the early 70's. I'm bringing that up because I mistakingly stated that the recent rework by Dirty Disco and Debby Holiday was a remake of the Ceevox classic when in fact it is not. It wasn't until I was serviced the full set of remixes and heard the original Dirty Disco "classic disco" remix that it dawned on me what the song was. Kudos to Ceevox for totally reworking the track from its original origins and to Debby Holiday for updating the song in its original form as well as the Ceevox version. That's a lot of explaining but it bugs me when I miss something as vital as this. I'm a HUGE early 70's soul fan and why I never put the two together until now is beyond me.
Many of these tracks will sound familiar to you as the artists have lifted beats and sample from works of previous generations but there are several straight up full reworks of the originals. Aside from "Imagination" Barry Harris updates the Cerrone classic "Supernature" in its full 11:30 glory while adding his own special brand to the song. While working on a new Diva Series I stumbled on the updated classic "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie from a few years ago. I have to say, this is hands down the best rework of this song EVER! Unfortunately, it wouldn't work on the forthcoming (cat out of the bag) Debbie Harry + Blondie Diva Hall of Fame set I'm putting together but is perfect here.
I also close the set out with a House update of the classic rock song "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. This is one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite bands featuring the blistering backing vocals by Merry Clayton. It was so well done that to leave it off would be a criminal offense if not a felony.
As promised, I've got a slew of new Diva Series for you folks over the upcoming weeks. There are so many that I'll start dropping them on Sunday and release one every other day after that.
It looks like a fantastic spring weekend for us and I hope Disco Cherry puts some light in your life as well. Until the next time...ENJOY!

Winter EDM Sessions 2018
Friday Feb 23, 2018
Friday Feb 23, 2018
Holy Cow! Dance Club music is FINALLY transitioning back to its original purpose with some of the most fantastic tracks pouring out. It became readily clear to me when I was mixing Candy Crush in January that the music selection is abnormally good for this time of year and has continued the trend with Winter EDM Sessions. I can't explain it other than the amount of diversity in releases and genres, spot-on vocals, and generally toe-tapping, finger-snapping, booty-shaking ear candy that I can blare through my car speakers while going 70 mph down highway 85 (not recommended for inexperienced drivers and those averse to getting ticketed). Then again, it helps when spring arrives early and many of the songs lend themselves to top contenders for summer hits.
Speaking of summer, Tom Keller's "Everybody Knows My Name" was released in mid-December of last year. I immediately fell in love with the song but felt the summer vibes were not a good fit for its early release, so I sat on it. There are a wide variety of mixes included with the release. I relented and used the Felipe Angel big room remix on the Winter Edition pt. 1 in January and am now pushing the original version in this set. Why? Because I believe in this track and think it has the potential to be a summer sleeper hit. I've also scheduled the Chat Noir remix for the upcoming chill set I've got planned. You can stream these tracks now on Spotify. The minute you hear the jangly guitar, you're gonna be hooked!
This entire set is packed (literally) with a ton of floor scorchers. Some are currently climbing Billboard's Club Dance chart, while others are waiting their turn. Azure's "Too Late" and Dua Lipa's latest "IDGAF" go hand in hand and are modern-day versions of "I Will Survive." Keala Settle's "This Is Me" is an empowering track from the musical "The Greatest Showman" while Rita Ora's "Anywhere" is yet another gem from the gifted singer who frankly is getting the shaft at Top 40 despite her knack for working with stellar DJ's, writers and producers and impeccable vocals.
Zedd's "The Middle" needs no introduction because it's already blowing up everywhere. Dominique Young Unique's "Karate" is one to watch. The Hoxton Whores deliver a fresh mainstream tech-house remix that fits well with her fast sexy delivery. 90's alternative hero Beck is back with the summer jam "Up All Night" in what is quite possibly his most accessible track in a while. The feel-good nature of the song will have you up on your feet the minute he dips into the verse.
Troye Sivan's latest "My My My" gets the Barry Harris treatment and what a stellar remix! Once again, it's got summer written all over it as Harris turns it into an uplifting house track. Speaking of Barry Harris; He practically saved Justin Timberlake's "Filthy" with his dirty grunge trap mix making you forget this is basically Sexy Back part two. Party Favorz is a huge fan of Justin but it's time for him to branch out. Perhaps some new production partners? I'm not the only one saying it so don't hate on me.
Finally, the next Billboard number one is going to come from Basstoy (a.k.a. Mark Pichiotti) and the rework of his 1999 hit "Runnin" with Dana Divine. We've got the slamming Dave Aude "2014" remix here but be on the lookout for the super HOT MSC remix as well. I see even bigger things for this song the second time around.
Finally, the Winter EDM Sessions feels more like a Spring Break mix than some meandering dark semi-hit set from the recent past. Given the current political climate, maybe that's just what we need to unwind. I've noticed that Disco Dust, released in November, has consistently remained in the top ten on this site, which indicates that many of you have an itch. The good news is that I'll be back next week to scratch it [grin]. Until then...ENJOY!

Jocelyn Brown | The Diva Series
Thursday Feb 08, 2018
Thursday Feb 08, 2018
From session work with some of the most iconic artists and labels (Cerrone, Bette Midler, Martha Wash, Salsoul Records, Artista, and Warner Brothers) in the '70s, '80s, and 90's to her solo work Miss Jocelyn Brown has been a force within the music industry for over 50 years now. Many may recognize the sampling of her vocals (which even I just now found out about) in the massive early 90s hit by Snap! called "The Power." That sample was taken by her late 80's number one club hit "Love's Gonna Get You" which not unlike Loleatta Holloway's "Love Sensation" has been sampled a multitude of times. That song was also the basis for the early '90s #1 club hit "I'm Gonna Get You" by Bizzare inc. featuring Angie Brown.
From Disco and House Music to Soulful and NRG Miss Brown is well represented in this 2+ hour tribute set. I would love to do a more fitting tribute but I've been down with the flu for a week now and no signs of it abating. All I want to do is just sleep. Thankfully this set was finished last week along with the upcoming Winter Edition pt. 2 on Sunday when I wasn't feeling so bad.
For now, please give a standing ovation to the one and only Miss Jocelyn Brown!

Happy House Classics from the Millennium Volume 2
Saturday Feb 03, 2018
Saturday Feb 03, 2018
To be honest, I created the Happy House Classics for myself and was using it as a stop-gap between posts. However, the traffic numbers on the volume 1 episode are through the roof! I look at Google traffic, Podbean, Apple Music, and Google Play stats to paint a full picture and it's outstanding. I guess I wasn't the only one that needed a boost of sunshine. It's a good thing I made two of these to maintain the high.
Party Favorz has a big week in store for everyone. Rick is heading out of town for company training so I'll have a lot of time to myself (barring the needs of our children; Kirby, Jackson, and Katherine our two dogs and cat). I plan on posting the Jocelyn Brown Diva Series I teased a week ago and part 2 of the Winter Edition which has come out better than expected. Be on the lookout for those to drop soon.
In the meantime, pop on this two-hour set of sunshine and have a fantastic weekend. Until the next time...ENJOY!

Happy House Classics from the Millennium Volume 1
Friday Feb 02, 2018
Friday Feb 02, 2018
When I first sat down to compile the tracklist and then create Happy House Classics, I was more than pleased with the final output. When I went back and listened to it, I realized that I had created yet another Pride Classics set which heavily overlapped with previous efforts. Other than the weather being horrendous with temperatures in the low teens, overcast, drizzling and miserable, it's not clear where my head was at; so I hit the delete button and started from scratch.
I poured over all of my sets from the early 2000's through 2011 and uncovered a whole host of gems. Some were used on my Millennial House Classics and even on my recently reworked and remastered Deep & Funky Year-end Edition 2007 so I tried to limit any overlap or used alternate versions of the songs. The final output is something worth enjoying because these songs consistently put a smile on my face even on the shittiest of days. Some songs were big hits while others were limited to dance floors and never made it to radio.
Having such a massive output over the years, it's easy to forget a lot of these songs until you pop them on and get absorbed by the hook. I plan on uncovering a lot more obscure and long forgotten tracks for another two-volume set sometime in the summer. For now, allow these sets to get you through the final weeks of winter. I'll be back tomorrow with volume 2. Until then...ENJOY!

I was dreading the thought of having to slap together another reggaeton set with indistinguishable vocalists but quickly changed my point of view after pouring through 100's of promos to decide the winners and losers. Once I started putting it together, I knew I had something special with a little bit of something for everyone to keep things interesting.
Charts are used as a jump-off point when putting these commercial dance sets together but most of it is created through intuition and instinct or basically what I'm getting into.
The first time I heard Bruno Mars' latest "Finesse" I was all over this shit. From the Cardi B rap to the early 90's R&B sound that harkens back to BBD (Bel Biv Devoe) to Bruno's effortless adaptability to virtually everything he tackles, this song is just perfect! In fact, I much prefer it to "Versace on the Floor" which was difficult for me really get into. Because it is so stylistically different, I used it as a transition 2/3 of the way into the set, which worked better than expected. Let's just say it was gonna be included if it killed me.
Charlie Puth's latest "How Long" is a given and comes packed with a wide variety of remixes; many of which you'll be hearing as the year goes on. Sofi Tukker's "Best Friend" is catchy as hell and sticks in your head long after hearing it. Martin Garrix's "So Far Away" featuring vocalist Jamie Scott & Romy Dya is quite possibly the best thing he's put out since his departure from Spinnin. Olivia Holt (another product of the Disney machine) is coming out strong with "Generous" as are the bevy of remixes included in its remix package.
Skylar Stecker continues to impress with "Blame." Dave Audé gives the song that "French Kiss" touch separating it from his standard remixes that virtually guarantees a number one club hit, while his remix of April Diamond's "Lose Control" has serious "Run the World (Girls)" streaming through its veins. So much so, that I've already created a mashup which I may release into the wild later on if the song lands in the top spot as I expect it to do.
The remake of the Ultra Naté classic "Free" by Sean Finn, Terri B and Peter Brown has a multitude of remixes that accompanied it but not one of them really offered anything special to the song compared to the original until the KC Anderson remix dropped. This housed-up version without all the tricks and gimmicks finally does justice to the song that's about to hit the top in a couple of weeks and is something I can sink my teeth into.
Probably the biggest song in this set belongs to a pair called NAATIONS. Their song "Want Me More" grabs my attention like no other. The lyrics are well-written (almost unheard of these days) and accompanied by fantastic vocals by Nicky Routledge with a catchy deep bass sound provided by Nat Dunn. Folks, this is real life music set to a dance beat and I expect bigger things for this duo because they're doing it better than practically any other major act out there now. My only advice to Nicky; waiting for someone to want you more is a fool's game. Trust from someone who's been there.
Good news for my i-whatever users (more than half of my followers). As predicted, I've been re-listed in the iTunes store and the link to subscribe is now at the bottom of each player located at the end of every post. Well almost, I'm still swapping out players as we speak but most are there. Google Play will be a bit longer because there is an issue with duplicate feeds I'm trying to have resolved with their support group.
I've got a massive part 2 to Sweat on the Floor which moves the original into a peak hour funky deep tech house monster scheduled to drop next Friday. If you were a fan of the first, you're going to lap this puppy up. I've also got a 2-set release of Happy House Classics or what I like to call tunes that will put a smile on your face in these shitty times schedu...
