Selena Gomez 2017 | The Diva Series

Selena Gomez had a small role in excellent movie The Big Short in which she breaks down in plain English how credit default swaps work and how they were being manipulated by financial institutions to their own benefit. I don't know who decided to cast her in this movie for a brief moment, but it was not only believable but put her square on my radar. It was at that point I figured out this junior diva is in the process of diversifying her assets; sure enough, I was right.
From her clothing line to executive producing a couple of series (one for Netflix and the other for Lifetime) and starring roles in several upcoming movies along with the US leg of her Revival tour about to swing into full gear her star has never shown brighter.
Did I forget to mention this other thing she does like sing, records stellar pop songs, and lands a number-one album on Billboard's Hot 100?
The former Disney star has come a long way and is making the smart moves necessary to sustain a long and prominent career. The girl many considered their baby sister that they'll defend and protect is all grown up and is proving to be more than a one-trick pony. Now, if we could just get her to make better boyfriend choices, all will be good in the POP universe. Then again, she's old enough to make her own decisions. After all, the heart wants what it wants.

Knee-Deep

I made the decision to go ahead and drop Knee-Deep the latest installment of Underground House. I've finally decided on which coding bootcamp I want to attend as long as I can wrangle up the financing and have it delayed long enough to find a proper paying job.
Because I am likely the only person on the planet that does not own a laptop, I've decided the online courses via Thinkful (which has gotten rave reviews and is financially solvent) are my best option. Though, I prefer being in a classroom setting, what appears to be very legitimate reviews of the boot camp from a variety of sources (blogs, YouTube personal videos, etc.) gave me the guts to finally take the leap.
As such, I need to concentrate on the prep work for a couple of weeks and I still need to finish the website I was contracted to do. That person who paid me to set this up has been MIA for the past week so it's been difficult to get started without the pieces I need to put it together for her. She'll be back in town later today so I want to get this off my plate as well. This includes design, logo, color palette, and listing her as a business in Google for more professional search results. I'll also need to find a solid payment portal for a more professional feel to the site as opposed to a PayPal button but that all depends on her budget and WooCommerce is out of the question.
That being said, I wanted to wrap up the major categories for Party Favorz before going on hiatus. Knee-Deep goes deeper and often times darker than previous efforts though there are flourishes of a summer feel throughout. Pulling from Deep House, Tech House, Minimal, and Progressive House, this set combines all the elements of a laidback lazy summer day and should ignite the passions of those who dig sonic landscapes in their music (much like myself) when they're just chillaxin'.
I may still try to get Madonna's annual set finished for her birthday coming up in August as I already have a good idea and source for fantastic bootleg material. That's a big IF if I can find the time.

Beach Party 2017 Volume 1

Just in time for your weekend pleasure, I'm dropping the MASSIVE Beach Party mix that's bound to fuel your summer celebrations!
This unabashedly commercial set kicks off with the would-be/should-be summertime hit 'Good Time' by the former lead singer of the Gap Band, Charlie Wilson. While the original is outstanding in its own right, the Moto Blanco remix adds that extra summer feelgood-ishness that makes you want to get up and DANCE! I just wish there was a full version available but I'll take whatever I can get because this song is that good.
The overall tone of this mix jumps from one style to another. It features EDM, House, Trap and Reggaeton; basically all the current flavors of the moment.
I have yet again provided an alternate mix to the song of the summer "Despacito", which has gone on to be the most streamed song like ever. For those of us that grew up during the "Macarena" craze in the 90's, Despacito is the equivalent. I decided it was worth taking that trip down memory lane, so I've also included the awesome remix of Macarena by DJ Belindo, which is guaranteed to put you in the mood.
I have been all over "The Sugar Shack" by would-be country singer Tami. I don't know much about her but this song has been on my radar for a while now but I haven't been able to fit it in anywhere. It's on a meteoric trajectory on the Billboard Club chart so I bit the bullet and managed to work in the catchy re-work by DJ Tracy Young.
Another tune I can't get enough of is "Don't Want You Back" by Bakermat featuring the very talented Kiesza. We haven't heard much from her in a while, but if this is the beginning of things to come; there's much to look forward to.
Overall, this entire mix smacks with all of your favorites re-worked for the dancefloor. I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I did putting it together.

Summer Edition 2017 Volume 1

I’m dropping Summer Edition 2017 early only because 1) it’s finished 2) kicks-ass 3) I’m behind in my postings after manually getting everything switched over to Podbean 4) If I sit on it; new releases will come out and I’ll feel compelled to add on to an already long set; likely screwing it up. 5) part 2 will be released in a few weeks anyway.
This set is a bomb that just explodes with energy! Pool Party 2017

It's officially time to kick this shit into gear! Party Favorz is dropping the Pool Party 2017, which is some serious FunkyDiscoHouseShit on the masses.
Formerly known as Beach House, Pool Party continues the trend in the summer's biggest funky house music currently trending.
As the music becomes more intricate and diverse in its offerings, I developed an entirely new (to me anyway) of looking at the tunes and dropping them into the mix for a more cohesive flow. You'll likely won't notice the difference but for me, it's a much easier/better way of making the magic happen. I couldn't be more stoked at the end result.
At the moment, I appear to be ahead of the game so I would probably watch this space very closely as you may get another BIG surprise tomorrow morning.

Gay Chicago Pride Beats 2017

SURPRISE! Party Favorz was commissioned by one of our loyalist to create a Pride mix specifically for them. Over the years, I've done these for birthday parties, where folks would give them out as part of goody bags, as well as for various charitable events. I'm not sure what Samuel plans on doing with this massive set, but I'm laying odds this is going to be on some float in a parade but that's just my guess.
Regardless, the tracks he chose were awesome. In fact, I busted my ass getting this as perfect as possible. It's not always easy when folks pick out their own songs as I typically worry about flow and energy. He gave a me bit of leeway to add a few things of my choosing and I made some creative decisions on certain versions of songs that worked best but for the most part; this is exactly what he wanted and it's nothing short of pure perfection. Albeit, one song by Ariana Grande had to be dropped because there was no way (no matter what version I chose) it was going to work (sorry about that).

Gay Anthems For a New Generation 2017

I've been teasing out Gay Anthems For a New Generation  what seems like forever, but it's finally here!
From track list, editing to tweaking and remastering, I've been working on this bad boy off and on in-between all the other shit going on in my life. I can honestly say, that I am very proud of the final product.
The whole purpose of this set is to showcase classic gay anthems in a way that better reflects what's going on in house music at the moment. Some songs were only released several years back, while others may be 20 years old. However, the renditions offered here reflect just how enduring and well-written these songs were and that they still hold up; even today.
Between these songs, I offered current and not so current tracks to ensure relevance of the moment.
Last year's Gay Anthems For a New Generation 2016, was the first such set of modernized classics I was trying out. Who knew it would go on to be one of the biggest sets I've ever released (and there have been many).
Party Favorz started out as a play on words in 1999. I'm originally from Texas that has blue laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol past midnight. While the bars would stay open until 2am, folks would be gearing up for after-hour parties. It was those parties I'd show up at and people would ask if I had brought any party favors. I was known for selling my mixes on CD, so naturally that's what they were referencing and the name stuck.
In my lifetime, I've witnessed major changes in the fight for LGBT rights and the cover art I've created for a variety of Gay Pride events over the years reflect those struggles. My greatest work was created for Pride 2008. Sadly, I've lost the hi-resolution artwork and only have the lower quality versions.
Folks, we are at a turning point in our history. While we've won major victories for marriage equality, the ability to openly serve in the military, fast-tracking of life saving drugs for people with AIDS and so on...we are about to lose them again. I won't go into all the unseemly behavior of the current administration because all you have to do is read any credible news outlet or watch TV about the daily ramblings of our mentally challenged president and the blatant corruption that surrounds his administration to get a clue as to how bad things are and will be if this continues.
One thing is for certain, if the great Orange Miser gets impeached, that leaves us with someone even worse. Don't be fooled by his good looks and quiet, seemingly thoughtful demeanor; Mike Pence is someone you need to be very afraid of. Read about what he did while governor of Indiana; his fundamental views about things we now take for granted.
I can guarantee you that the struggle will continue and it will be up to each and every one of us gay/straight/black/white/latino/asian/other to beat back what I fear is coming. Religion is not under assault as they would claim. However, using it as a basis for governance and laws subjects people to an ideology straight out of the middle-ages.
We must stay strong and be vigilant. Now is not the time for complacency.

Free, Gay & Happy | Gay Pride 2017 Volume 5

There is a gold pot at the end of this long rainbow journey Party Favorz has taken and we've almost reached it.
I finally got my grubby hands on the official remixes of Free, Gay & Happy by the Coming Out Crew featuring the fabulous Sabrina Johnston. I had always used a remake by Verde but nothing is better than the real deal. The release has the original mixes and some newer updated versions but I went with my favorite by T-empo.
My goal in bringing back these classics, even after having revisited them years ago was to present them in a newer light, remastered and in some cases with newer modern versions of the originals. I was also able to drop several goodies that had never made it on any of my previous gay anthem sets. While these five sets are far from exhaustive, they are definitely a good representation of what a true Gay Anthem represents.
When you go back and dig through everything I've posted (and there is a lot) and then combine it with Year In Dance (which goes as far back as 1996) or several of the sets from the House Classics, you'll find decades and decades of classic house, circuit, and trance that lifted us up, made us happy, angry and sad but mostly unified us as a community. I'll likely have more to say on that matter in my final thoughts on all the things the LGBTQ community has achieved, where we're heading, and the certain struggles that lie ahead.

As usual, this set is packed with massive Gay Anthems in their original glory days format plus several alternate mixes and a couple that has never been included in previous efforts.
I will say that Faith Evans's "Mesmerized" is the ONLY reason I'm still here today doing what I do. Between 2004 and 2005, I was putting in 60-70 hour work weeks for AT&T and was not feeling the dance music landscape. At the time, dance music had taken a dark turn and even shiny happy songs were being turned into these doom-and-gloom 10-minute epics of despair that just weren't my style.
It wasn't until the end of 2005 that a friend and I went out to the bars when Rick had gone back to Texas for his niece's Quinceañera. When I heard the remix of Mesmerized and subsequently Loving You More, I was so blown away I had to do the one thing you just don't do. That is, pester the DJ about the title, artist, and remixer of the songs. Freemasons were making a name for themselves right about the time Moto Blanco was doing the same. Suddenly, I got that itch because house music was evolving into something that made me happy, and I wanted to dance.
I've gone back and revisited those lost years (2004 and 2005) with the Year In Dance and have more appreciation for the work of Gabriel & Dresden, Scumfrog, Chus & Ceballo, etc. than I did at the time. No doubt, there are some classic gems these guys produced at the time and it's worth revisiting those years. Looking back it wasn't all doom and gloom; it just felt that way.
With all that said, I'm proud to present to you the next installment of the 2017 Gay Pride Anthems. I've got one to go in this classic series set for tomorrow and then we cap it all off with the AMAZING set of anthems geared toward millennials

Over the Rainbow | Gay Pride 2017 Volume 3

Keeping the heat up, Party Favorz is sending up the 3rd volume of gay pride anthems, Over the Rainbow. Once again, it's packed with crowd-pleasing favorites by Whitney Houston, Rozalla, Chaka Khan & Martha Wash (to name a few).
While all the sets are finished, I still need to go back and brush up on volumes 4 and 5 to ensure sound quality and check for errors and energy levels. After that, I'll post the remaining three sets on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday respectively.
Then, I plan on taking the rest of the month off. I need a break. More on that later.

Born This Way | Gay Pride 2017 Volume 2

Well, I'm running a bit behind this morning. I went out for my usual morning Starbucks. Once I got back, the sun was shining so bright, I couldn't see the lines on my car screen to back into the garage so I relied on the painted lines to guide me in. Little did I realize that those lines are not lined up properly and I ended up smashing my passenger-side mirror with a built-in camera. It snaps back into place but I can't get the casing on. I'll have to take it in on Monday and no telling what that will cost to get it fixed but I digress because we're continuing our Pride celebration and I'm not gonna let my shit spoil anyone's fun.
Born This Way contains a slew of Gay Pride favorites with a couple of newer versions to keep the set fresh. However, look closely at track number '12'. This ain't the full suite that Barry Harris claimed he'd get around to in an interview long ago but it's pretty damn close. Party Favorz has made no secret about my unabashed love for all things DJ Meme, so much so that I featured him in one of my earliest DJ/Artist Tribute sets, which he thanked me for. He updates Donna Summer's classic MacArthur Park for today's disco-crazed resurgence while managing to keep the original intact (save Heaven Knows, which he edited out). This is truly a stunning update that's bound to tickle the toes of any Donna Summer fan.
While the remaining sets are finished, I tend to go through them one last time before release to ensure quality in all aspects. After all; if this is to be the last gay word for Party Favorz Pride, then I want to leave a lasting impression.

I've got three more of these coming out next week and then I'll cap it all off with the Gay Anthems for a New Generation 2017, which I just wrapped up yesterday, and boy oh boy is it tasty.
