Bangers! | Future EDM Dance Favorites For Summer
Friday Apr 28, 2017
Friday Apr 28, 2017
Bangers! | Future EDM Dance Favorites is chock full of pre-summer club hits. I had to wade through 200+ songs for consideration when making this and it almost came out to two individual sets but the redundancy in the styles of music coming out these days suggested I keep it down to one and just pick what I thought were the best of the best.
I had two ways I could have taken this: either full-throated powerhouse EDM anthems or the more laid-back reggae-flavored house that has been central to the current music landscape. Since the 2017 Catch-Up is dropping in early June, which features the biggest dance hits of the year so far, I went with the latter. I figured the Catch-Up can be a more upbeat party anthem set similar to the Blow Your Own Horn series I put out at the end of every year.
With temps running in the low to mid 80s sooner than normal, it won't be long before we're hitting the 100+ degree mark. So let's get the 2017 summer season kicked off because it's going to be a scorcher. ENJOY!
Rick and I are moving on the 12th so I'll drop the next DIVA series next week then take a week off and come back with the 2017 Gay Days set. It's not clear if I'll be able to squeeze in a Funky House set before the Catch-Up but we'll just have to see how time permits.

Rihanna 2.0 | The DIVA Series
Thursday Apr 20, 2017
Thursday Apr 20, 2017
Robin Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian-born singer, songwriter, and actress who was signed to Def Jam Recordings by Jay Z. How she was able to secure an audition for him are glossed over on her Wiki page (since that just doesn't happen) but she the single best decision Jay Z made while heading the label.
With the release of her first two albums ('Music of the Sun' and 'A Girl Like Me') her star was on the rise with popular hits like 'Pon de Replay' and 'SOS'.
By the time her third album 'Girl Gone Bad' was released, she had not only taken creative control of her music but thrust herself into the pop stratosphere as a sex symbol with the release of the first single 'Umbrella' (a song notoriously passed over by Mary J. Blige and Britney Spears depending on what story you believe).
Since then, Rihanna has sold over 230 million albums worldwide making her one of the best-selling artists of all time.
Here at Party Favorz, we just love her because of the constant stylistic makeovers and frankly, she's absolutely FABULOUS!
It's been a while since she was originally inducted into the DIVA Hall of Fame, and with the release of 'Anti' last year (the gift that keeps on giving), it was time to refresh her original induction.
Ladies and gentlemen, once again please welcome ...Miss Rihanna!

Barbra Streisand | The DIVA Series
Saturday Apr 15, 2017
Saturday Apr 15, 2017
Barbara Joan "Barbra" Streisand is an American chanteuse, songwriter, actress, and movie director who has won awards in all aspects of her career including ten Grammy awards, Two Academy awards, five Emmy awards, and nine Golden Globes. She has sold 145 million records worldwide and has maintained her position for over six decades giving another one of our favorite DIVAS a run for her money; Cher.
Barbra Streisand is fiercely respected as an artist, an icon, and a woman with a mission. In short, she is the ultimate DIVA. With her recent number-one Billboard album "Duets" she continues her record as the only woman with the most number-one albums in the history of the album chart.
I never thought in a million years I could pull this off but here it is. Since I had long since inducted Celine Dion into the Diva Hall of Fame and now Adele (to which I compared her to these formidable talents) it only seemed fair for me to honor the one and only Barbra Streisand.
Her dance music catalog is spotty at best and I was shocked there weren't any bootleg remixes of "The Way We Were," "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," "Everygreen" or even her duets with Bryan Adams and Celine Dion "I Finally Found Someone," and "Tell Him." David Morales had mixed a couple of Celine's biggest hits so it seemed something would show up. There is one mix of "Tell Him," which I included but it's nothing to write home about. It's a hot mess not unlike "The Rose" by Bette Midler which had a remix from back in the day when home production software was starting to become mainstream.
Nevertheless, this is a solid set and is directly aimed at our more mature followers on the site who I think will cherish this addition to their collection.
It is with great honor and respect that Party Favorz rightfully inducts the woman with "nails of butter" into the Diva Hall of Fame. Please stand up and give a rousing applause for the one and only Miss Barbra Streisand. ENJOY!

Oh My Gravy! (OMG) | The 2017 WMC Afterparty Mix
Friday Mar 31, 2017
Friday Mar 31, 2017
Once I made the decision to include a new Deep Edition set into the scorched earth round of mixes, I re-purposed the cover art by creating a new one for yesterday's Spring Break Edition 2017 and used the original intended for the DANCE series for my new Deep set. So, if you're a bit confused as to what happened, that's why.
OMG starts off with those deep, dark delicious beats that we oh so love around here but quickly changes direction. By the time we get to "Live Stream" by Mark Knight & Green Velvet, this set takes on a whole new meaning. With its dark throbbing disco beat set against an industrial background, I just can't get enough of this song. The song sets the stage for some serious peak-time mayhem that just splatters all over your face like a deep pimple you've been squeezing for eternity until it finally relents.
Set to the infamous disco beat of "Funkytown," Gnarly Davidson's "Fuck Me I'm Famous" let's you know this set DOES NOT conform to your expectations. Will Sparks x Orchestrated's "Crank It Loud" brings back some more progressive house but the unexpected acoustic guitar drop is what really pulls this song together.
That leads us into what is certain to be another number one on the club charts for veteran DJ Stonebridge. He and Lizzie Curious pull off a remake of the classic Olive track "You're Not Alone" that leaves the original in the dust. I expect BIG things for this song. You heard it here first.
We continue down the deep and progressive track until we get to YonPiu's mashup of one of Elvis Crespo's most beloved songs "Suavamente" which turns this into a peak-hour Latin smash and not anything listeners would be expecting in this set.
From there, I swerve off the road into peak-time disco mayhem with DJ Dan's ode to Prince in "Squissh". He take's the massive 80's hit "Kiss" and chops it into funky house bits creating a massive floor-stomper. Alex Kenji keeps the disco vibe moving with "My Babe" with Me & My Toothbrush doing the remix honors. Funky never sounded so good.
Finally, we move back into the progressive house territory with the latest from Oliver Helden under the pseudonym Hi-LO "The Answer", Alok & Bhaskar's Latinesque "Fuego" and a deep rendition of Madonna's "Vogue" by Ki Creighton & Makanan (Trivial) before closing things out with a little Jack House with Throttle's 'Hit the Road Jack" (a cover of the Ray Charles classic from yonder's ago).
Overall this set has a bit of everything and was intended to keep listeners on their toes. Finding the right songs to achieve this cocktail was no easy feat but the end result was well worth it.
In other news, we are 55% of goal to keep Party Favorz alive and the music flowing. If you haven't read what's going on, please take the time to read this post and then consider chipping in to help keep us alive for another year. I promise, it will be worth it.
That's all I got for this weekend. Just in case things don't go as planned, I'll start rolling out some Diva Series next week to ensure we end on a high note.
Until then...ENJOY!

Spring Break 2017
Thursday Mar 30, 2017
Thursday Mar 30, 2017
As it continues to get warmer earlier than usual, it's pretty safe to say global warming is here to stay. Initially, it feels great to have a shorter winter and pretty much skip spring altogether but as things continue to heat up, we may be changing our tune when it becomes unbearably hot.
For now, I've got the HOTTEST tunes for your beach party fun. Think of this set as the warm-up or pool party mix to tomorrow's latest Deep Edition. Trends in popular dance (formerly EDM) have steadily moved to slower beats with a more tropical feel to them. I can't see that lasting longer but there are some definite smokers in this set.
Not to blather on too long, but looks like Party Favorz is on a trajectory to be salvaged for yet another year. Since my call to arms yesterday, we are at 53% of the goal. So please keep it up and help keep us as your one-stop shop for all things dance.
Until tomorrow ...ENJOY!

Living in the City
Friday Mar 24, 2017
Friday Mar 24, 2017
HAPPY FRIDAY! As promised, I'm delivering quite possibly one of my favorite funkydiscohouseshit sets in over a year. Not since last year's 'We Love to Boogie' and 'Boogie Nights' has the music been so diverse, funky, and frankly fabulous!
'Living in the City' delivers fresh new beats from Full Intention, Fatboy Slim, Jamiroquai, and Blondie! It also re-delivers fresh new takes on the Black Box (with Miss Martha Wash) classic 'Strike It Up', Claptone's housed-up version of the 80's classic Din Da Da, which recently appeared in its full glory on 'Hit That Perfect Beat' and was prominently sampled on the Barry Harris remix of Rihanna's recent number one "Love on the Brain' and a re-work of the Chic disco classic 'Dance Dance Dance' by Simioli vs. Jonk.
To round out all of this freshness, we've got a ton of new funky house beats that are certain to please even the most discerning palettes among you.
Couple this with yesterday's 'White Party Edition 2017' (a.k.a. Spring Edition 2017) you've got one hell of a Winter Music Conference which is winding down and White Party, which is winding up. Florida is the state to be in this weekend.
Next week, I plan on dropping the WMC After Party for all of my EDM/DANCE fans before launching into a much delayed fresh off the grill DIVA series of which I have a multitude scheduled for delivery. As you can see, I've got a full plate as I continue to deliver these tantalizing full-course meals.
That's all I got for today. If you're in Florida, HAVE FUN. If not, keep warm with these sizzling sets.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Thursday Mar 23, 2017
Holy shit am I on a tear. In the last two days, I've managed to knock out two amazing sets in one take. The only changes I made were to this one where I dropped the intro track and had to re-create an intro for the next song. Other than that, I stand by my work.
I did forget to include a few new tracks from Swishcraft and a new one from Rosabel that featured Terri B. but those will be pushed off to Gay Days 2017 coming in mid-May.
There is a ton of fantastic music sandwiched in here for this weekend's White Party festivities and as usual, much of it is brand-spanking new.
I've got a funky house set going up tomorrow which is some of the best work I've done in a while. Then again, I'm only as good as the music being released. I guess they were saving all the good stuff for WMC. More on that tomorrow.
In the meantime, if you're hitting the road for Florida, I've got your soundtrack to get you all psyched up for the fun ahead.
I'll be back tomorrow with another new set. Who knows, if I can keep this up, I'll have a brand new EDM/DANCE set for you folks next week as well. Until then...ENJOY!

Inaya Day | The Diva Series
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
We are now at the most important part of this morning's post, which is the long overdue induction into the Diva Hall of Fame of the one and only Inaya Day.
I was browsing around the Billboard club charts a month or so ago and stumbled across a section I had NEVER seen before called GREATEST OF ALL TIME TOP DANCE CLUB ARTISTS. I'll be damned if every DIVA in the Diva Series isn't listed there. I mean, I hit them ALL + all the fan-boy favorites (US Only) who only had a couple of hits (Jennifer Holliday, Jewel, and Stevie Nicks come to mind).
However, one lady was sitting in at #12 who was always on my list but I just hadn't gotten around to it. She is the one and only, incomparable Miss Inaya Day. Holy bat crap! How did I not get to this sooner? Heck, she even bests Miss Barbara Tucker by 51 charts points and y'all know I love me some BT.
Since I've been driving around all over god's green acres, I've had plenty of time to play this set over and over and OVER! Heck, if it were a cassette, I'd have to go out and purchase a new one by now.
This set will BLOW your mind because it's that good. Inaya Day has also worked with some of the biggest names in the industry and isn't just circuit; she's House Music, she's Gospel, she's R&B and she is Soul. However, this set is geared towards the circuit boys, and for good reason. It's all about our love and appreciation for you, your beauty, and your talent. Our boy Peter Rauhofer is also represented here not once but twice. Throw in her sparring partner Miss China Ro, Mike Cruz, and the good ole boys from Swishcraft and you got yourself a recipe for one hell of a party.
If we can get the boys at Swishcraft to promote this set; her bookings will go through the roof. She can call it I Take My Problems to the Dancefloor Tour (bill it as a greatest hits tour) and hopefully work out something amicable with Nervous Records. The t-shirts alone would be HOT property.
So without further ado, Party Favorz is proud to finally pay respect to the indisputable queen of everything by inducting Miss Day into the Diva Hall of Fame.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a standing ovation for the one and only, Miss Inaya Day.
Donate and keep the party going!

Erasure | The DIVA Dance Legacy Tribute Volume 2
Sunday Feb 19, 2017
Sunday Feb 19, 2017
Step back into the '90s, and prepare to be swept away by the iconic sounds of Erasure, the electrifying duo that defined a generation's dance scene. Welcome to Volume 2 of our Erasure DIVA Dance Legacy Tribute, a musical journey where synthpop meets soaring vocals in a mesmerizing combination. This volume focuses on the group's '90s era, a pivotal time that saw them navigating new technological advancements while delivering infectious melodies that were impossible to ignore.
Let's kick things off with the invigorating remake of the Blondie classic "Rapture." This remix amplifies the original Erasure essence, breathing new life into a classic. Matt Darey ingeniously twists the knobs, adding percussive elements and building up the atmospheric layers to create a soundscape that grabs you from the very first beat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTsClwsNaAY
Now, let's talk about freedom—the Erasure style, of course. "Freedom" is a euphoric rollercoaster that invites you to embrace liberation on your own terms. Mark Picchiotti strums the guitar strings just enough to add a dash of rock flair to Erasure's synth-soaked terrain, making for a sublime auditory experience.
While we're on the subject of transcendent experiences, "In My Arms" takes emotional resonance to new heights. With its haunting lyrics and Dekkard's skillful vocal treatment, this remix underscores the poignant elements that Erasure is known for. It's a love anthem that will have you floating on air, reminiscing about those unforgettable moments wrapped in the arms of someone special.
But let's not overlook the gripping remake of the Peter Gabriel classic "Solsbury Hill." In this rendition, Manhattan Clique serves a magnetic remix, complete with pulsating beats and synthetic waves that elevate Erasure's original masterpiece. It's a track that evokes the spirit of '90s dance floors, while also feeling at home in any contemporary playlist.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoiP84_I1x8
What makes Erasure particularly compelling is their knack for balance. They've managed to walk the line between keeping true to their roots and embracing the continual evolution of electronic music. Andy Bell's mesmerizing vocals mesh perfectly with Vince Clarke's expert instrumentation, a blend that has kept us dancing for decades.
Whether you're a lifelong Erasure fan or a newcomer intrigued by their timeless beats, this DIVA Dance Legacy Tribute is an immersive experience. It's a tribute not just to the duo's musical genius but also to the DJs and artists who have reshaped and remixed their works for a new generation of dance aficionados. From Matt Darey to Mark Picchiotti, Dekkard to Manhattan Clique, these remixes offer a fresh perspective on an already stellar musical portfolio.
So if you're looking to revisit the '90s with an electrifying Erasure-centric experience, look no further. The legacy of Erasure is one that can't be ignored, capturing hearts and invigorating dance floors since their inception. Until the next time...ENJOY!

Erasure | The DIVA Dance Legacy Tribute Volume 1
Friday Feb 17, 2017
Friday Feb 17, 2017
In the twilight of 1986, I found myself back in my hometown, rebooting life after a pause post-high school. As fate would have it, I returned to C&C Music/Video—a place that had worked for during my high school years. Erasure's "Oh L'amour" was already setting dance floors on fire, but honestly, I hadn't deeply considered the duo behind the beats. That changed, and how, when their extended play album "The Two Ring Circus" was released.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFduy8qQIOg
Before we dive into the Erasure saga, let's step back a bit. Vince Clarke, one half of Erasure, was already a synth-pop legend due to his earlier stints with Depeche Mode and Yaz (known as Yazoo in Europe). It was the blending of Clarke's genius with Andy Bell's vocal prowess that gave Erasure its distinct sound—a combination that felt like a revelation to my young, queer self. Their lyrics, sharp and universally relatable, had a unique resonance for the LGBTQ+ community.
Now, let's talk songs, shall we? "Victim of Love" is a tune that forever evokes bittersweet nostalgia. It carries me back to memories of Michael, a man 20 years my senior who became a mentor and friend during those formative years. He tried to enrich my life with opera and introduced me to the camp classic "Mommie Dearest." We crossed the line from friendship to romance and his memory lives on each time I play "Victim of Love." For some inexplicable reason, it's our song.
Fast forward to Erasure's album "Wild!" and the gem "Star," a song inseparably tied to the love of my life Pete. A charismatic guy who I thought was my romantic endgame, Pete turned into a life lesson on the power of unchecked emotions. Our fallout was nasty, something I've never been proud of. Years later, in a coincidental encounter at a local gay club, we finally managed to lay old ghosts to rest. "Star" has become a poignant reminder of what was, what could have been, and the wisdom that came from it.
The lines "Sent you money sent you flowers, could worship you for hours, in whose hands are we anyway?" and "Did you ever have a lover, leave you for another, to take your love and kisses for granted? Never to discover, war is not the answer, leave you only disenchanted" from that song really sank my heart.

Creating this Erasure tribute mix was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Each track, carefully selected, represents their early brilliance encapsulated in "Pop! The First 20 Hits," with a few other gems sprinkled in. Vince Clarke's eloquent lyrics and Andy Bell's unparalleled voice make Erasure an indelible part of not just my story, but countless others. And let me tell you, assembling this mix was a labor of love and respect. I was terrified I wouldn't do Erasure justice, but if I can say so myself, the result is something pretty fabulous.
With a sense of profound honor, I hereby enshrine Erasure into our Diva Hall of Fame and Legacy series. This tribute is more than just a walk down memory lane; it's a homage to the impact Erasure has had on our lives and the queer community at large. It's dedicated to Michael and Pete, figures who have played significant roles in my life's narrative, forever linked by the music of Erasure.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

So my last post for Pump Up the Volume was a hot mess of ideas. I've gone back and provided more coherence to my ramblings so as to follow-up with this final set.
These days, I've got a lot of ideas running through my tiny brain and the more I read in the Washington Post and the New York Times about our government, the more angry I get. I try to stay away from the Huffington Post because it's becoming more and more like the progressive left version Breibart (an alt-right nationalist rag). Mind you, I'm not talking about go out and blow-up a bunch of people anarchistic anger but definitely there is a frustration as to how I can channel what I'm seeing into what it is I already do and how that ties in with the electronic music that I promote on these very pages. This leads me to my final musings of the electronic dance music of the 80's.
One of the genres I intertwined with this series was called 'industrial', which was an offshoot of punk. It was poetry laced with anger set to a repetitive electronic beat. While the lyrics to songs like 'Headhunter' by Front 242 and 'Join in the Chant' by Nitzer Ebb may be simplistic, their relevance today cannot be understated. Mixed in with the sugar-coated more commercial elements of the movement, the meaning gets lost. Taken by themselves, the anger and frustration of the times was as illuminating then as they are pertinent today. To be frank, I don't what these groups politics are and the left definitely do not have the market cornered on rebellion.
Right now you're probably scratching your head thinking to yourself 'what the fuck does this have to do with anything; I just like these songs and remember them well???'
For those that have read my posts over the years, understand that I've been a predictor of dance music trends since I started Party Favorz in 2007. The easiest way to do that is look at what's going on in the underground. Beatport has been a good indicator of that since I started this site. What I'm seeing and hearing is a ton of music that's moving away from the EPIC to a darker and more sinister pinning of electronic dance. It's not a mistake that Prok & Fitch with Green Velevet's 'Sheeple' was number for all of January and is still in their top ten.
Don't get me wrong. I will continue to deliver the light and frothy commercial dance music we've all come to know and love from my podcasts. That will never change but...
...I do fully expect continued darkness in the music but with sharper and more pointed political messages in the very near future. I'm just waiting for the DJ's and producers to properly channel their anger into something that grabs a wider audience rather than the current output which sounds like toddlers playing with tinker toys.
Things are moving rapidly in the US and the UK and soon Germany, France and possibly other countries as well. With massive social change, ultimately comes unrest and dissent, which in turn leads to protest. This time, it will likely be bigger and louder than ever before. I will do what I can in my limited capacity to express that frustration and anger visually and musically. I'm thinking the Deep Edition will be a good place to start. You heard it here first.
Forget everything I just wrote. Just know that Party Favorz will keep on keeping on but there may be changes in the way I present things up ahead. Until the next time...ENJOY!

Continuing where we left off yesterday, the 80's was a dearth of diversity in musical styles. The primary focus over these three volumes includes industrial music and it's more commercial off-spring.
If anyone watches AMC's 'Catch and Halt' Fire' you get a really good feel for the time, the music and the burgeoning scene in computers in the early 80's. My best friend Dan had purchased a used Mackintosh from the local pawn shop along with a dot matrix printer. You know the kind, the paper had holes down the side so it could move along as it was being printed. The only thing he could really do on his computer was type his school papers and print them. Of course, he could also play ping pong or space invaders, which was pretty cool. Dan took his passion for computers and landed a gig with the burgeoning Dell computers there in Austin. Everybody knows who Dell is, so I'd say Dan is sitting pretty at the movement.
Our other friend SJ or Sequoya disappeared off the face of the earth when his father called him back home for good. He had a drinking problem that he just couldn't keep under control, which was a shame because he was a super nice guy. I think he's married and a lawyer now or something. Then there's Dale. An unfortunate accident stemming from a nasty divorce that had left him permanently scarred and financially ruined took him years to get out from under it. Last I heard, he found his calling and was living in a commune smoking a bunch of pot.
Me, I was just s shithead going to clubs on 6th street in Austin and sneaking out at night to hook up with some strangers in an alley.
It wasn't until ten years later that I purchased my first computer at the end of the semester in 1998 and spent the winter break taking it apart and putting it back together again to better understand how it worked. That was the point I officially became a geek.
The music at the time stands for itself and I'll go into more of its darker underpinnings in the next post. Until then...ENJOY!
