Madonna’s Birthday Celebration 2k16 | The Diva Series
Friday Jul 29, 2016
Friday Jul 29, 2016
After a month of teasing you folks, it's finally here! Madonna's birthday celebration for 2k16 is chock-full of bootleg fabulosity!
I haven't created a full-on circuit set for her majesty since 2010 and based on the songs I was coming across, it became pretty clear that's where this set was heading. Just based on this site's stats, I know we've got a ton of circuit lovers here and it's a given that Madonna reigns the Diva Hall of Fame. Just like peanut butter and chocolate, these are two great tastes that go together.
This set relies heavily on bootlegs from Rebel Heart and M.D.N.A. but also pulls from her vast catalog going back to the 80s with bootlegs that are so well done, they could have been official.
HenriqMoraes one-ups Matt Moss's take on Like a Virgin by delivering a bouncy tribal fun adaption of the original while VMC turns the best version EVER of What It Feels Like For a Girl (and some awesome remixes that accompanied that release).
Even though it's a dub, Luke DB, Umberto Balzanelli & Michelle give us the best version of Hung Up that frankly never existed with the official mixes. Sorry, but those were always lacking and Leanh delivers the hands-down winner of all the bootlegs with a remake of my least favorite song from American Life, Nobody Knows. His progressively tribal version is just so fun, it's a wonder nobody ever thought of this treatment.
VMC takes Bedtime Story and Victor Calderone's unreleased version on steroids ensuring a circuit lover's wet dream. Ralphi Rosario delivers an 11+ minute progressively tribal opus to Erotica, while Thiago Anthony gives Frozen a 21st-century circuit makeover.
I reached out to Barry Harris to see if he had anything new in the works but sadly he did not. When I told him his version of Deeper and Deeper + Vogue made the cut, he suggested Ghosttown. I tried to make it work, but his more house-up rendition (which I love) just sapped the energy out of the set so I went with DJ Paulo and Jackinsky instead. He's a super nice guy so I'm pretty certain he took it well.
Finally, I close the set out with a mashup by Noface between Madonna and Me and My Toothbrush's Gold Member. This pretty much sets the stage for a fun Chic-Esque disco rework of the original that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face if you haven't heard it yet.
Every year I try to outdo myself on these mixes and always fret as to what I'm going to come up with. While I've always been pleased with the final result, this year I can honestly say I am beyond stoked. From the artwork, and track selection (yes, I had a lot to go through) to the actual mixing, this is one solid set that should set the dance floor on FIRE for your local Madonna birthday celebration.
I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I did putting it together for her loyal subjects. It's Madonna's Birthday Celebration...Y'ALL ENJOY!
Donate and keep the party going!

Billie Ray Martin | The Diva Series
Wednesday Jul 27, 2016
Wednesday Jul 27, 2016
Billie Ray Martin may be an unlikely candidate for induction into the Diva Hall of Fame but her deeply soulful voice and an ear of what the musical landscape was at any given time during her career makes her the perfect choice.
Her first big break came with the group Electribe 101 whose Talking With Myself is considered a classic in all its various incarnations. The original version released in 1988 still holds up to this day but got a makeover by none other than Frankie Knuckles in 1990. However, it wasn't until 1998 when a new set of remixes by Canny (one a Trance mix and the other a Chill mix) both won the hearts and minds of club-goers and the electronic music community.
By the mid-90s Electribe 101 had broken up while negotiating a new record contract and Billie ultimately went solo and was signed to Sire/Warner in the US. The resulting album was the mesmerizing Deadline For My Memories coupled with Kristine W's Land of the Living (released around the same time in 1996 in the US) held a very special place in my musical heart, even to this day.
That album contained many songs that were slated for the second Electribe 101 album including Your Loving Arms, which went on to massive success at radio and in the clubs.
It's unclear as to why Billie Ray left Warner records but it may have had something to do with her not being allowed to record in a Memphis studio, a lifelong dream of hers.
From there, Billie Ray has controlled her destiny releasing material on her own labels or in collaboration with other artists. Musically, she swings from electronic and house to circuit and deep house. With unmatched vocal skills that are perfectly suited for the Stax influence of artists like Aretha Franklin, you can see just how easily it translates into the aforementioned genres.
While the mix I've created in her honor comes nowhere close to her output over the years, it's a good start.
It is with great love and respect that Party Favorz honors Billie Ray Martin by inducting her into the Diva Hall of Fame. You're in good company.

Shake Your Groove Thing | Trash Disco Megamix
Friday Jul 22, 2016
Friday Jul 22, 2016
Shake Your Groove Thing will be the last for awhile in the Trash Disco Series. There are other things I'd like to put out in the BackSpin category so I'll be setting these on the back-burner for the moment.
But hey, you've got a total of seven, yes seven in this group should you want to throw a disco party.
The beats or (BPM) in this final set start around 128 and slowly build up to 134, so it is a bit faster than the last two. If you're wondering why Amii Stewart's classic Knock on Wood doesn't make an appearance despite being on the cover art, is because I just could make it work. I'll set it aside for a future set to see what I can do.
In the meantime, get ready for some more rump-shaking fun and shake your groove thing!
I'll be back next week with Madonna's birthday celebration mix. Until then ...ENJOY!

Groove Line | Trash Disco Megamix
Thursday Jul 21, 2016
Thursday Jul 21, 2016
Picking up where we left off yesterday, Trash Disco [Groove Line] continues the same theme with a few brand new Dr. Packer remixes thrown in.
At this point, I've pretty much convinced myself that Odyssey's Native New Yorker is quite possibly my all-time favorite disco anthem. At the time, I hadn't saved enough money from mowing lawns to buy my own record player yet and had to rely on my sister's which for some inextricable reason was located on a top shelf in her bedroom closet, though connected.
When she wasn't there, I'd have to grab the ladder from the garage and set it up so I could listen to this 45, which I would play over and over, while imagining myself on roller skates dancing with my favorite unknown boyfriend under the disco lights. I was a weird kid for certain but often fantasized about unrealistic things about where I saw my future life. To this day, the song still conjures up those same feelings.
Each tune in this set is massive and reached the upper echelons of the Billboard disco chart. So sit back and relax or put on your spandex and platforms and get ready to boogie!
Music plays, everyone's dancin' closer and closer
Makin' friends and findin' lovers
There you are lost in the shadows, searchin' for someone [Searchin' for someone]
To set you free from New York City
And, whoa, where did all those yesterdays go
When you still believed love could really be like a Broadway show
You are the star, win the applause
Oh, oh, oh [Oh, oh, oh]
You're a native New Yorker
No one opens the door
For a native New Yorker
I'll be back tomorrow with the final set. Until then ...ENJOY!

Pool Party 2K16
Friday Jul 15, 2016
Friday Jul 15, 2016
Party Favorz is back with some cool summer funky house music for mingling around the pool or lounging at the beach. The 2016 Pool Party is simply a renaming of the annual Beach House Edition but still has the bright Disco House fun you normally expect from the series.
Things kick off with a sunny bootleg remix of the 80s Tears for Fears classic Everybody Wants to Rule the World, which should immediately put a smile on your face. If it doesn't, then there is something seriously wrong with your mindset.
From there, Soul singer Leroy Burgess re-works one of his classic tunes Barely Breaking Even with Sweden's OPOLOPO delivering a satisfying 80s R&B dance remix that keeps up that fuzzy feelgood feeling. If you haven't picked up on it yet, there are a lot of classics reworked for this set.
CeCe Peniston's early 90s house smash Finally gets the treatment along with Nightcrawler's Push the Feeling On and a personal favorite from 1989, Good Life by Inner City (a song I hold near and dear to my heart).
Bob Marley has been popping up everywhere lately and this time it's a dance floor remix of Could Be Loved. I'm thinking his music has either entered into the public domain or his family has opened up his catalog for sampling and outright remakes. As a Marley fan, I couldn't be happier.
We delve into a bit of deeper house music for a bit with Miss Barbra Tucker finally declaring "I don't know what you came here to do." Two snaps for the queen of House Music because she just did it.
Nora En Pure delivers a classic beach house anthem that will soothe your mind, body, and soul and New Order has teamed with Claptone for a sweet house version of People on the High Line.
We get back into the classic re-works with Cyrstal Waters Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless) another song near and dear to my heart followed by an unexpected re-work of the late 70s rock anthem Black Betty that works so well as a house-floor shaker, it makes you wonder why no one had the balls to pull this off ages ago.
Finally, I close things out with a near faithful re-work of the late 70s disco classic Boogie Oogie Oogie by Taste of Honey, which may leave you wanting more. Never fear, I'm working on some new Trash Disco sets for next week.
With yesterday's tragedy in France, I've decided to stay off of my soapbox since this insanity is becoming an all too common occurrence. Instead, I've decided to change my icon to show support and unity with the French people in their time of grief.
Anything I have to say about the state of the human race and politics will be reserved for later in the fall once the US elections begin heating up. For now, I'm pretty certain folks know what I think about the willful ignorance and outright stupidity of the far-right's leadership and nominee for president.
That's all I got for now. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and as always ...ENJOY!

Back Into the Deep
Thursday Jul 14, 2016
Thursday Jul 14, 2016
Back by popular uh, request ...the Deep Edition is getting a new life in the form of the Deep Sessions.
When I dropped this popular series back in 2009, it had transitioned into the System Edition as the musical landscape was becoming more obtuse, electronic and frankly (IMHO) difficult to enjoy. Ultimately, I dropped it altogether.
The original series actually started out as a mish-mash of Soulful house, Deep House, Tech House, Minimal and Electronica depending on what was left over from previous sets. At its peak, the genres began to taper down to more Deep House and Tech House, which is what moved so many of you, that still have fond memories and long for those days.
I've always said that music (especially house music) is cyclical. A certain style is in vogue one day and the next day it's out, then bounces back again a decade or so later. Witness the rise of NuDisco, which is nothing more than modern-day version of its parent Disco. The same can be said for Deep House and Tech House. Those genres really had moved away from their roots (or evolved if you will) but now appear to be swinging back around.
I do believe I've captured the feel and spirit of those earlier sets with Back Into the Deep but I'll let you folks decide if I move forward with this new incarnation.
In the interim, I have fully re-instated the back catalog for the Deep Edition for premium subscribers, though some of the earlier versions had two sets in one post, in which case I made the first set available for free and the second strictly for premium members. You'll have to figure it out on your own because the posting format that I used in the early days was a bit convoluted.
Anyway, let me know what you think. The success or failure of this series is solely dependent on YOU; so make your voice heard or it will be back to the dustbin of history once again.
I'll be back tomorrow with some cool funky house for ya. Until then ...ENJOY!

Summer Edition 2016 Volume 1
Saturday Jul 09, 2016
Saturday Jul 09, 2016
Happy sweltering Saturday! Party Favorz has been on a roll and I decided to go ahead and drop the annual Summer Edition featuring some of the biggest circuit beats of the moment.
We kick things off with Kristine W's (soon to be yet another #1) Out There, which admittedly took me awhile to get on board with but I'm firmly in her camp on this now. Looking forward to the second set of mixes that are scheduled to come out for this song.
Israeli hotty Guy Scheiman brings us an unlikely update to the Carly Simon classic about her ex, Warren Beatty You're So Vain. At first I was like, what the hell are you thinking? After listening to the fantastic vocals by Michal S, I really started getting into it and I'm pretty certain you will too.
Anderson Thacher and Pepper MaShay are currently riding high with You Stop Breakin My Heart. The release has plenty of stellar remixes to choose from but I took the progressive root with Tracy's mix.
Given the current state of the union, Andra Day's Rise Up has been one of the most significant if not poignant releases this summer. Folks, I think we're on the brink of reliving the 60s all over again, just keep your guns at home.
I should go ahead and mention Dirty Disco's fabulous re-work of the Kim English classic Unspeakable Joy, a song very near and dear to my heart. Given Kim's history of fame to shame, many of you might consider this a cringe-worthy choice but I respectfully disagree. No matter the singer, we OWN this motherfucking song. If it wasn't for us, there would be no song nor any Kim English.
JOY!
Unspeakable Joy!
'Cause they did not give it, they cannot take it away!
So re-purposing this song for our own needs is our right and I thank the boys (Mark D & JD Arnold) a.k.a. Dirty Disco for updating this song and reminding us what we do have.
San Francisco's tiny little gay music label that could, Swishcraft is riding high with Toy Armada, DJ Grind and Ultra Nate's One Night in Heaven, which is also currently moving up the dance charts. They also just dropped Move Your Body by Caroline Lund and Leo Frappier, which I've been all over since I heard it just last week. The remix package on this is equally as compelling, with so many tribal-i-cious choices.
I can't begin to tell you how many folks have posted their longing for the return of high-quality circuit house music; well this is it and Swishcraft is currently doing their best to fill the void, so be sure to support their efforts.
...and then there is Barry, oh how I do love thee. I get proudly erect at the mere mention of his name. I don't think I've released a circuit set in the last two years that didn't have one of his mixes on it. This time we get a monster re-boot of Dreamer by Janice Robinson (of Livin Joy) which just soars as well as a ground-up re-work of Meghan Trainor's Top 40 hit Me Too.
All in all, the Summer Circuit Edition for 2016 will pump you up and make your balls sweat. My aim is to have a part two out for you boys by August so please stay tuned ...
Until the next time ...ENJOY!

Summer Slammers Volume 1
Friday Jul 08, 2016
Friday Jul 08, 2016
Welcome to Summer Slammers which features some of the best EDM to get you through the heat of summer!
...screeching brakes...
It would be nice if we could get from post to post, week to week without some senseless shooting making headlines. My heart goes out to the families of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile as well as the Dallas police officers who were shot and killed while protecting the free-speech rights of folks protesting the shootings from poorly-trained, biased, and/or prejudiced law-enforcement officers.
Last year, I moved to a suburb of Atlanta that's more diverse than any place I've ever lived. The community makeup consists of immigrants from Mexico and Central America, Blacks, Whites, Asians, and Muslims. These are my neighbors and the good folks I interact with daily. I use the same philosophy in my life that I instill for this website:
Whether you’re gay, straight, black, white, pink, or purple, Party Favorz has no boundaries and everyone IS welcome here.
I don't know how you teach folks to not hate others because of their skin color, gender, sexuality, or even religion because it starts at home and comes from within. Then again, my parents often employ this subtle "dog whistle" of racism from time to time, though they'll deny it because they don't recognize it. How I was able to escape that is beyond me but it likely had to do with leaving home right after high school and moving to Austin, then Dallas, and then Atlanta. I prefer large cities with a variety of cultures and experiences because it makes life much richer.
Party Favorz was started during an election year when Obama and Clinton were neck and neck in the primaries. It was heated and contentious but ultimately, Obama won out.
Now, we are at the cusp of a new presidential election where our only two (realistic) choices are Clinton (a truly dishonest and self-serving career politician) and Trump (a narcissistic, racist, misogynist, bottom-feeding POS who acts like a 12-year-old bully). While I want to change in this country and wouldn't vote against my self-interests by casting a vote for Trump, I'm happy to give Clinton four years to prove her worthiness and if not throw her ass out on the street if she can't produce.
Sadly, working with a Congress that's comprised of representatives from heavily gerrymandered districts that in no way reflect the makeup of the constituency of the states has proven to be impossible. These are the pro-gun, anti-abortion, anti-gay, pro-religion nut-sacks that hold the country by its balls.
If you want change, start at the local level, then state, and then national. Get involved, run for office, volunteer, and make your voice heard; most importantly, get out and VOTE! That's the only way REAL change will come to this country.
Now, let the music play.

Wednesday Jun 29, 2016
Returning with the final installment of our tribute series to the extraordinary Victor Calderone, we've handpicked some tracks that truly define the maestro's versatility and influence. Highlights from this concluding volume include the ethereal sounds of "Beautiful" by Mandalay, Madonna's chart-topping "Die Another Day," and the soulful gospel groove of Mary Mary's "Shackles (Praise You)" turned upside down into a big room floor-filler like only Calderone could do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eCCvrP223c
Also making the cut are the electro-vibes in Goldfrapp's "Strict Machine" and the vocal powerhouse in Dynamix & Tina Ann's "Don't Want Another Man." These selections epitomize the artistry and range that Victor Calderone brings to the world of dance music.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Get ready for Volume 2 of our Victor Calderone Dance Music Tribute, where we dive deep into the treasure trove that is Victor Calderone's versatile remix portfolio. This edition brings you an assortment of chart-toppers, iconic hits, and some unexpected bootlegs that showcase the depth of Calderone's mastery over the turntables.
One track that demands attention is K.D. Lang's "Summerfling," a song that epitomizes summer love, wrapped in Victor Calderone's beats. Alongside this, we have Shapeshifters' "Lola's Theme," a track that Calderone turns into an irresistible siren's call to the dance floor. If sultry rhythms are more your style, you'll adore Calderone's take on Beyoncé's "Naughty Girl." He keeps the sensuality of the original but elevates it into an anthem of empowerment.
Bette Midler's "I'm Beautiful" receives the Victor Calderone treatment, making the song an even more powerful testament to self-love and acceptance. But it's Madonna's "Frozen" that proves to be a defining moment in Calderone's career, signaling his swift ascent in the dance music scene. His remix breathes new life into this Madonna classic, accentuating its haunting melody while adding a pulsating beat that keeps you glued to the dance floor.

Speaking of Madonna, Victor Calderone's remix of "Bedtime Story," also penned by the Queen of Pop, seamlessly complements her tracks from the "Ray of Light" era. Though it came out long after the original, it feels like a missing puzzle piece that completes the picture. This particular remix could comfortably fit between "Sky Fits Heaven" and "Skin," capturing the essence of what makes Madonna's music perennially relevant.
Another interesting addition to this set is an unreleased bootleg of Britney Spears' "Everytime." While it might feel a tad unfinished, it’s an intriguing what-could-have-been, showcasing Calderone's knack for making even the most challenging tracks remix-worthy.
With the 4th of July weekend just around the corner and some other engagements on the horizon, stay tuned for the third and final installment in this Victor Calderone tribute series, dropping tomorrow for your holiday pleasure.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Victor Calderone Dance Music Tribute Volume 1

I've been planning a Victor Calderone tribute series for some time, aiming to spotlight the celebrated aspects of his prolific career. With a treasure trove of his mixes stored in a dedicated folder, I finally carved out the time to assemble these sets—and trust me, they're absolute roof-raisers that Victor Calderone fans will love.
Delving into his life story or his ascension to being Madonna's go-to DJ isn't the focus here; he's spoken at length about these in various interviews. What stands out about Victor Calderone is his efficiency; he's known for turning out some of his best work in a week's time. This "don't overthink it" philosophy has significantly influenced my approach to creating episodes for this site, a lesson I wish I had absorbed earlier in my career.
These curated sets were crafted in a single take, fine-tuned later to enhance their flow. Clocking in at more than nine minutes each, they've been pre and post-mastered for an impeccable audio experience. Special attention went into Sarah Brightman's rendition of "Dust in the Wind," which I discovered in my collection. The song had a glitch toward its end, a flaw that I've now rectified for your listening pleasure.

Contrary to popular belief, Victor Calderone did not remix certain songs often attributed to him. For example, he did remix Destiny Child's version of the Samantha Sang classic, "Emotion," but he didn't touch "Emotions," performed by Elle Patrice which was remixed by Tony Moran. Likewise, the popular remix of Kristine W's "O Holy Night" wasn't Calderone's work either but that of Illicit, who also made a splash during Victor's heyday.
Nowadays, Victor Calderone maintains an active presence in the industry but has shifted his focus towards darker, more subdued original productions. You can still catch his live sets, as he continues to tour extensively. Check out his schedule on Resident Advisor to see when he'll be gracing a venue near you.
In an industry filled with talent, Victor Calderone stands out for his consistency, versatility, and his undeniable influence on progressive house music. As a creator, he's taught us the value of trusting one's instincts, a lesson that holds weight whether you're crafting a nine-minute mix or a sprawling tribute series like this one.
It's an honor for Party Favorz to pay tribute to Victor Calderone and his invaluable contributions to the world of progressive house music. His legacy is a testament to the transformative power of the genre, and his enduring work continues to inspire both fans and fellow artists alike.
