EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

Victor Calderone Dance Music Tribute Volume 3
Wednesday Jun 29, 2016
Wednesday Jun 29, 2016
Returning with the final installment of our tribute series to the extraordinary Victor Calderone, we've handpicked some tracks that truly define the maestro's versatility and influence. Highlights from this concluding volume include the ethereal sounds of "Beautiful" by Mandalay, Madonna's chart-topping "Die Another Day," and the soulful gospel groove of Mary Mary's "Shackles (Praise You)" turned upside down into a big room floor-filler like only Calderone could do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eCCvrP223c
Also making the cut are the electro-vibes in Goldfrapp's "Strict Machine" and the vocal powerhouse in Dynamix & Tina Ann's "Don't Want Another Man." These selections epitomize the artistry and range that Victor Calderone brings to the world of dance music.

Victor Calderone Dance Music Tribute Volume 2
Tuesday Jun 28, 2016
Tuesday Jun 28, 2016
Get ready for Volume 2 of our Victor Calderone Dance Music Tribute, where we dive deep into the treasure trove that is Victor Calderone's versatile remix portfolio. This edition brings you an assortment of chart-toppers, iconic hits, and some unexpected bootlegs that showcase the depth of Calderone's mastery over the turntables.
One track that demands attention is K.D. Lang's "Summerfling," a song that epitomizes summer love, wrapped in Victor Calderone's beats. Alongside this, we have Shapeshifters' "Lola's Theme," a track that Calderone turns into an irresistible siren's call to the dance floor. If sultry rhythms are more your style, you'll adore Calderone's take on Beyoncé's "Naughty Girl." He keeps the sensuality of the original but elevates it into an anthem of empowerment.
Bette Midler's "I'm Beautiful" receives the Victor Calderone treatment, making the song an even more powerful testament to self-love and acceptance. But it's Madonna's "Frozen" that proves to be a defining moment in Calderone's career, signaling his swift ascent in the dance music scene. His remix breathes new life into this Madonna classic, accentuating its haunting melody while adding a pulsating beat that keeps you glued to the dance floor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WZAdxl7ffA
Speaking of Madonna, Victor Calderone's remix of "Bedtime Story," also penned by the Queen of Pop, seamlessly complements her tracks from the "Ray of Light" era. Though it came out long after the original, it feels like a missing puzzle piece that completes the picture. This particular remix could comfortably fit between "Sky Fits Heaven" and "Skin," capturing the essence of what makes Madonna's music perennially relevant.
Another interesting addition to this set is an unreleased bootleg of Britney Spears' "Everytime." While it might feel a tad unfinished, it’s an intriguing what-could-have-been, showcasing Calderone's knack for making even the most challenging tracks remix-worthy.
With the 4th of July weekend just around the corner and some other engagements on the horizon, stay tuned for the third and final installment in this Victor Calderone tribute series, dropping tomorrow for your holiday pleasure.

Victor Calderone Dance Music Tribute Volume 1
Saturday Jun 25, 2016
Saturday Jun 25, 2016
I've been planning a Victor Calderone tribute series for some time, aiming to spotlight the celebrated aspects of his prolific career. With a treasure trove of his mixes stored in a dedicated folder, I finally carved out the time to assemble these sets—and trust me, they're absolute roof-raisers that Victor Calderone fans will love.
Delving into his life story or his ascension to being Madonna's go-to DJ isn't the focus here; he's spoken at length about these in various interviews. What stands out about Victor Calderone is his efficiency; he's known for turning out some of his best work in a week's time. This "don't overthink it" philosophy has significantly influenced my approach to creating episodes for this site, a lesson I wish I had absorbed earlier in my career.
These curated sets were crafted in a single take, fine-tuned later to enhance their flow. Clocking in at more than nine minutes each, they've been pre and post-mastered for an impeccable audio experience. Special attention went into Sarah Brightman's rendition of "Dust in the Wind," which I discovered in my collection. The song had a glitch toward its end, a flaw that I've now rectified for your listening pleasure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE0dqIRmhJ8
Contrary to popular belief, Victor Calderone did not remix certain songs often attributed to him. For example, he did remix Destiny Child's version of the Samantha Sang classic, "Emotion," but he didn't touch "Emotions," performed by Elle Patrice which was remixed by Tony Moran. Likewise, the popular remix of Kristine W's "O Holy Night" wasn't Calderone's work either but that of Illicit, who also made a splash during Victor's heyday.
Nowadays, Victor Calderone maintains an active presence in the industry but has shifted his focus towards darker, more subdued original productions. You can still catch his live sets, as he continues to tour extensively. Check out his schedule on Resident Advisor to see when he'll be gracing a venue near you.
In an industry filled with talent, Victor Calderone stands out for his consistency, versatility, and his undeniable influence on progressive house music. As a creator, he's taught us the value of trusting one's instincts, a lesson that holds weight whether you're crafting a nine-minute mix or a sprawling tribute series like this one.
It's an honor for Party Favorz to pay tribute to Victor Calderone and his invaluable contributions to the world of progressive house music. His legacy is a testament to the transformative power of the genre, and his enduring work continues to inspire both fans and fellow artists alike.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Summer Chill 2016
Friday Jun 24, 2016
Friday Jun 24, 2016
As we move into the heat of summer, I thought we should cool things down a bit with Summer Chill, the latest in the Mixtape series.
Things kick off with Zedd & Aloe Blacc's ode to Willy Wonka's Candyman and totally rewritten lyrics turning it into an uplifting song about peace, love, and unity; something we could ALL use about now. Throw in a little bounce (Los Angeles) and reggae-bump (Jetlag) and the beautifully elegant Finally, you kinda get a feel as to where this set is heading; but then ...
I switch gears to J Paul Getto's Vibe; a song I've been sitting on since March as I knew exactly where I wanted it to appear. I'm not sure what song this samples but the overall feel-good 70's "soul-vibe" is so addictive I can listen to it on repeat all day long and never get sick of it.
Shortly after, we move into Midnight Bumper, which I'd swear is a pumped-up instrumental of Grace Jones' version of La Vie En Rose.
From there we move into some late-night soul tracks, which set the mood for a glass of wine and a few puffs from your peace pipe [grin].
Next up is another feel-good track Bertie Bassett's The Only One, which channels the fantastic 1999 smash Big Love by Pete Heller. Wait for the drop and you'll immediately recognize the vocal sample by Party Favorz' favorite DIVA, Miss Loleatta. I'm a sucker for these samples, but only when it works and this just hits it out of the park.
Truth is, every song included here is a winner but Kevin Karlson and Nelly's Got the Love just feels right as does last year's mega-hit Es Vedra by Gabriel & Castellon.
Oh course, this wouldn't be a proper summertime chill set without the easy-breezy Summertime, originally a hit for Will Smith in the early 90s. I dropped the instrumental house version which just screams summer.
Finally, I bring things to a close with Emapea's Good Old Days, and its heavy early 90's production makes it the perfect closer for this set.
I had so many fantastic songs to work with this go-around, I had to leave several on the floor but have every intention of coming back at the end of August with a Summer Farewell mixtape that will include them plus new favorites.

Gay Anthems for a New Generation 2016 | Modern Gay Pride Anthems
Friday Jun 17, 2016
Friday Jun 17, 2016
As we claw our way toward the end of the week, I thought I'd go ahead and post the final Pride Classics our firstGay Anthems for a New Generation featuring modern gay pride anthems. It's intended to be a bit reflective with a lot of bouncy fun you'd expect from a Pride celebration.
This set draws from future house hits of the past few years (What I Did For Love, Go All Night, I Got U, Real Love, Hustlin') to current hits like the fabulously funky Air Miles by Me & My Toothbrush and the disco hit taken from the HBO series Vinyl, Kill the Lights.
Of course, the big winners here are modern-day bootleg re-edits of Gloria Gaynor's definitive anthem I Will Survive, Diana Ross' proclamation anthem I'm Coming Out to Madonna's everyday celebratory Holiday. Sandwich these with plain ole fun modern twists of Shannon's Let the Music Play, Vicetone's Hawt Stuff (think Donna Summer), 2 B Real (think Cheryl Lynn), Daft Punk's Around the World, and George Michael's Fast Love and you got yourself one big-ass Pride throw-down.
I've got more that didn't make this year's cut so I thought I'd save them for 2017, which is Party Favorz's 10 year anniversary and likely our last but that's for a later discussion.
For now, we don't let the shit news of the week keep us down. Instead, we get LOUDER and PROUDER making our voices heard! IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE with some modern gay pride anthems for a new generation of revelers!
Happy Pride Everybody!

Circuit Anthems & Gay Pride Classics Volume 4

Tuesday Jun 14, 2016
I realize that you folks who live outside of the United States probably think it's the wild west over here and to a certain extent, I wouldn't blame your line of reasoning.
After all, we have a republican congress that denies science, stifles any and all conversation about restricting what types of guns that can be purchased legally all under a misunderstood interpretation of the 2nd Amendment; and openly promote hate, racism, and homophobia under the guise of their pretend god. We have a leading presidential candidate who has seized on all of the above to promote his candidacy for President while the members of his own party run as far away as they can only after it becomes clear many of them will lose their seat because of their affiliation with this ass-clown. (hint: you create it, you own it).
I stand by my original statement in the previous post but will expand it to include ALL religions, not just Islam. Was the slaughter of 49 and injury of 53 innocent people the result of self-loathing homophobia? terrorism? mental illness? I'd say all of the above, but the underlying foundation that propels individuals to harm others is almost ALWAYS religion. In this case, Islam. Whether peaceful as many say or not (I have my serious doubts) the purpose of religion is to control the masses and impose a very narrow and strict belief set of questionable principles on people's lives; principles that the majority of the enforcers don't live by themselves.
To be clear, I'm a pretty open person and accept most people; even Republicans and/or those that seek spiritual solace through religion. What I won't tolerate are folks imposing those views or passing judgment on me. Those that are vocally hostile and judgmental towards others because of some perceived lack of morality are 10 out of 10 times shining a light on their own private bad behavior. From meth-smoking religious leaders hooking up with male prostitutes to "supposed" experts testifying in court against gay parents adopting children and later caught soliciting men on gay escort apps; recent history alone is replete with examples of the outlandish hypocrisy of the morally righteous.
I'm off my soapbox. We have one more set of mixes to go and the final one is nothing short of AWESOME.
Until the next time ...ENJOY!

Circuit Anthems & Gay Pride Classics Volume 2
Friday Jun 10, 2016
Friday Jun 10, 2016
Back on board with part 2 of Circuit Anthems & Pride Classics with a couple of bootlegs from past Pride years. Barry's recent epic re-work of the Jim Steinman classic Total Eclipse of the Heart sung by Bonnie Tyler is so f@cking HUGE, I couldn't help myself. The same could be said about the Chris Cox remix of Christina's Hurt. There is more drama kicking this set off, General Hospital should step aside please.
Hex Hector closes this set out with the fabulous Harem by Sarah Brightman (one of my ALL-TIME favorites). The woman puts on an amazing show and is absolutely mesmerizing in concert. The lush middle eastern treatment Hex spins on the original while making it club-friendly is one of his most notable if not infamous feats in production.
I've got two more of these plus something a bit newer and fresher for the final Pride set going up next week. So if you're feeling these, be sure to be on the lookout.
I'm also putting the finishing touches on the next Mixtape called Summer Chill that I'm so giddy about, it may make an early appearance on this site as opposed to the July 4th holiday release I had planned. Stay tuned for more information on that later.
That's all I got for this cool early summer morning. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and as always ...ENJOY!

Circuit Anthems & Gay Pride Classics Volume 1
Thursday Jun 09, 2016
Thursday Jun 09, 2016
When I made my first Gay Anthems set in 2009, I posted a full write-up on what constitutes a "gay anthem" or "pride classic," that's worth a read. I won't bother writing it up again but it's there if you want to have a good laugh.
For the next four sets, I've flipped the narrative keeping my focus on "circuit anthems," which for the most part touch on all the bases that lift the gay anthem narrative.
The songs are taken from the mid-millennium to present day with a few earlier choice cuts. I tried not to duplicate anything from my previous Pride Classics and Epic Circuit Anthems series but it is possible there may be some overlap.
A lot of the music represented here goes back to the days of Perfect Beat. I don't how many of you remember them, but they were to defacto go to for club music CD maxis. They also tried to set up one of the first online download services. The business model just wasn't there and they lacked the resources necessary to make it work before getting their skirt handed to them by Beatport, Juno, Traxsource and certainly iTunes. Having purchased a ton of music from their online store, I remember them fondly because there are a lot of songs over the next four sets that are taken from those discs.
I'll be dropping part 2 tomorrow and will roll out three more next week before taking a break for the rest of the month. Then in July, we got the Summer Edition, Beach House and who knows what else might bounce out of my head.
It's heating up outside and the weekend is almost here. Until tomorrow ...ENJOY!

The 2016 Catch-Up | The Biggest Dance Hits of the Year So Far!
Friday Jun 03, 2016
Friday Jun 03, 2016
It's that time of year when we reach the mid-point and recap the year's biggest dance hits. The 2016 Catch-Up hits all the high points in EDM and represents a significant change in direction from a genre standpoint. A good majority of the music coming out these days is at a much lower BPM with more house overtones. That's a good thing as it lends to more diversity at radio and especially the club.
Party Favorz has culminated some of dance music's best for 2016 so far (whether they were intended for the dance floor or not) and presents them in one steady groove for your summer enjoyment.
As we all know, June is the gayest time of the year around here. In keeping with tradition, I'll be posting some brand-spanking new Pride sets with epic circuit anthems from years past. I'm also working on what I like to call "gay anthems for a new generation" that's currently tickling my winky. Once finished, I can take the rest of June off and just schedule the release of these new episodes through the rest of the month. I'll give myself a pat on the back for my diligence.
That's all I got for you folks today. I hope ya'll have a fantastic weekend and as always ...ENJOY!

Get Down | Trash Disco Megamix
Friday May 27, 2016
Friday May 27, 2016
True to my anal-self, I got up early this morning to post the latest Trash Disco to make sure everyone's Memorial Day weekend is complete. Then, I started digging around for a replacement mix of Dazz as the version I had was appreciable but the guy who did it was pretty much out of his element.
Then, I stumbled upon Digital Visions who is one of a multitude of devotees to all things re-edits, especially in the Disco realm. How I missed him previously is beyond me because while several of his like-minded rivals range from really bad to fairly decent; he just blows them out of the water LOL. I'll be reaching out to him shortly to work out some sort of deal for use of his work but we'll keep that under wraps. DO check out his SoundCloud page if you're a fan.
Here's a list of the songs that may not immediately stand out to you until you listen to them:

The hardest part involved in making these sets is tracking down the songs; especially songs whose title is flip-opposite of what you would expect. As a result, once you narrow down the genres where you know they're likely to show up at, you listen ...and listen ...and listen until you strike gold and then pick up where you left off.
In fact, that process takes hours to pour through all the potential songs that ultimately make up the Trash Disco series. Fortunately, I am a die-hard disco fanatic who is very studied in the genre and can sniff out the beat in a new recording 30 years after it was originally released, in most cases. Some sampled tunes these days are lifted from really rare releases making it damn near impossible to identify unless I stumble across the original and have an "a-ha" moment (which has happened).
With the exception of the originally titled re-works in the tracklist, here's what else is buried between the grooves should your inquiring mind want to know:
D-I-S-C-O, Funk, and Soul ...it's all represented and I got one more of these heading your way tomorrow just in time to start your Memorial Day weekend.
Until then ...ENJOY!
