Top Dance Songs of 2014 Volume 3
Monday Dec 15, 2014
Monday Dec 15, 2014
The Top Dance Songs for 2014 owes its vibrancy to versatile DJs who redefined original productions with their unique touch. The pivotal role of the DJ in 2014's EDM landscape cannot be understated. These DJs are more than just spinners of records; they're producers, artists, and influencers in their own right.
Foremost among them are EDM stalwarts like Tiesto, Angello + Ingrosso, Avicii, Calvin Harris, and Deadmau5, whose concert spectacles have turned them into multi-million-dollar entities. Newcomers like Martin Garrix with 'Animals' and Duke Dumont with 'I Got U' also made a strong impact, contributing to the Top Dance Songs for 2014.
Major labels propelled young talents like Zedd into the limelight, while producers like Cosmic Dawn and The Chainsmokers became sought after for their commercial appeal. Despite the growing popularity leading to a decrease in output for artists like DJ Laszlo and Danny Verde, their contribution to the Top Dance Songs for 2014 cannot be overlooked.
On the radar for 2015 is Guy Scheiman, whose unique fusion of Circuit Tribal House and progressive EDM has been turning heads. Equally influential is Barry Harris, one-half of Thunderpuss, who has revitalized the circuit-house scene with his innovative approach.
As we look back at the Top Dance Songs for 2014, we must also anticipate the rising trends. House music, for instance, has seen a resurgence, which will be showcased in our upcoming volume dedicated to the biggest house tunes of the year.
Stay tuned, follow the beat, and remember to always...ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2014 Volume 2
Saturday Dec 13, 2014
Saturday Dec 13, 2014
Welcome to the second installment of our annual wrap-up, featuring the Top Dance Songs for 2014. While this year may have felt somewhat subdued in the EDM scene, it was not without its fun dance-craze songs like #Selfie by the Chainsmokers, which followed in the footsteps of previous hits like Eat Sleep Rave Repeat by Fatboy Slim and the Korean breakthrough monster hit Gangnam Style by PSY.
Absent this year were big-name releases from industry giants like Rihanna or Madonna. However, this allowed newcomers like Kiesza to break through with her debut song, Hideaway. The controversial Azealia Banks also made her mark with the critically acclaimed album and song, Chasing Time.
One memorable trend in the Top Dance Songs for 2014 was the celebration of the 'booty.' Meghan Trainor's All About the Bass, Nicki Minaj's Anaconda, and Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea's Booty, all celebrated the body positivity movement.
Beyonce and Ariana Grande were two standout performers this year. Beyonce's surprise album at the end of 2013 remained popular throughout 2014, while Grande emerged as a talented pop artist with a powerful voice, further contributing to the Top Dance Songs for 2014.
Keep an eye out for more in our series as we continue to unpack the highlights of this year in dance music. Stay tuned for surprises, and as always...ENJOY!

Jingle Electric 2K14
Saturday Nov 29, 2014
Saturday Nov 29, 2014
Moving along, I’ve got the annual Jingle Electric 2K14 edition featuring the latest in EDM, Electro-pop, and House …STOP THE PRESSES! Did I just say House? Yup.
While I could have easily loaded this set with big-ass anthems from start to finish, I decided to really shake things up this go around. In fact, this will be the direction I’ll be steering this series in over the coming months. Things are finally changing (for the better) in commercial electronic music, though clearly many of the independent labels and majors haven’t gotten the message but they’re coming around.
In an effort to jump ahead and help prod them along, I concocted a set this go around that better reflects the currents trends and frankly, I’m very pleased with the outcome. I didn’t deprive anyone of big EDM anthems, cause there are some here but I had so many I selectively picked what I thought was the least generic and mixed them in with some slamming house beats. I’m more than confident that folks who follow the EDM series will go down this road with me. If not, then get with the program cause the Pied Piper is leading the charge.
I’ll let this set speak for itself because Party Favorz is on a roll this morning with our Triple Play. So hang tight folks, cause we ain’t done yet!

Saturday Nov 29, 2014
Welcome to the 2K14 Holiday Edition! This is the annual circuit set that’s BIG and TRIBAL with enough heat to keep you fueled during those long wintery workouts.
We’ve got all the current big hits and some that will soon be melting the nation’s dance floors (Ghost, Booty, All About the Bass, In Love Alone, Turn It Up, Love Come Home and Dipped in Ecstacy); Circuit and house classics re-worked for today’s clubbers (100% Pure Love, Everyday, Total Eclipse of the Heart and All Around the World) plus the return of Ricky Martin (Adios) and Erasure (Reason) and even a cheesy little re-work of ABBA’s disco classic Voulez Vouz.
I especially want to give praise to XELLE, the girl group out of New York that is part Spice Girls, part Ke$ha and part ABBA all rolled into one sugary electro-pop confection that is more fun than sitting at home on a Saturday night playing with your winky.
As promised, we’ve got a lot of updates today, so hold tight because there are more heading your way!

The House Sessions | December 2K14
Friday Nov 28, 2014
Friday Nov 28, 2014
Previously, I had stated that November’s set was the final funky house edition for the year but I was wrong. I had so many great songs that didn’t make the cut, I couldn’t just leave them on the floor like unused parts of a carcass in a slaughterhouse that is scooped up with all the rat excrement and later compressed into some unknown victual commonly known as Spam. So I had to figure out some way to pull them together and serve it as a first-class meal.
Fortunately, there was a slew of great tunes still hitting the floor after that set came out and once worked in with my leftovers, we got the House Sessions December 2K14. Don’t worry, this has all the vitamins and minerals you need to sustain a healthy lifestyle; no fillers here.
This set is all about Deep House with a little funky and soul mixed in to round it out. It’s deep and delicious like Godiva dark chocolate and a hot cup of cocoa. Perfect for those long cold nights when you just want to unwind and forget about all the madness that is the holidays.
WAIT! I ain’t even done yet. I got one more set going up to get ya’ll in the mood for the holidays. Give me a sec and I’ll be right back!

Lana Del Rey | The Diva Series
Thursday Nov 27, 2014
Thursday Nov 27, 2014
With only three albums under her belt, Lana Del Rey has become what appears to be an overnight sensation but is far from it. With her deep and alluring vocals and very personal lyrics to her classic beauty, Lana Del Rey (Elizabeth Woolridge Grant) is the antithesis of modern-day feminism because she owns it. She’s speaking from her own life experience and for no one else.
With issues lacking in self-love and importance, her lyrics reflect a hardened bad-girl exterior with an inner insecurity, which leads her to make bad decisions and seek reaffirmation from men who are equally if not more broken. One of my favorite songs off of her latest album is the title track Ultraviolence. To be certain, the lyrics are stark, disturbing, and reflect a woman caught in an abusive relationship resembling Stockholm syndrome. Far from glorifying the abuse, the song gives credence to what we as a society are already aware of but too often fail to intercede.
Perhaps one of the greatest reasons for Lana’s massive appeal is the nihilistic lyrics sung in an unforgettable low register are relatable.
At this point, you may be asking yourself “so why are you inducting her into the Diva Hall of Fame?” Quite simply, her appeal is wider than last year’s massive EDM smash Summertime Blues and speaks to a greater audience like no one else currently in popular music. Her lyrics are often open to interpretation and can take on a different meaning than their actual intent, especially when given a remix treatment in a variety of electronic styles (reflected in this set).
If there is one song that I have a personal affinity for, it’s Ride; not for the straight-up interpretation of seeking solace in other people and alcohol while on the road but my attachment as it pertains to my life. It’s also a song I could easily hear Stevie Nicks singing (another personal favorite of mine) and someone Lana has been compared to, amongst others. Likewise, I could hear Lana delivering her own interpretation of Edge of Seventeen.
It’s Lana’s style, her poise, her lyrics, and her mesmerizing vocals that qualify her for this honor. Besides, we gays get a hard-on for Lana every time she puts out something new, and that alone makes her induction all the more pertinent.
Ladies and gentlemen …please welcome Miss Lana Del Ray!

Gwen Stefani | The Diva Series
Saturday Nov 22, 2014
Saturday Nov 22, 2014
With her recent stint as a guest judge on The Voice, a new single (Baby Don’t Lie), and another with Calvin Harris (Together), I decided Gwen Stefani's induction into the Diva Hall of Fame was long overdue. After forming in 1986 with two albums and rotating members, No Doubt (with Gwen on lead vocals) came to fame with their third album Tragic Kingdom nine years later. Propelled by two hit singles “Just a Girl” and “Spiderwebs” it put No Doubt on the map. It wasn’t until the third single “Don’t Speak” a song about the breakup between Gwen and band member Tony Kanal that the group was propelled into superstardom.
The accompanying tongue-in-cheek video was beautifully shot and displayed the kind of tensions that only the media could dream up; that is the main focus on Gwen with the band members relegated to the background. On the contrary, Gwen stayed true to her band as this was a long journey to success for all members, not just herself.
By 2004, the band released a greatest hits album and went on hiatus. During this period, Gwen released two solo albums Love. Angel. Music. Baby and The Sweet Escape produced multiple top 40 singles and the number one hit Hollaback Girl.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgjkth6BRRY
While No Doubt nor Gwen was known for their remixes, there were some official ones released by Interscope Records. However, it is the bootlegs of their hits that make up the bulk of this set. With her all-American good looks, winning smile, and sunny personality, Gwen's induction is not only a given but well-deserved.
Let’s face it, the gays adore her, I love her and frankly, I have the only deciding vote LOL. It’s for all these reasons and more that Party Favorz honors Mrs. Stefani with an official induction into the Diva Hall of Fame. XO

Barbara Tucker: The Resilient Queen of House Music — The Diva Series
Friday Nov 21, 2014
Friday Nov 21, 2014
When you talk about the luminaries in the realm of house music, Barbara Tucker is an irrefutable icon. With a staggering number of #1 house hits, she's undeniably the crown jewel of this vivacious genre. This post is a reverential nod to her enduring influence, taking you through a catalog that has both blazed trails and left an indelible mark on house music.
Barbara Tucker's journey is studded with milestones. One of her earliest hits that etched her name in the scene was "Beautiful People." The breakthrough hit is more than just a track; it's a rousing call to the dance floor that encapsulates the essence of the '90s house era. Tucker continued to ascend the house hierarchy with "One," a collaborative effort with Peter Luts. This original piece seamlessly marries vocals and beats, serving as another testament to her versatility.
Not one to be pigeonholed, Tucker joined forces with Timmy Vegas for "Dutty Funk," graced by an Audiowhores Mix that highlights her soulful vocal timbre. This speaks volumes about her innate ability to adapt and flourish in diverse musical landscapes. Even when she stepped into mainstream pop culture, teaming up with David Guetta for "Give Me Something," Tucker remained true to her roots, adding her unmistakable flair to the Extended Mix.
Barbara Tucker's influence isn't merely confined to originals. Her version of Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," remixed by The Cube Guys, breathes new life into a classic, adding that house texture we've come to expect from her. "You Want Me Back" with its Philly Mix, "Stop Playing With My Mind" featuring Darryl D'Bonneau in a Full Intention Club Mix, and "Feelin' Like A Superstar" spiced up by a Josh Harris Club Mix are just a few gems in a sprawling oeuvre.
Her accolades don't end here. Tucker's versatile voice also resonates in the realm of remixes. Songs like "Love's On Time," is an epic anthem in the creative hands Junior Vasquez, or "One Desire," revamped by Quentin Harris, showcase her musical dynamism. For someone who's been in the industry for decades, Tucker is a tour de force, constantly reinventing herself while keeping her essence intact.
It's been eight years since Barbara Tucker was inducted into the Diva Hall of Fame, and today, we welcome her back. This Diva Series redux edition is a comprehensive sonic journal of her work, spanning classics and recent hits alike. With a total runtime of just over 2 hours, it promises a musical voyage that only a legend like Barbara Tucker can offer. It's with great respect, love and admiration that Party Favorz gives Miss Tucker a proper induction into the Diva Hall of Fame.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

00s House Music Classics Volume 6: Movin’ Too Fast
Thursday Nov 20, 2014
Thursday Nov 20, 2014
Step into the crescendo of our 00s House Music Classics series with "Movin' Too Fast," a meticulously assembled podcast that pays homage to the groundbreaking house anthems that defined the early millennium. In this sixth and final installment, we leave no stone unturned, spotlighting every shimmering gem that contributed to the genre's evolution.
The podcast opens with Spiller's "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)," a track that became synonymous with the dawn of a new house music era. The Extended Vocal Mix, in particular, laid the groundwork for many vocal-centric tracks that followed.
Bob Marley's "Sun Is Shining" gets a modern twist, thanks to Funkstar De Luxe's Rainbow Mix. This rendition transforms a reggae classic into a pulsating house masterpiece, infusing a new layer of auditory richness to the original composition.
Artful Dodger's "Movin Too Fast," featuring Romina Johnson, is a garage House song that balances melodic piano riffs with sultry vocals, encapsulating the distinct British 2-step sound that dominated the era.
It's impossible to ignore Todd Terry Allstars' "Get Down," featuring Tara McDonald. Warren Clarke's Club Mix of this track serves as an anthem for dancers who live for the uplifting, rhythmic pulse of house music.
And let's not forget Aaron Smith's "Dancin'," featuring Luvli. The JJ Flores & Steve Smooth Remix takes us on an exhilarating journey through lush synths and hypnotic beats, proving that house music isn't just about the sound—it's about the emotional lift it provides.
Coming soon, we have the re-induction of Miss Barbara Tucker into our Diva Hall of Fame. But for now, immerse yourself in this lush landscape of 00s house brilliance.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

The House Sessions | November 2014
Friday Nov 14, 2014
Friday Nov 14, 2014
Party Favorz is proud to present to final House Sessions set of 2014 and as Loleatta once said “let me tell ya” this thing wreaks of a 1,000 sweaty bodies crammed into a warehouse rubbing and gyrating under the glow of a sparkling disco ball at 3 AM in the morning. In short, I turned this MOTHERFUCKER OUT!
We start out nice and sweet with the early 80s throwback SO IN LOVE by Adri Block, which channels the fabulous Evelyn King. From there, it continues to pick up steam until BAM! You hit a brick wall the moment you run into SAY YES by Two Kings feat. the Queen. This shit is like the Staple Sisters went to house heaven and sprinkled disco dust on all the believers down below.
No strangers to the scene, Two Kings consist of the legendary Jamie Lewis, who frankly needs no introduction and Fabulous Keys another veteran stalwart that you may be more familiar with the folks he’s worked with (Chaka Khan, Sheila E., James Brown) than the actual man himself. Throw into this mix Swiss made soul singer TANJA DANKNER and you got yourself a recipe that even Julia Child couldn’t have concocted.
If this song is any indication of how well they work together, Party Favorz is EAGERLY awaiting their album SAY YES to drop in early January, which will include a solid mixture of chill grooves, deep house, and funky house music.
Another favorite veteran around here is the incredible Mark Picchiotti who is introducing us to Chicago’s Rufus Proffit. SHELTER takes us back to the 70s while Marks keeps the beats centered around funky house bliss and Rufus delivers a deliciously soulful vocal that harkens back to another place and time. Those that know me also know that besides being a dedicated house-head, I am a HUGE 70s soul, disco, and funk fan and my encyclopedic brain’s endorphins go into overdrive when I hear something as sweet and funky as SHELTER. Trust.
This leads me to the 70s disco classic SPANK by Ron Louis Smith. Originally performed by Jimmy “Bo” Horne back in the day, Ron actually wrote the song and brings it back to us with his vocals in what can only be described as PURE FUNK. While Jimmy’s excellent version had that classic “Sunshine” sound, Ron casts it in the era in which it was originally written. This is definitely a get up off your ass floor stomper!
Jay Vegas is back with another winner in LUV DRUG with its infectious funky house beats and what appears to be a Loleatta Holloway monologue asking folks “is there anybody out there that has been with someone and wishes they were with someone else.” I’m convinced this IS her because this is so classic Loleatta. Jay takes this monologue and wraps it around pure house bliss adding another gold star to his burgeoning catalog.
The House Sessions wouldn’t be true to itself if I didn’t include two re-worked 90s house classics. So, I worked in Ruffneck and Yavahn’s EVERYBODY BE SOMEBODY and the Nightcrawlers PUSH THE FEELING ON, which have been updated for today’s floors. Now, folks, I don’t care how you bend it, stretch it or tweak it, cause you ain’t NEVER gonna break it. These songs are as good now as when they were originally being served up back in the day.
Another goto song at the moment is the super deep and funky GO ALL NIGHT by Gorgan City and the always fabulous Jennifer Hudson. This song IS THE SHIT and one of two Jennifer has out at the moment. Watch out of the fabulous Freemason’s mix of this song as well. Clearly getting a big push by Gorgan City’s label, I fully expect even bigger things for this song.
I wanted to close the set out with Kiesza’s latest NO ENEMIES, but the full-length remixes aren’t scheduled for release until November 24th so we’ll just have to settle for the MASSIVE Jax Jones rework of Duke Dumont’s WON’T LOOK BACK. I know, I know violins, please. It’s like, okay twist my arm, I’ll drop it in (as if I needed any coercion) LOL.
That’s what I got going on for your weekend.
