EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

Beyoncé 2.0 | The Diva Series
Friday May 16, 2014
Friday May 16, 2014
Kicking off your weekend with a BANG with the second induction into the Diva Hall of Fame featuring the super-fab Mrs. Carter, otherwise known as Beyoncé or just plain ole Bey if you're nasty. Oh wait, that was another diva, never mind.
With all the brouhaha over her baby sister Solange going mental on Jay-Z, this set will be a nice little distraction from what frankly ain’t none of your damn business. Speculate all you want as to what was going on in the elevator, but B played the proper diva and stood there composed (likely because she knows Big Brother is watching). Welcome to the world we live in, where everybody is up in your shit with cameras, smartphones, Google Earth, and Google glass.
This set covers a wide swath of genres, which is NOT the easiest thing in the world to do. It’s been a work in progress all year long and with the release of some solid remixes from her self-titled release (trust me, those were hard to come by), I was finally able to put this together and make it WORK! Two snaps and a twirl for me.
Not unlike Madonna or Mariah, Beyonce has become a veritable industry in and of herself. From marketing to imagery and everything that bears her name in between, the woman is working her assets off!
No doubt some good folks got stepped on along the way (see my write-up on Diana) but when you don’t want IT enough, you’re bound to get shoved to the side. Just sayin'.
I realize you folks are about Diva-ed out and I’m in the process of moving download links over to the new site along with streaming players. So expect something new next week, just in time for your Memorial Day weekend celebrations and beyond.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

The Loleatta Holloway Dance Music Tribute: Celebrating an Icon
Friday May 16, 2014
Friday May 16, 2014
Dominant. Revered. RESPECTED. When you talk about Loleatta Holloway, these are some of the adjectives used when people discuss her legacy. Never duplicated but often imitated and ad nauseam. Considered the Queen of Salsoul in the mid-70s and early 80s, Loleatta Holloway has had more DJs sample her music than any other artist in modern history.
Well known for her ad-lib prowess during recording sessions, Miss Holloway would get on a roll during the drop and just keep going and going. It was fitting that Gold Mine (a subsidiary of Salsoul Records) included the full eleven-minute version of Hit and Run on her third album, where at the end you hear the producer say “okay, now let’s do the album version.”
By themselves, Love Sensation and Dreamin' are classic songs permanently etched into the annals of disco history. Picked apart, these songs have provided some of the most memorable recreations of entirely new dance floor mayhem from the 90s through today. Love Sensation has gone on to be the most sampled song in the last 30 years, further proving its singular importance to the genre which propelled it to the top of the charts.
In 1991, producer Dan Hartman (Relight My Fire; Love Sensation) and Loleatta sued UK act Black Box for using her vocals without permission on their worldwide hit Ride On Time. They ultimately settled for an undisclosed amount and Miss Holloway was given full credit on subsequent pressings of the album.
Despite considering herself a ballad singer (Cry To Me; Worn Out Broken Heart) there is no doubt about the important role Miss Holloway played in the disco genre, which ultimately bled into 90s house music. For a thorough recount of Loleatta Holloway's life history, avoid the rather lame Wikipedia entry about her life and jump on over to the excellent biography from the UK’s Guardian newspaper.
Borrowing from the saying “there is more than one way to skin a cat,” there is no doubt Miss Holloway will continue to pop up in deliciously new dance floor incarnations from time to time. This is a true testament to her Diva stature. We here at Party Favorz not only worships this woman but honor her memory.

Nadia Ali | The Diva Series
Saturday May 10, 2014
Saturday May 10, 2014
In 2001, Nadia Ali was the frontwoman and principal songwriter for the duo Iio (pronounced “eye-oh”), who took the world by storm with their international smash Rapture. They released a series of singles culminating in the release of a full album titled Poetica, in 2005. That same year, Nadia left the group to pursue a solo career.
Nadia is notable for her distinct vocals with a middle-eastern tinge despite growing up in Brooklyn. Her first album saw four singles released with the second Love Story topping the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.
Since that time, Nadia has collaborated with some of the biggest DJs in the world and has virtually ensured her position as the Queen of Electronica.
While some of the company she’ll be holding ground with may make an exception to the title of “Queen of Anything,” (watch your back with Miss Ross), there is no denying her status as the Diva of Electronica.
Party Favorz would like to honor Miss Ali by inducting her into the Diva Hall of Fame. Nadia is currently working on a second album titled Phoenix and in all likelihood be inducted again at a future date.
Attention, if you have no clue who she is, download this puppy, hit play, and turn it LOUD! I promise you’ll quickly become a convert.

Diana Ross | The Diva Series
Thursday May 08, 2014
Thursday May 08, 2014
This is Diana Ross’ fifth induction into the Diva Hall of Fame. There is no rhyme nor reason why she keeps being inducted other than I was trying to put together a set that was more cohesive and concise without any filler. If Cher can have multiple Farewell Farewell tours (no, this time I really mean it LOL), why can’t Diana keep being re-inducted?
I believe I have finally achieved the goal I set out to achieve with this set. Then again, with all the new inductees, Diana always wants to make sure the other bitches stay in line and prove her authority over the newbies' LOL. Ahh yes, Diana is a Diva for all times.
We all know the story about the Supremes, then Diana Ross & the Supremes, and then just Diana. It’s a familiar story re-told in the Broadway classic Dreamgirls. Fittingly, the show was re-cast into a box office movie starring Beyoncé (of Destiny’s Child fame), whose career eerily resembles the very same storyline of the Supremes.
Hey, I’m not here to cast dispersions on our favorite gals but Divas will be Divas and someone is always gonna come out on top. Pick your poison, but the Diva who screams the loudest and has the longest nails WINS!
Speaking of Beyoncé, I’ve got a shit-banger waiting in the wings for her latest induction, and folks this thing is gonna blow your socks off! However, I’m saving that one for the grand re-opening of Party Favorz coming out soon. Be sure to stay tuned.
In the interim, this final, FINAL Diana induction is a ball full of fun and you’re guaranteed to have a gay ole time.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Backspin Volume 5 [The Cheese Mix] | 90’s Eurodance Megamix
Monday May 05, 2014
Monday May 05, 2014
As promised, I’m serving up a whole plate full of cheese this week. While last week’s Eurodance set focused primarily on a single genre in dance, The Cheese Mix covers an entire spectrum from the late 80s to 2001. Unless you were living in a cave during this period, you’ll likely instantly recognize all the songs and quickly realize it just works.
While I wouldn’t consider all the songs in this set cheesy, because some are timeless classics, there is enough dairy spread around here that after one listen, you may want to limit your daily intake LOL.
Ultimately, this set is meant to be nothing more than good ole plain fun. In fact, I’ve got enough leftovers to create one more of this focusing on the same period. Look for that in the near future.
If you haven’t read my post yet about the current status of Party Favorz, please take the time to do so. I could really use some feedback about accessing the site, load times, appearance and navigation so I can fix any issues that are not apparent to me.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a treat to close out the week. Until then …ENJOY!

It’s time to go back, way back …back in time. Okay, not all that far back but it feels like an eternity. Yes, folks, I’m talking about the 90's!
The 1990's were kind of a lost era, at least for me. The whole alternative music scene exploded as did grunge. House music had made significant inroads in the early part of the decade, but that was quickly supplanted by Trance and those spontaneous FUBARs called RAVEs. Ultimately, the legal grind caught on and started busting up these parties, which is when it moved above ground and became a massive money-making cluster-fuck for the investors.
Out of all this spurred the late 90's phenomenon called Euro-dance. These were hyper-fast BPM's, with sweet vocals, catchy as hell lyrics and the occasional obligatory really bad rap in the middle.
Over the course of the next two sets, I’ve collected some of the best of Euro-dance and sprinkled it with a couple of massive house hits (more so on v5) to loosen things up a bit.
For what it’s worth, these dance hits are part of our musical history. So don’t be ashamed if you still enjoy these sugar-coated synth concoctions. load these on to your phone, jump in the car and play this shit loud enough for the world to hear! Yeah, I like 90's Euro-dance …whatcha gonna do about it? ENJOY!

The House Sessions [April 2014]
Sunday Apr 20, 2014
Sunday Apr 20, 2014
It’s time for some funky, disco, house shit with the April edition of The House Sessions! I know I’m running quite a bit late today but I had a lot of work to do on the new site.
First, I wanna wish everybody a happy Easter! I hope everybody got up this morning and put on their best Easter Bonnet and hunted down some eggs [clears throat].
This is quite possibly been the nicest day in over a week around here and I’ve been inside slaving away for you folks. Ahh, the things I do for you LOL. Oh well, still gotta go out and spray away all the pollen off the patio right after this and then I can head over to the pool, pop open a cold one and chill for the rest of the day, at least until Game of Thrones comes on.
This set is for those folks that need some sunshine NOW! I know I was one of them this past week. I think I’ll finally be rolling out those Back Spins I’ve been promising all year next week.
Until then …ENJOY!

The EDM Sessions [April 2014]
Thursday Apr 17, 2014
Thursday Apr 17, 2014
As many of you may have noticed, Party Favorz is currently down, while I work on the new build but as promised that ain’t stopping me from posting.
As predicted in my year-end Capsule Edition, everybody is trying to score with an EDM anthem and frankly, it’s getting tired already.
Most of the songs are decent but when it fills up an entire 80+ minutes of a set, something has to give.
For the most part, the whole scene is definitely peaking at the moment. Hopefully some new up and comers challenge the status quo. In the interim, I broke this puppy up with some harder edges (but not so hard you have to scratch your head and ask what the hell you’re listening to LOL).
The end result is a solid mix of the best in commercial and underground EDM right now. I hope you can appreciate the direction I’m taking this cause that’s where it’s heading until things turn around.
This is the second solid spring day in the ATL and I hope all is well where ever you may be in the world. Next week I’ve got a slamming House Sessions going up, which may come early in the week as I’m itching to get that bad boy up.
Until then …ENJOY!

Frankie Knuckles House Music Tribute Volume 2
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
The resonance of Frankie Knuckles' influence on the house music scene reverberates like the pulsing beats he expertly mixed. Recognized as the "Godfather of House Music," Frankie Knuckles wasn't just a DJ or a producer; he was a trailblazer whose influence transcended generations. As we continue our tribute to this monumental figure in Volume 2, we take a deeper look into the songs and collaborations that further solidified his legendary status.
When you listen to Lisa Stansfield's "Change," remixed by Frankie Knuckles, you're not just hearing a song; you're experiencing an emotional tapestry woven through the deft hands of a master. Knuckles had an uncanny ability to elevate any track he touched, turning them into instant classics. His remix of "Change" is a testament to this knack, making it an unforgettable part of his illustrious portfolio.
Arguably one of his most iconic collaborations came with vocal powerhouse Adeva on "Whadda U Want (From Me)." This track encapsulates what Frankie Knuckles was all about—melding powerful vocals with a beat that keeps you glued to the dance floor. His artistry made the song a standard in house music, symbolizing the epitome of what the genre could offer.
The magic continued with "Your Love," a Frankie Knuckles presentation as part of the Directors Cut featuring Jamie Principle. This track wasn't just a song; it was an anthem, a timeless piece that embodied the essence of house music. When that beat drops, you're not just dancing; you're part of a communal experience that only Knuckles could create.
Speaking of unforgettable experiences, who could ignore his reinterpretation of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart"? Frankie Knuckles transformed this soulful ballad into a dance-floor anthem, adding another layer of emotion and energy without compromising the song’s original sentiment.
In collaboration with Eric Kupper, Frankie Knuckles brought to life Candi Staton's "Hallelujah Anyway." The duo provided a spiritual and uplifting dimension to the track, making it not just a song but an emotionally charged hymn that elevates the soul while making your feet move uncontrollably.
The depth and breadth of Frankie Knuckles' work are awe-inspiring. From his groundbreaking tracks to his unforgettable collaborations, he created a sonic universe that remains unmatched. As we explore these songs in Volume 2 of our Frankie Knuckles tribute, we come to realize that his impact on house music—and music at large—is immeasurable. His creations are not just songs; they are the cultural fabric of an era and beyond.
Frankie Knuckles may no longer be with us, but through his music, he achieved immortality. His tracks continue to move us, his influence ever-present in the house music landscape.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Frankie Knuckles House Music Tribute Volume 1
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
Navigating through the storied tapestry of house music, you'll undoubtedly come across the seminal influence of Frankie Knuckles, often lauded as the "Godfather of House Music." While the origins of house can be debated, there's no questioning Frankie Knuckles' everlasting impact on the genre. His legacy resonates not only through the historical corridors of house but also on contemporary dance floors worldwide.
Frankie Knuckles was in the same league as other iconic figures like Shep Pettibone, Lil Louis, Masters at Work (MAW), Todd Terry, David Morales, and Junior Vasquez. These artists collectively laid the foundation for what we know as house music today. However, Frankie stood out for his particular touch—akin to how bees intricately create honey—devising sonic experiences that were both deeply emotive and irresistibly danceable.
One simply cannot discuss Frankie Knuckles without mentioning the cornerstone tracks that define his career. For instance, his treatment of Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" infuses the classic with an even more infectious groove. Similarly, his take on Diana Ross's "Love Hangover" is a timeless reinterpretation that uplifts the original while honoring its essence. He's also responsible for dance floor anthems like "The Pressure [Part 1]" by Sounds of Blackness and his own landmark tracks like "The Whistle Song," which he crafted as part of the Director's Cut project.

Knuckles was not merely a remixer; he was an alchemist of sound, altering the base elements of existing works to create something entirely new. His collaboration with Satoshi Tomiie on "Tears" is a perfect example of this, as is his involvement in The Shapeshifters' "Back to Basics," where he partnered with Eric Kupper under the Director’s Cut banner.
A plethora of tribute sets already exists, each aiming to honor Frankie Knuckles and his monumental contribution to dance music. Adding my own tribute mix to this growing list is the least I can do to celebrate a man who brought so much joy and innovation to the genre. As we remember Frankie Knuckles, the irreplaceable godfather of house, we can only hope that he's still spinning records in that grand celestial club, awaiting the day we can all join him on the dance floor.
And so, the music plays on. Rest in peace, Frankie Knuckles.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Jennifer Holliday | The Diva Series
Monday Mar 31, 2014
Monday Mar 31, 2014
Brace yourselves because the vocal powerhouse Jennifer Holliday is storming into our Diva Hall of Fame, and trust me, you don't want to miss this seismic event! This lady's voice is larger than life; it’s an entity of its own that fills every room and touches every heart.
For those who haven't been graced by her towering talent, let's just say Jennifer isn’t your typical, garden-variety diva. Nope, she’s a multi-faceted gem, lighting up stages from Broadway to the club scene. Sure, she underwent a dramatic weight loss journey, but let’s get something straight—this diva’s vocal cords never lost an ounce. She could be big, small, or in-between, but that voice remains her grandest feature.
Remember when she scorched the stage with “And I’m Telling You, I’m Not Going” in Dreamgirls? Just the Rosabel remix alone has burned more calories on the dance floor than a Jane Fonda workout tape! Then there's "Think It Over," remixed into the Thunderpuss, becoming a dance-floor manifesto for all the "you-go-girl" moments in life.

But let's not overlook "No Frills Love." With Tony Moran's Anthem Mix, this track proves that Jennifer’s got the power to make us move, groove, and believe in the spirit of the dance. And let’s be real, her rendition of “A Woman's Got The Power” leaves no room for argument.
If you've heard her on Ally McBeal, you'd know that her soothing voice could practically serve as your personal life coach.
So let's give it up for the Diva who doesn’t just tell us she’s not going, she compels us to stand, cheer, and dance. It’s high time Jennifer Holliday got her moment in our Diva Hall of Fame. Step aside everyone, a true queen is taking her rightful throne.
Until the next time... ENJOY!

Spring Edition 2014

Sunday Mar 30, 2014
Welcome to the 2014 Spring Edition! While it may still be a bit nippy in certain parts of the country or world for that matter, other areas are already getting the weather that represents our favorite time of the year …SPRING BABY!
Yes, it’s time to start shedding some of those layers of clothes and in a few months, we’ll have them all off of you [grin].
Jam-packed with some of the hottest tribal-electric, progressive and silly fun-house at the moment, this should get ya’ll in the mood to head back to the gym and WERQ it out for the Summer months [see paragraph above].
We still have two more Diva entries to go before I launch the April EDM Sessions. With the WMC over and new material dropping every day, this should be a slamming set.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. It looks to be an awesome day today in the ATL; sadly I’m still under the weather and won’t be out to enjoy it.
I’ll be back with something new before you can get off two snaps. ENJOY!
