Frankie Knuckles House Music Tribute Volume 2
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
The resonance of Frankie Knuckles' influence on the house music scene reverberates like the pulsing beats he expertly mixed. Recognized as the "Godfather of House Music," Frankie Knuckles wasn't just a DJ or a producer; he was a trailblazer whose influence transcended generations. As we continue our tribute to this monumental figure in Volume 2, we take a deeper look into the songs and collaborations that further solidified his legendary status.
When you listen to Lisa Stansfield's "Change," remixed by Frankie Knuckles, you're not just hearing a song; you're experiencing an emotional tapestry woven through the deft hands of a master. Knuckles had an uncanny ability to elevate any track he touched, turning them into instant classics. His remix of "Change" is a testament to this knack, making it an unforgettable part of his illustrious portfolio.
Arguably one of his most iconic collaborations came with vocal powerhouse Adeva on "Whadda U Want (From Me)." This track encapsulates what Frankie Knuckles was all about—melding powerful vocals with a beat that keeps you glued to the dance floor. His artistry made the song a standard in house music, symbolizing the epitome of what the genre could offer.
The magic continued with "Your Love," a Frankie Knuckles presentation as part of the Directors Cut featuring Jamie Principle. This track wasn't just a song; it was an anthem, a timeless piece that embodied the essence of house music. When that beat drops, you're not just dancing; you're part of a communal experience that only Knuckles could create.
Speaking of unforgettable experiences, who could ignore his reinterpretation of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart"? Frankie Knuckles transformed this soulful ballad into a dance-floor anthem, adding another layer of emotion and energy without compromising the song’s original sentiment.
In collaboration with Eric Kupper, Frankie Knuckles brought to life Candi Staton's "Hallelujah Anyway." The duo provided a spiritual and uplifting dimension to the track, making it not just a song but an emotionally charged hymn that elevates the soul while making your feet move uncontrollably.
The depth and breadth of Frankie Knuckles' work are awe-inspiring. From his groundbreaking tracks to his unforgettable collaborations, he created a sonic universe that remains unmatched. As we explore these songs in Volume 2 of our Frankie Knuckles tribute, we come to realize that his impact on house music—and music at large—is immeasurable. His creations are not just songs; they are the cultural fabric of an era and beyond.
Frankie Knuckles may no longer be with us, but through his music, he achieved immortality. His tracks continue to move us, his influence ever-present in the house music landscape.

Frankie Knuckles House Music Tribute Volume 1
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
Thursday Apr 03, 2014
Navigating through the storied tapestry of house music, you'll undoubtedly come across the seminal influence of Frankie Knuckles, often lauded as the "Godfather of House Music." While the origins of house can be debated, there's no questioning Frankie Knuckles' everlasting impact on the genre. His legacy resonates not only through the historical corridors of house but also on contemporary dance floors worldwide.
Frankie Knuckles was in the same league as other iconic figures like Shep Pettibone, Lil Louis, Masters at Work (MAW), Todd Terry, David Morales, and Junior Vasquez. These artists collectively laid the foundation for what we know as house music today. However, Frankie stood out for his particular touch—akin to how bees intricately create honey—devising sonic experiences that were both deeply emotive and irresistibly danceable.
One simply cannot discuss Frankie Knuckles without mentioning the cornerstone tracks that define his career. For instance, his treatment of Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" infuses the classic with an even more infectious groove. Similarly, his take on Diana Ross's "Love Hangover" is a timeless reinterpretation that uplifts the original while honoring its essence. He's also responsible for dance floor anthems like "The Pressure [Part 1]" by Sounds of Blackness and his own landmark tracks like "The Whistle Song," which he crafted as part of the Director's Cut project.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIdimVDuSEU
Knuckles was not merely a remixer; he was an alchemist of sound, altering the base elements of existing works to create something entirely new. His collaboration with Satoshi Tomiie on "Tears" is a perfect example of this, as is his involvement in The Shapeshifters' "Back to Basics," where he partnered with Eric Kupper under the Director’s Cut banner.
A plethora of tribute sets already exists, each aiming to honor Frankie Knuckles and his monumental contribution to dance music. Adding my own tribute mix to this growing list is the least I can do to celebrate a man who brought so much joy and innovation to the genre. As we remember Frankie Knuckles, the irreplaceable godfather of house, we can only hope that he's still spinning records in that grand celestial club, awaiting the day we can all join him on the dance floor.
And so, the music plays on. Rest in peace, Frankie Knuckles.

Jennifer Holliday | The Diva Series
Monday Mar 31, 2014
Monday Mar 31, 2014
Brace yourselves because the vocal powerhouse Jennifer Holliday is storming into our Diva Hall of Fame, and trust me, you don't want to miss this seismic event! This lady's voice is larger than life; it’s an entity of its own that fills every room and touches every heart.
For those who haven't been graced by her towering talent, let's just say Jennifer isn’t your typical, garden-variety diva. Nope, she’s a multi-faceted gem, lighting up stages from Broadway to the club scene. Sure, she underwent a dramatic weight loss journey, but let’s get something straight—this diva’s vocal cords never lost an ounce. She could be big, small, or in-between, but that voice remains her grandest feature.
Remember when she scorched the stage with “And I’m Telling You, I’m Not Going” in Dreamgirls? Just the Rosabel remix alone has burned more calories on the dance floor than a Jane Fonda workout tape! Then there's "Think It Over," remixed into the Thunderpuss, becoming a dance-floor manifesto for all the "you-go-girl" moments in life.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-yGQ8plimc
But let's not overlook "No Frills Love." With Tony Moran's Anthem Mix, this track proves that Jennifer’s got the power to make us move, groove, and believe in the spirit of the dance. And let’s be real, her rendition of “A Woman's Got The Power” leaves no room for argument.
If you've heard her on Ally McBeal, you'd know that her soothing voice could practically serve as your personal life coach.
So let's give it up for the Diva who doesn’t just tell us she’s not going, she compels us to stand, cheer, and dance. It’s high time Jennifer Holliday got her moment in our Diva Hall of Fame. Step aside everyone, a true queen is taking her rightful throne.

Sunday Mar 30, 2014
Welcome to the 2014 Spring Edition! While it may still be a bit nippy in certain parts of the country or world for that matter, other areas are already getting the weather that represents our favorite time of the year …SPRING BABY!
Yes, it’s time to start shedding some of those layers of clothes and in a few months, we’ll have them all off of you [grin].
Jam-packed with some of the hottest tribal-electric, progressive and silly fun-house at the moment, this should get ya’ll in the mood to head back to the gym and WERQ it out for the Summer months [see paragraph above].
We still have two more Diva entries to go before I launch the April EDM Sessions. With the WMC over and new material dropping every day, this should be a slamming set.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. It looks to be an awesome day today in the ATL; sadly I’m still under the weather and won’t be out to enjoy it.
I’ll be back with something new before you can get off two snaps. ENJOY!

Celine Dion | The Diva Series
Saturday Mar 29, 2014
Saturday Mar 29, 2014
Celine Dion—the vocal powerhouse of our era and the Diva Hall of Fame's newest inductee. Drawing parallels to the legendary Barbra Streisand, Celine's dynamic vocal range is the perfect marriage of heartfelt emotion and whispery elegance, all wrapped up in one spellbinding package.
Her crossover from French crooner to English-speaking pop diva in the early '90s was nothing short of meteoric. Since then, she's been a global sensation, captivating us with hit after hit. But let's focus on the dance floor gems that have gotten Party Favorz audiences on their feet, shall we?
Celine's iconic "My Heart Will Go On," with the legendary Tony Moran at the remix helm, transcends its reputation as a movie theme song. It transforms into a big room tribal anthem masterpiece that takes your heart on a journey, from the DJ booth to the edge of the dance floor. The beats pound like a heart in love, pulling us into a dance trance we never want to escape from.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14h3YhPhvlo
And if you thought that was exhilarating, wait till you hear Hex Hector's remix of "I Drove All Night." This track is a revved-up anthem that has Celine's vocals cruising at top speeds, igniting every inch of the dance space. Who knew a song about a long drive to have sex with the one you love could take us on such a euphoric dance floor ride?
In a world full of music, Celine stands alone, an iconic force to be reckoned with. We can talk accolades and album sales all day, but you and I both know that her music speaks louder than any award or chart position ever could.
So, let's not overthink it. Get those speakers to max volume and celebrate the legendary Celine Dion, the Diva Hall of Fame's latest superstar.

Toni Braxton | The Diva Series
Tuesday Mar 25, 2014
Tuesday Mar 25, 2014
Get ready, because today we're shining the Diva Hall of Fame spotlight on a voice that needs no introduction—Toni Braxton. This smoky-voiced songstress burst onto the scene in the early '90s, not just as the demo voice behind Anita Baker for the Boomerang soundtrack's "You Were Meant For Me," but as a full-blown star when Anita gave Babyface the nudge to keep the original vocals. And voila! A legendary DIVA was born.
However, Toni's ascent to stardom wasn't all glitz and glam. She famously tussled with LaFace Records over the rights and royalties to her music, sparking a financial storm that led to a very public bankruptcy. Despite these obstacles, the resilience and voice that only Toni could offer were undeterred. She eventually patched things up with Babyface, because how can you keep two greats apart for too long?
But hey, let's talk about those chart-topping hits that not only dominated the radio airwaves but also got a thumping dance-floor makeover. "Un-Break My Heart," when spun into the Soul Hex Anthem (Soul Solution & Hex Hector Collboration) remix, is an irresistible force of nature that propels everyone from their barstools right to the middle of the floor. Its melancholic lyrics find a new, uplifting home amidst soaring tribal beats became a gay anthem for the ages.
Or what about "You're Making Me High," in the David Morales Classic Mix? This version amplifies everything sultry about the original track, adding rhythmic intensity that's as intoxicating as the subject matter. And let's not forget the transformative Frankie Knuckles Remix of "I Don't Want To," or the sizzling HQ2 Mix of "Spanish Guitar." These versions allow her vocal talents to shine in a club-friendly atmosphere, captivating us all.
Simply put, Toni Braxton is a triple threat; her voice, her visage, and her unstoppable energy make her an undeniable diva. The number of chart-toppers she's amassed is staggering, and her adaptability to the dance floor makes her a Diva Hall of Fame shoo-in.
So, let's raise our glasses, turn up the volume, and give a roaring welcome to the incomparable Toni Braxton.

Cher | The Diva Series

Sunday Mar 23, 2014
Cher kicked off her Dressed To Kill tour last night in Arizona (among all places, clear throat). I consider this the Farewell, Farewell tour but then again, never say never. As she famously said on the last go-around, she’d still tour when she’s toothless and her tits are hanging down to her knees and we’d still go see her LOL.
In all seriousness, Cher is an American ICON, a diva, and a GODDESS. Us gay folks have been in love with her for decades, because of her style, her outrageous outfits, her ability to garner headlines in the 70s, 80s, and 90s… and her voice and beauty, plastic surgery, and all.
Most importantly, the connection she has to our community is a bond that can never be broken. It’s her style, grace, and inner beauty that endears us to her. Never once have we been betrayed and her acceptance and appreciation for our community are her greatest gift.
The first set I ever created for Cher was completed for my good friend Terry back in 2003. That set never saw the light of day beyond giving it to him. Since then, I’ve created two more but I have to say that I FINALLY managed to work this mother out. The Cher set is a fitting tribute to the Goddess of all who came after her and I can firmly assure you that you won’t be disappointed.
So put your dancing shoes on because Cher is IN THE HOUSE!

Mariah Carey 2.0 | The Diva Series
Saturday Mar 15, 2014
Saturday Mar 15, 2014
Hey, diva devotees, get ready for round two because Mariah Carey is back for her second induction into the Diva Hall of Fame. Now, I know what you're thinking—what more could we possibly say about this vocal powerhouse? Well, it turns out there's plenty more to talk about.
The first induction was like Mariah's greatest hits, but this second lap focuses on her more recent songs and remixes that you'll definitely want to add to your playlist. While Mariah's been keeping it somewhat low-key these days—possibly due to Sony cooking up something big for her next album—we're treated to a more subdued yet equally compelling side of Mimi.
Now, let's delve into some of these jams, shall we? If you're all about those club-thumping beats, then you'll absolutely live for "Obsessed" in its Cahill Club Mix form. It's a delectable dance floor anthem that's as addictive as Mimi's high notes. And speaking of high notes, "Hero" gets a superb reimagining from Gustavo Scorpio's Private Mix that lets the diva's vocal acrobatics shine through the pulsating beats.
One track you can't overlook is "Triumphant (Get 'Em)," especially in the Danny Verde Club Mix. This version gives an already uplifting song an adrenaline shot, sending it straight to the dance floor heavens. And who could ignore the buttery smooth vibes of "Beautiful," transformed by DJ MichaelAngelo into a remix that's—dare we say—even more beautiful?
https://soundcloud.com/desi-golden/1-04-triumphant-get-em-danny?si=1d43822c632243a59915ae66ebb30d3c&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
Now, I don't expect to see Mimi twerking à la Beyoncé anytime soon, but she doesn't need to. Her contributions to the world of dance music, R&B, and pop are immense and should not be underestimated. She has shown immense versatility, from her ballads turned into anthems like "My All" in David Morales' Classic Club Mix, to her modern classics like "We Belong Together" in Peter Rauhofer's Reconstruction Club Mix.
So, whether you're a casual fan or one of her lambs, this set is a testament to her unwavering influence and an offering to her devotees. With her next album on the horizon, it's unclear what musical direction Mariah will take next. But for now, let's bask in the glory that is this second induction.
Ladies, gentlemen, and fans of fabulousness, let's give it up once more for the indomitable Mariah Carey.

Deborah Cox 2.0 | The Diva Series
Wednesday Mar 12, 2014
Wednesday Mar 12, 2014
Welcome back to another induction into Party Favorz's Diva Hall of Fame. We've been reliving the magic of divas past and present, and it's time to shine the spotlight on a voice that's become synonymous with dance floor anthems—Deborah Cox! Our beloved Canadian songstress is back for a second induction, and her musical journey since her last feature in 2010 has been nothing short of astounding.
Let's get one thing straight: Deborah Cox isn't just a name; she's an entire vibe that exists in a class all her own. With vocal chops that can evoke soul-piercing emotions, she's been a consistent presence in dance music for decades. In fact, her name and Hex Hector's seem to be a match made in dance music heaven. Just consider the iconic "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here". It's one of those tracks that radiates an emotional wallop while making you want to groove endlessly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRqZ2wBFZ5k
The Hex Hector magic doesn't stop there. With "It's Over Now," the duo once again unites to deliver an emotional narrative combined with irresistible beats. But it's not just Hector who amplifies Deborah's vocal magic. When you dive into "Absolutely Not" in its Hex Hector & Mac Quayle remix, you're met with an assertive, electrifying tune that screams empowerment. It's the perfect song for gay boys to pack the dance floor while waiving their fingers in defiance to the chorus.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b5xB1031jY
Tony Moran and Warren Rigg have also left an indelible mark on Cox's dance tracks. For instance, "House Is Not A Home" in its 'Sexy Mix' version becomes a pulsating journey that melds together Cox's emotive vocals with the pair's keen sense of rhythm. The synergy continues with "Everybody Dance" in the Tony Moran & Warren Rigg Club Mix, another must-have track that will keep you dancing until the early morning.
And let's not forget about "Easy As Life," spun into a Tony Moran anthem. This track embodies what Deborah does best: blending raw emotional storytelling with a beat that makes it impossible not to move your feet.
So why do we love Deborah Cox? It's simple. She delivers consistency in an inconsistent world. Whether she's belting out soulful ballads that get the remix treatment or delivering outright dance bangers, Deborah has proven that she's not just any diva; she's a dance floor queen and the gays just flat out adore her.
With a catalog this rich, it's no wonder Deborah Cox deserves this second salute in our Diva Hall of Fame. The compilation we're offering is both a celebration and a testament to her unwavering influence in dance music. From vocal power to rhythmic allure, this collection encapsulates the brilliance of a diva who's been defining and redefining the genre for years.

The EDM Sessions [February 2014]

I sat down a couple of days ago and started going through the latest tracks for the next EDM Sessions with low expectations for pulling together some solid tunes. Much to my surprise, there is a lot of great stuff to finally hit the streets allowing me to slap this puppy together in record time.
I plucked what I liked and then hit the delete button for the rest. Then I dropped the tunes into my software and presto they all fell together very nicely.
Despite no long versions of Cedric Gervais's remix of Miley Cyrus' “Adore You” nor The ChainSmoker’s take on Elle’s “Goodness Gracious,” the treatments they were given are SO OUTSTANDING, I had to include them in their radio formats.
Overall, this is one solid set that is so worthy, I had to put it out a week earlier than anticipated.
I’ve already started compiling the 2014 Spring Edition, which will see the light of day later in March but had to push back the BackSpin I had promised last week. I am also looking at some possible new Diva Series comps but no promises on that just yet.
For now, take on this banger set as it should very well get ya’ll through the next 30 days or so.
Until the next time …ENJOY!

What the …? Oh yeah baby, it’s time for some more rockin reelin gotta get that disco feelin!
It’s so not like me to release another disco set less than thirty days after the last, but the winter blues and lack of sunshine have left an empty void in my soul and ANYTHING that would pick my spirits up would be a welcome departure from these cold and dreary days. Frankly, funky disco house music always does the trick, so here it is!
In fact, this set fell together so effortlessly, I felt compelled to go ahead and share it. I figured a quick adrenaline shot of some funky beats should get everyone through the rest of the season. Besides, most of the EDM coming out so far this year is either shit or sounds like something we’ve all heard 1000 times before; so that’s gonna need to bake a while longer before I go back and start combing through current releases again. I've also got a pair of Back Spins that have been sitting on my hard drive since last year that I think I’ll send up next week without any fanfare nor promotion. If you’re into classic Euro-dance then those will provide you with a nice little classic throwback the decade we all know and love called the 90s. Right now, if you’re needing a little pick-me-up, then, by all means, download this sucker and GET READY TO DANCE! Enjoy!!!

Winter Edition 2014

There are so many variations of the Winter Edition cover I could have gone with this year. Given the controversy surrounding the Gay Olympics this year, Sochi would have been an obvious choice as would Mardi Gras. For that matter, the massive cold weather we’ve experienced this year as both poles of the earth becomes warmer the colder air filters down into the Americas but that’s not very sexy.
Instead, I chose Valentines. Look at it this way, this could be seen as support for marriage equality, our love for all things Olympics and the athletes that compete in them or even our love of the debauchery that takes place in New Orleans at the end of the month. Take your pic!
Frankly, I’m leaning towards debauchery and hedonism, which is always more fun [grin]. One thing I know for sure, after stuffing our faces with turkey and slacking at the gym, this mix will definitely get you primed and pumped for the warmer days ahead. ENJOY!
