Donna Summer Dance Tribute [1948–2012]

Not unlike Michael Jackson, Donna Summer reached the upper echelon of her career and then was quickly struck down by controversy.  While each instance is significantly different concerning the issue surrounding the heap of shit they found themselves in, they both showcase how ultimate fame can be quickly supplanted by ruination.
I’m not here to pass judgment on what she may or may have not said; rather focus on her career that had this gay boy dancing around his room night after night.
Donna Summer has worn the title of “Queen of Disco” for most of her career and rightfully so. With a slew of hits that topped the Disco charts and many more #1 and top tens on the pop charts, no single person has defined an era more than Donna Summer.
After the aforementioned “controversy” in the late eighties, her career was on a downward trajectory.  She focused her efforts on spreading her voice to other genres and other forms of music during the next couple of decades.
While she never reached the kind of peak she enjoyed in the late 70s and early 80s, she managed to rack up another 11 club hits that topped Billboard’s Club Play Chart.  No doubt, the love the gay community still had for her helped fuel this continued success.
Since her earliest work has been subject to countless compilations, I decided it fitting to focus this set on the latter half of her career with a couple of earlier bootlegged classics courtesy of Eddie Baez and DJ Meme.
Words cannot express the significance she played not only in my life but in countless others.  From the kid that used to mow lawns to get enough money to buy your records, thank you for the music. You are sorely missed.

Back Spin Volume 3 | Electro House Classics Megamix

I logged into work this morning only to be kicked out, which left me scratching my head. I went back and checked my schedule and it seems my company went in and canceled my early hours this morning leaving me time to go ahead and post the next installment of Back Spin.
I have to admit the response from Back Spin v2 has been ginormous and so it pleases me to send up v3 just before the weekend.
Picking up where v2 left off, this set hits on those dance floor monsters in the mid-millennium that was the precursor to today’s EDM scene. No doubt, you will hear several very familiar tunes in this volume, even if you were just a casual club-goer at the time.
I’ve got v4 set to go shortly but expect that one to take a whole new path or better yet, expect it to step back a decade earlier. So if you’re into that whole 90s energy based dance scene, that one will be for you with some companion sets slated for a future date.

Back Spin Volume 2 | Electro House Classics Megamix

I finally had some free time to post some sets in the Back Spin series that I had been promising but sat on for several months.
BS2 and the companion to this set BS3 track the mid to late millennium burgeoning underground EDM scene. Actually, it was the tipping point before the mainstream acceptance I had predicted on my first year-end post in 2007.
The premise of that post was that music is cyclical, in that styles and sounds never go out of favor but after peaking in popularity typically go underground until the time is ripe to re-appear under a new moniker. Often, the new sound will brandish influences from generations past, while making its own stylistic mark for current dance music enthusiasts.
Disco was later re-birthed as house, while EDM or electro is really a re-birth of the New Wave and the Punk scenes of the late 70s and 80s. Granted, technology allows us to take these influences further than previously imagined; so much so that the next DJ superstar is probably 13 years old and master his or her skills in their bedroom under their parent's roof, at this very moment.
So, I’m here to present many of the sounds and DJs who are responsible for much of what you now hear on the world’s dance floors and for that matter, Top 40 radio. I’ll give EDM a few more years before people tire and EDM is forced back underground, where it will go through another evolutionary round before making inroads into the mainstream again.
You’ll see a lot of familiar names on the next two sets, no need to mention them. Just sit back and listen to this musical journey from the not-so-distant past. ENJOY!

It’s time to step back, loosen up and head on over to the Disco Lounge for some fun and frolic. Who knows how the night might end he he he?
First things first. Grab some nice khakis ….NO, NOT THOSE CHEAP DICKIES YOU BOUGHT AT WALMART! In the far right corner in the back end of the closet is a nice pair of Banana Republic your ex made you get for that job interview you never got. Then grab that Hugo Boss shirt he picked up from Barney’s Basement last year. I know you don’t like that shirt but trust. Any black belt with a silver buckle will suffice and how about those Kenneth Cole’s you never wear. Do they hurt? Honey fabulous IS pain even when it’s pieced together from differing price lines. So get over it and next time don’t buy shoes because they are the last pair at 50% off + an extra 20% off if they aren’t your size! Also, NO WHITE TUBE SOCKS! As long as they’re black you’ll be fine.
One last thing, drop the boxers and put on these new tidy whities from Calvin Klein I picked up for you from Marshalls. Let’s fix the hair, cut the nails and brush the teeth, and BING! You look like a million bucks just laying on the ground waiting for some hot number to come pluck your losing ass.
Take a cab to Peachtree and Hot Mess Blvd, tell Terry at the door I sent you and you’ll get right in. I know this is a seedy part of town but that’s what makes it more exciting. TRUST! Sit up at the bar and order a Cosmopolitan. Limit them to two and sip slowly unless you want to end up playing bitch to some 74-year-old ape wearing a toupee in the back of a ‘76 Cadillac you mistook for a Mercedes-Benz.
Got some serious grown-up music that’s gonna get you in the mood. From Disco and Funk to House and Soul, it’s time to put your worries behind you and let the music take control. I worked the shit out of this motherfucker so I expect lots of love from EVERYBODY! [grin]
I’ve got three slamming Back Spins ready to go up next week. I had been sitting on them but with the current lull, I thought next week would be a good time to pull them out.

Halloween Edition 2013

I’ve been sitting on this since late Sunday, but haven’t been up to posting until now. Holy BAT SHIT where the hell have you been!?!! Good question, and I’ll post the condensed version at the end of this post.
In the interim, it’s that time of year for ghosts, goblins, ghouls …well you get the point. I’m turning over to you my humble followers another slamming set of current and future dancefloor hits (as well as some that will never go beyond underground classic status).
Lot’s treats in this set but with a harder edge. After all, this is the music for the devil’s playground so it was only fitting I take things a bit darker, though I think most of you can handle it.
It’s been colder than a witches tit (pun intended) here in the ATL, probably more than it should be for this time of year. Leann Rimes | The Diva Series

Thanks to John, one of Party Favorz' followers, I was reminded of the fabulousness of one of country music’s greatest voices, Miss Leann Rimes.
Often criticized for being too fat or too skinny, too country or too pop, or even [gasp] a husband-stealing home wrecker, Miss Rimes is the perfect candidate for DIVA status. When the tabloids write about your every sneeze and the paparazzi take pictures of your every move, you know you have arrived.
Add to all these things a voice that most artists would sell their soul for and the gates of the Diva Hall of Fame just open right up to welcome you into a diverse and elite field of your peers.
Her willingness to embrace the translation of her music for the dance floor is mere icing on the cake and likely one of the things we gays love about her.
From the early mega-hit How Do I live to the soaring Suddenly and today’s saucy Spitfire, Leann has always had her ear to the streets and has been remixed by some of the greatest producers in the dance industry.
At the tender age of 31, she isn’t about to quit and has a long career ahead of her. It’s for this reason and everything above that Party Favorz bestows our greatest honor on Miss Rimes and welcomes her to the Diva Hall of Fame.

Pure Diisco Shiit

I thought it would be apropos to close summer out with a DFH (Disco-Funk-House) set.
As you glance over the track list you may see some familiar mainstream names in there and think that your humble host may have a screw loose. While that part may be debatable LOL, I know that which I’ve included in this mix.
You can thank Daft Punk for opening the door this year for that “pure” disco sound and making it once again acceptable to the masses. If not for them, Enrique, Kylie, Bruno would have never been re-worked into a simple disco biscuit (officially or otherwise).
I don’t expect disco in its original form to catch on to point of mainstream domination, much like EDM has but it has opened the door for this generation to go back a couple of decades to rethink what they’re doing now. Let’s face it, the EDM scene is on the verge of imploding on itself as the boutique and mainstream labels all chase after the same dollar without really trying to evolve. Madonna Celebration 2013 | The Diva Series

After a failed promise to binge on the Material Girl this week, I'm at least keeping one promise to bring you a brand-spanking-new set chock-full of Madonna goodness.
Every crazed fan of Madonna knows there are a plethora of bootleg remixes of her extensive catalog. So much so, it’s damn near impossible to keep up with it. Nevertheless, several sites do.
My goal for this set was to focus on the last four albums and then cherry-pick a bounty of some of the best bootlegs that rework songs as far back as her debut in 1981. This was no easy task as you have to plow through so much crap to get to the good stuff. Then when I do find that gem, the quality ain’t all that great and I have the daunting task of cleaning it up to make it suitable to sandwich between more current productions giving you the listener the illusion that it’s fresh, new, and recently produced.
Ultimately, I do believe I have met that goal and think you folks are in for a damn good treat! If you’re wondering why I didn't re-post the older sets that I promised; it was because between work (that kind that pays) and work (that kind that doesn't) I just didn't have time to worry about anything else if this was to be finished on time, which as you can see is one day late.
So, the song titles will stick out when you go through the tracklist, but the actual remixes may or may not. No worries, every one of the bootlegs was hand-picked by yours truly as a winner guaranteeing you’re gonna enjoy this set.
I do want to point out that Holiday (Barry Harris Mix) as you may know it, may or may not have been put together by him. I decided to re-title it to reflect what it actually is; that is a mashup between Holiday and Dave Aude’s remix of Lady Gaga’s Alejandro. Dave’s remix of that song was never my favorite but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t a perfect match that brings Holiday into the millennial and makes it sound current.  Listen for the “don’t call on me” hook from Lady G. and then you’ll get it.
That being said, Party Favorz wants to wish Ms. Madonna Louise Ciccone a very happy belated birthday. Madonna is no stranger to the Diva Hall of Fame because she fucking rules it! So, all the other bitches need to stand back because Mama's IN THE HOUSE!
