EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

The cover art for this set was completed at the same time I made last year’s Disco Lounge. Originally, it was intended to be a companion set to the original but lack of additional songs worthy on inclusion forced me to set it aside until I could fill in the pieces. Those gaps have now been closed and I am pleased to finally be dropping a set I would liken to sophisticated house.
I just closed shop on the first EDM set for 2014 and am putting the finishing touches on the Winter Edition. Expect something new the next two weeks.
Hope your weekend is going well and I’ll be back next weekend with something new for the EDM folks. Until then…
ENJOY!

Blow Your Own Horn 2014 | The Ultimate New Year’s Dance Party Mix
Friday Dec 27, 2013
Friday Dec 27, 2013
I’ve been playing around with some new software called Mash-up that I really like, but am still on a learning curve.
Overall, I am really pleased how this set came out, even if I had to finish the second half using my old standby.
Basically, I took the best songs of 2013 and ran them through a juicer where I extracted the best parts and then spiced it up a bit with some 2012 favs creating the ultimate party concoction this side of the Atlantic.
As I get better with the software, you can expect some sets to be chopped and blocked later this year. I’m also leaning towards dumping the Time Capsule Series at the end of the year and just blasting a party set like this in its place.
After all, the majority of the songs have already appeared in one form or another in my sets throughout the year, not to mention my Pride set, which typically recaps the best of the first six months anyway.
Sorry, no cue file for this set as this is meant to be listened to from beginning to end. I hope everyone has a fabulous New Year’s celebration planned. Please take your safety into consideration as well as others.
As I move into new territory in 2014, I hope you all stay for the ride. It could get a little bumpy with my new home here at house-mixes.com but I am confident I have made the right choice going forward.
Happy New Year Everybody! –K

Top Dance Songs of 2013 Volume 4
Tuesday Dec 24, 2013
Tuesday Dec 24, 2013
Presenting volume 4 of the "Top Dance Songs of 2013" series.
Having meticulously crafted all four parts over the previous months, it is evident that Electronic Dance Music (EDM), as most know it, might be nearing a plateau.
That is not to suggest that its popularity will decline in 2014; on the contrary, it will continue to soar. However, the oversaturation and commercialized sounds pushed out by major labels, producing anthem after anthem, has blurred the lines between distinct artists and producers. This "copycat" strategy seems to be the prevailing trend, echoing successes like the Swedish House Mafia in the "Top Dance Songs of 2013".
Young talent, Zedd, provides an excellent case in point. The enormous success of "Clarity" last year and "Spectrum" from the "Top Dance Songs of 2013", both from his debut with Interscope, led to the release of the expanded version of his album. The new single, "Stay the Night", unfortunately followed the same blueprint, hinting at a creative impasse by his label. 2014 could offer him a fresh chance to deliver something unique that resonates both on the dance floor and radio.
Avicii understands the need for innovation. His single "Wake Me Up", initially criticised for its country or folksy undertones, turned out to be a colossal EDM track of the year. If a major label were involved, we might never have heard this gem.
This conversation brings us to the 2013 disco revival led by the legendary Daft Punk. It was a smart move by Sony to put substantial promotion behind their latest project. "Get Lucky" landed a spot in the "Top Dance Songs of 2013", and rightfully so. With a groovy bassline reminiscent of Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers' smooth guitar work, the track would comfortably fit into a 1979 playlist. Though a full-fledged disco comeback might not be on the horizon, it wouldn't be surprising to see its offshoot, NuDisco, breaking into mainstream music in 2014.
The surge in EDM's popularity, evident from the likes of Tiesto's residency in Las Vegas, mirrors the significant financial investments the genre has attracted. The fuse lit in the "Top Dance Songs of 2013" will continue to burn brightly into 2014, perhaps reaching a crescendo in 2015.
Party Favorz has been tracking these shifts from Disco to Hi-NRG to House Music and Trance. Every dance music trend evolves from its predecessor, typically with a unique twist, and the future should be no different. While we're not predicting specific sound trends, our dedication to dance music remains constant. With the "Top Dance Songs of 2013" series coming to an end, Party Favorz is fully prepared to guide everyone towards "the next big thing" as it unfolds.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2013 Volume 3
Friday Dec 20, 2013
Friday Dec 20, 2013
As the holiday season draws near, we're thrilled to present the third volume of our "Top Dance Songs of 2013" series. In keeping with the annual tradition, we've gathered the best dance hits of the year into an exciting compilation, including tracks like Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" (Cedric Gervais Remix), Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" featuring Nile Rodgers & Pharrell Williams, and Kelly Clarkson's "People Like Us" (Show & Tell Remix).
This year, we've also incorporated some pop crossovers like Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" (DJ Laszlo Club Mix), Rihanna's "Right Now" featuring David Guetta (Cosmic Dawn Club Mix), and OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" (It's the Kue Club Mix), making this series a vibrant mix of the "Top Dance Songs of 2013". However, we're contemplating if this multi-part series could be more appealingly presented in two volumes.
When we initially embarked on this year-end project, we presented only two volumes. Over the years, this expanded to eight, before settling back down to four. Recently, we've developed a fresh approach for the website, an amalgamated year-end compilation using variant versions from past sets. These also include several standout hits from 2012 that maintained their popularity into 2013, or as some might say, tracks that remained ubiquitous long after their peak.
How this new approach will be received is hard to predict, given it's a departure from our past offerings. This non-stop party mix was crafted in a single take, providing the closest experience to a live set you can expect from us. More details will be shared when we release it next week, but it's safe to say this could potentially shape the future of Party Favorz and our approach to creating mixes. For now, let's conclude the "Top Dance Songs of 2013" series, allowing us some downtime for the rest of the year.
Stay tuned for the final volume next week, where we'll share insights on the direction we believe EDM is moving towards in 2014 and beyond.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2013 Volume 2
Monday Dec 16, 2013
Monday Dec 16, 2013
Delving into the vibrant world of Electronic Dance Music (EDM), we're excited to release the second volume of our "Top Dance Songs of 2013" series. This compilation is a rhythmic journey, transporting listeners through the most pulsating dance tracks of the year, including standout hits like Calvin Harris's "I Need Your Love" featuring Ellie Goulding, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's "Same Love" (Cutmore Club Mix).
This series, a definitive part of our "Top Dance Songs of 2013", also embraces popular cross-genre hits. Ellie Goulding's "Burn" receives a transformative remix from renowned DJ Tiesto, bringing a unique EDM flavour to the pop anthem. In similar fashion, the Britney Spears' dance floor hit "Work Bitch" gets an infectious remix from George M., further enriching our 2013 collection.
An integral part of the "Top Dance Songs of 2013" list is Zedd's "Clarity", featuring Foxes, that became a dancefloor staple. This list encapsulates the unique energy and innovation of EDM in 2013, showcasing not just popular tracks but also those that pushed the genre's boundaries.
Over the years, the format of this year-end series has evolved. Initially presented in two volumes, it expanded to eight before reducing to the current four-part format. We've also recently experimented with a consolidated year-end set, infusing past hits with fresh remixes.
This new approach, a departure from our previous offerings, has created a non-stop party mix, crafted in one take. It's the closest you'll get to a live Party Favorz set. More details will be revealed when we release it next week. This could potentially shape the future of Party Favorz and how we approach our mixes.
For now, let's immerse ourselves in the "Top Dance Songs of 2013" and enjoy the unique blend of rhythm and melody. Tune in next week for the final volume and our thoughts on the future direction of EDM.
Until then, enjoy the beats of 2013!

Top Dance Songs of 2013 Volume 1
Saturday Dec 14, 2013
Saturday Dec 14, 2013
Welcome to our series on the "Top Dance Songs of 2013", our annual series where we distill the year's best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) into a multi-podcast listening experience.
Condensing a year's worth of phenomenal EDM into these four installments is no small feat. Certain tracks might be overlooked or not make the cut, while the inclusion of others could raise some eyebrows. Our process of selection is informed by a blend of Beatport and the Billboard Dance Club chart, personal preferences, audience vibes, and feedback from fans across various platforms.
Our "Top Dance Songs of 2013" list features a variety of engaging tracks, such as Katy Perry's "Roar" (Cosmic Dawn Club Remix) and Rihanna's "The Monster" featuring Eminem (Majestic Audio Bootleg). We've also included Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" featuring T.I. & Pharrell (The Thin Red Men Club Mix), a song that had people grooving all through 2013.
Tegan & Sara's "Closer" (Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix) and Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr's "Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat" (Calvin Harris Mix) have also found a place on our compilation. Even pop crossover hits like Will.I.Am's "Scream & Shout" featuring Britney Spears (Deen Creed Remix) grace our "Top Dance Songs of 2013" list, showcasing the wide range of styles and genres that came together to shape the year in EDM.
It's all subjective, open to debate and dependent on one's personal preferences. As an example, while "Gangnam Style" made our list in the previous year, Ylvis' "The Fox" didn't, due to its divisive reception. What one listener might find catchy, another might deem annoying, as we experienced when including it on Jingle Electric a few weeks ago.
But for now, let's dive into the beats, rhythm and exhilarating energy that made up the "Top Dance Songs of 2013".
Until the next time...ENJOY!

As we roll down to the end of the year, I want to make sure that as many people as possible understand that Party Favorz WILL BE MOVING our servers to a new home by December 22. In fact, I’m already at Mixcloud, which is great for streaming and they even have an app for your iPhone or Android (sorry no Windows Phone yet). Sorry, they don’t allow downloads but there is a way to do it if you figured out how to download songs off of Soundcloud when there is no link.
I’ve also set up shop at House-Mixes.com, which does allow me to supply folks with download links. So, if you get your updates via Pod-o-matic, you would be wise to sign up for these other sites and follow me there. The best option is to like my Facebook page or sign up for email updates at partyfavorz.com.
I’m not sure just yet how that will affect those of you who get your downloads on iTunes, so I’ll have to research a little more.
In the meantime, I’m sending up my annual Holiday Edition for the circuit boys. I pulled a rabbit out of my ass to make this DIVALICIOUS Holiday Edition come together and I’ll be damned if it ain’t near perfection.
Gotta get back to work, so I’ll leave it at that other than to say ENJOY!

Friday Nov 29, 2013
As promised, delivering the final EDM set Jingle Electric for 2013 right to your inbox.
It’s unusual for this time of year to have slim options for new music, but in the end, I managed to pull it out.
While still pretty commercial, I opted for versions with some bite, hence the larger-than-life sound.
Besides, I wanted to end the year with a bang, and that’s exactly what this set delivers.
I also wrapped up the Holiday Edition 2013 for the circuit boys and will be delivering that one no later than Friday of next week. Gotta breathe a little between sets but I promise you this …IT’S WORTH THE WAIT! I’ve got some sweet surprises in that one that has yet to surface anywhere on the net.
I’ll be drowning in work pretty much all week but will manage to find the time to start on the Time Capsule 2013. I've pretty much already pulled everything that will be on those sets so it’s just a matter of putting it all together and of course the artwork, of which I haven’t a clue yet.
Hope everyone had their fill of Turkey yesterday and is getting their shopping on today. I’ll be back next week.
Until then …ENJOY!

Christmas Dance Mix — X-mas Dance Mix 2010
Wednesday Nov 27, 2013
Wednesday Nov 27, 2013
As the holiday season is upon us, let's crank up the volume and get festive with Party Favorz's very first Christmas Dance Mix. Initially crafted back in 2010, this mix served as the cornerstone for what would become a fan-favorite tradition. Over the years, our Christmas Dance Mixes have evolved, adopting the latest tracks and styles, but this classic mix holds a special place in our Party Favorz history.
This beloved set, enjoyed seasonally in the Party Favorz household, returns to sprinkle a little holiday magic on your dancefloor. Although we're always scouting for fresh tracks to elevate the holiday experience, there's no denying that this inaugural Christmas Dance Mix still has the charisma to get your feet moving and your spirits lifted.
As we gear up for the annual Jingle Electric drop on Friday and the eagerly awaited Holiday Edition for 2013 next week, let's not forget the iconic tracks that make this classic mix so enduring. From Cher & Rosie's rendition of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" to Donna Summer's "Rosie Christmas," each track conjures the unmistakable blend of Christmas nostalgia and danceable beats.
Fan-favorite "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, given a new spin with the Low Sunday Extended Mix, rubs shoulders with hits like Bananarama's "Baby It's Christmas" and Gloria Gaynor's jiving "Winter Wonderland." Truly, this mixtape is a delectable smorgasbord of House, Funky, and Dance genres.
We've come a long way since our first Christmas Dance Mix, with each year bringing more sophisticated arrangements and contemporary hits. Yet, there's an undeniable charm to this original mix, as it reflects not just the tastes of a bygone era but also the promise of exciting innovations to come in our annual holiday releases.
So, as we relish our Thanksgiving feasts and contemplate the blessings we're thankful for, let's crank up this vintage gem. Trust me, whether you're new to Party Favorz or a long-time listener, you're in for a Christmas Dance Mix experience that only gets better with time. Until the next time, Happy Thanksgiving, and as always...ENJOY!

Donna Summer Dance Tribute [1948–2012]

Not unlike Michael Jackson, Donna Summer reached the upper echelon of her career and then was quickly struck down by controversy. While each instance is significantly different concerning the issue surrounding the heap of shit they found themselves in, they both showcase how ultimate fame can be quickly supplanted by ruination.
I’m not here to pass judgment on what she may or may have not said; rather focus on her career that had this gay boy dancing around his room night after night.
Donna Summer has worn the title of “Queen of Disco” for most of her career and rightfully so. With a slew of hits that topped the Disco charts and many more #1 and top tens on the pop charts, no single person has defined an era more than Donna Summer.
After the aforementioned “controversy” in the late eighties, her career was on a downward trajectory. She focused her efforts on spreading her voice to other genres and other forms of music during the next couple of decades.
While she never reached the kind of peak she enjoyed in the late 70s and early 80s, she managed to rack up another 11 club hits that topped Billboard’s Club Play Chart. No doubt, the love the gay community still had for her helped fuel this continued success.
Since her earliest work has been subject to countless compilations, I decided it fitting to focus this set on the latter half of her career with a couple of earlier bootlegged classics courtesy of Eddie Baez and DJ Meme.
Words cannot express the significance she played not only in my life but in countless others. From the kid that used to mow lawns to get enough money to buy your records, thank you for the music. You are sorely missed.
Donate and keep the party going!

I logged into work this morning only to be kicked out, which left me scratching my head. I went back and checked my schedule and it seems my company went in and canceled my early hours this morning leaving me time to go ahead and post the next installment of Back Spin.
I have to admit the response from Back Spin v2 has been ginormous and so it pleases me to send up v3 just before the weekend.
Picking up where v2 left off, this set hits on those dance floor monsters in the mid-millennium that was the precursor to today’s EDM scene. No doubt, you will hear several very familiar tunes in this volume, even if you were just a casual club-goer at the time.
I’ve got v4 set to go shortly but expect that one to take a whole new path or better yet, expect it to step back a decade earlier. So if you’re into that whole 90s energy based dance scene, that one will be for you with some companion sets slated for a future date.
Until then …ENJOY!

I finally had some free time to post some sets in the Back Spin series that I had been promising but sat on for several months.
BS2 and the companion to this set BS3 track the mid to late millennium burgeoning underground EDM scene. Actually, it was the tipping point before the mainstream acceptance I had predicted on my first year-end post in 2007.
The premise of that post was that music is cyclical, in that styles and sounds never go out of favor but after peaking in popularity typically go underground until the time is ripe to re-appear under a new moniker. Often, the new sound will brandish influences from generations past, while making its own stylistic mark for current dance music enthusiasts.
Disco was later re-birthed as house, while EDM or electro is really a re-birth of the New Wave and the Punk scenes of the late 70s and 80s. Granted, technology allows us to take these influences further than previously imagined; so much so that the next DJ superstar is probably 13 years old and master his or her skills in their bedroom under their parent's roof, at this very moment.
So, I’m here to present many of the sounds and DJs who are responsible for much of what you now hear on the world’s dance floors and for that matter, Top 40 radio. I’ll give EDM a few more years before people tire and EDM is forced back underground, where it will go through another evolutionary round before making inroads into the mainstream again.
You’ll see a lot of familiar names on the next two sets, no need to mention them. Just sit back and listen to this musical journey from the not-so-distant past. ENJOY!
