EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

BPM Edition 2009 Volume 10 | Take 2
Sunday Dec 20, 2009
Sunday Dec 20, 2009
I bet you guys think I went off and forgot about you. Well, I didn't. Things have just been a little hectic around here. Rick finally had his biopsy on Tuesday and we were expecting results on Friday. We did get a little glimmer of hope when they drew his blood and results showed him at 3.1 for his creatinine levels, well below the 4.0 the doctor wanted him at. As Friday crept up on us, the doctor didn't call and Rick pretty much had a meltdown at work. Though I'm not going to count our chickens before they're hatched, I'm pretty confident that he will finally be off dialysis before Christmas. Understanding how health care in America works, they've been milking his insurance for all that it's worth. Private insurance pays out more than Medicare, and to have a patient like him is like hitting the lottery. I had Rick start getting his blood drawn elsewhere to prove my point and those results were consistently much lower than what his doctor was reporting. Nevertheless, I fully expect the good doctor to show up on Wednesday bearing a Santa hat and give him the good news. If that happens, I think he and I will count our blessings that this nightmare of uncertainty has finally ended.
As you can see, this past week has been all about my man and spending more time with him, while ensuring him everything is going to be alright. During that time, I was able to get the majority of my work done at night, while he was asleep. Rest assured, the Holiday Editions are finished and I'll be previewing them shortly on one of my much-treasured trips around the city on this beautiful sunny day (albeit chilly). I'll be posting a mix each day Monday through Wednesday to ensure I meet my deadline. After that, I'll be taking a much-needed break and begin focusing on my own efforts.
I hope everyone has gotten all of their holiday shopping done and are simply gearing up for the upcoming festivities that will allow you to sit back and relax while taking stock of your life and the treasures that surround you. Whether they're obvious to you or not, trust me, they do exist; you just need to look a little harder and you'll be surprised what you uncover. I'll be back tomorrow with the first of three smoking hot Holiday sets.
Until then, ENJOY!

T-Dance Edition 2009 Volume 5 | Cool Down
Saturday Dec 12, 2009
Saturday Dec 12, 2009
I know I promised this for Tuesday, but I have been a VBB (Very Busy Boy) this week. Half the time, I didn't know if I was coming or going. Despite that, I've already managed to knock out the final BPM Edition 2009 of the year and will start on the Holiday Edition 2009 tomorrow. Rest assured, I'm not sitting on my tush doing anything. You folks can expect to be seeing a lot of posts between now and Christmas Eve. So don't think I'm spamming you, I'm just running a little bit behind and will be playing catch-up this next week.
In the meantime, I'm serving up the long overdue "Cool Down" mix of the final 2009 T-Dance Edition. There's a heaping amount of soul and gospel in this set. To keep it interesting, I tried my best to be very discerning about what went into this final mix. I've been pretty much listening to this and Adam Lambert in my car for the last week and a half while driving around town trying to get things done. I can assure you, I wasn't Christmas shopping either. Santa hasn't visited the Party Favorz household in over three years. My guess is that Rick and I have either been naughty or it's because we're no longer listed in the phone book LOL.
I love the soothing tempo and soulful vocals, which did a fantastic job of calming me while in heavy traffic in and around town. So much so, I kept my birdie to myself, even in situations where it was warranted to let it loose and fly high and proud. Instead, I would just say "Merry Christmas" to the offending idiot on the cell phone, who would speed up to cut in front of me and then proceed to go 40 mph or that jack@$$ that damn near ran into me in the Starbucks parking lot, even though I had the right of way. Ahh yes, tis the season to be kind to my fellow man.
Whether it's the warm summer vibes of Bah Samba's "Live in the Summer," the uplifting "Sunshine (In This Heart of Mine)" by Kehoe & Harmony, the heart-tugging "Don't Tell Me (That You're Sorry)" by Ethan White & Marie Tweek or the absolutely gorgeous "Home" by New York's fabulously gifted Heather Johnson, there is a little something here to fill your mind, body, and soul. And, if Soulful house isn't your cup of tea, try it out anyway. It might very well help you keep that birdie from taking flight while fighting traffic during this hectic time of the year. Enjoy!

Well, I guess nobody read my "Terms of Use" last post except one person who sent an email. It took me over an hour and a half to put together and frankly, I thought it was pretty damn funny. Then again, maybe I don't share the same humor as everyone else. Anywho, I won't bore anyone with the details of this mix. Just expect funkier, soulful house music with a hefty dose of disco loaded on top. I'll have the cooldown mix out by Tuesday and then I'll be ramming the final BPM through so I can get to the Holiday Edition. Until then, enjoy.

BPM Edition 2009 #9
Wednesday Nov 25, 2009
Wednesday Nov 25, 2009
I bet you thought I was going to leave you all without anything for the holiday weekend. Now, I wouldn't do that to you. In a nutshell, you're looking at a combo serving of electro-pop, funky house, big room and progressive house all rolled into one giant turkey wrap. Mmmm, delicious! I even added a little gravy on the side to dip it in.
This was going to be a double set, but the more I started listening to the songs that I set aside, the more they felt like filler or stuffing, and not the fabulous kind MoMo used to make. So, I started cutting stuff out and went back to the drawing board with what was left and came out with twenty songs that I am totally feeling right now. Keep listening, because just when you think you got your groove on, it's going to change and then change again. Think of it like hitting your "G" spot from different directions, all of which feel remarkably good.
After a bevy of hot releases earlier than usual this year, things have slowed down. With all the big name releases dropping, I'm expecting a late influx of new releases in the next few weeks. If so, we may get one final BPM for the year. If not, I may just have to combine them with the upcoming Holiday Edition, which is still a few weeks out. So stay tuned on that front.
I hope everyone in the US has a fantastic Turkey day! For the vegan lovers (Debra comes to mind) enjoy your tofu Even though slavemaster Stephen has agreed to get up early Friday morning to work with me, I expect to be taking it pretty easy through the weekend. Also, remember to relax folks, don't let family get to you. Rick and I have a break from that this year as mom damn near burnt the house down on one of her senior moments. Currently, she and dad are holding up at an Embassy Suites, waiting for all the repairs and smoke clearing to be done, so I guess it's just as well. I'll be back sometime in early December as I look for something to cook up for you folks while waiting for some new tunes to come rolling in. Until then, HAPPY THANKSGIVING and as always ENJOY!

Janet Jackson's evolution as a musical icon didn't halt as the 90s came to a close; it merely shifted gears. Embracing the pulsating energies of the new millennium's club scene, Janet successfully transitioned her sound to resonate with the latest dance music trends. It's a journey amplified by collaborations with renowned DJs like Tony Moran, Thunderpuss, Peter Rauhofer, and Junior Vasquez. These partnerships ensured that Janet's footprint on the dance floor remained indelible.
In 1997, "The Velvet Rope" acted as a turning point, capturing the essence of what was hot in clubs. It was a transformation, not a departure—something that becomes more evident when you hear tracks like "Together Again," masterfully reimagined by Tony Moran. His remix gave the song a new, energetic dimension that kept dance floors packed.
By the time "Damita Jo" was released, Janet had fully embraced the burgeoning electro and progressive genres, a trend she further amplified in "Discipline." Though the album topped the Billboard charts, it didn't churn out any hit singles, leaving many to wonder if her career had hit a plateau. Critics argued, but the club scene told a different story. Her streak of No. 1s on club charts endured, proving that Janet was as relevant as ever in spaces that mattered to her most ardent fans.
It's tempting to blame her momentary commercial slip on the infamous Super Bowl incident, but it's also possible that Janet was just too far ahead of the mainstream curve. Regardless, she continued to hold her own as a powerhouse on the club circuit. Songs like "Rock With U," remixed by Soundpusher, and "All Nite (Don't Stop)" with the Low End Specialists Main Mix, continued to be dance-floor staples.
While the rumor mill buzzed with speculations of her collaboration with long-time associate Jimmy Jam and a delayed new album, it was clear that Janet, or Miss Jackson if you're nasty, was far from finished. With a greatest hits package released and a life full of musical options ahead of her, it was evident that Janet would continue to rule the dance scene in whatever form she chose.
What comes next in her career may be shrouded in mystery, but one thing is clear: Janet Jackson's story in dance music is far from over. And we can't wait to see what she pulls off next.
Until the next time...ENJOY!
Donate and keep the party going!

Janet Jackson: The Breakout Years | Diva Series Volume 1
Tuesday Nov 17, 2009
Tuesday Nov 17, 2009
As the youngest member of the illustrious Jackson family, Janet Jackson entered the music industry with high expectations. While her first two albums didn't make a splash, it was her third outing, "Control," that transformed her into a musical juggernaut. Working with iconic producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Janet abandoned the saccharine pop of her early career for a more assertive, funky sound. With hits like "What Have You Done For Me Lately," "Nasty," "When I Think Of You," and "Control," the album was a game-changer, not just for Janet, but for pop and dance music alike.
Her meteoric rise continued with the release of "Rhythm Nation" in 1989. This wasn't just an album; it was a statement. Infused with potent social commentary alongside irresistible dance tracks like "Miss You Much" (Shep’s House Mix) and "Rhythm Nation" (House Nation Mix), Janet was now in an orbit all her own. Her transformation from a "tough little girl" to a confident, sexy icon was complete when she unleashed "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" (U.K. Funky Mix) and later performed "Black Cat" (3 Snaps Up 12') at the MTV Music Awards.

The momentum was unstoppable. She inked an $80 million contract with Virgin Records, making her the industry’s highest-paid artist at the time. While many artists might have buckled under such pressure, Janet doubled down, releasing tracks that would become dance-floor staples. "That’s The Way Love Goes (CJ FXTC Club Mix)," "Go Deep" (Masters At Work Alternative Mix), "Together Again" (Tony Humphries Club Mix), and "If" (Brothers In Rhythm House Mix) all showcased her versatility, effortlessly moving from house to R&B to pop.
Janet Jackson’s musical tapestry is woven with threads of resilience, reinvention, and undeniable talent. Whether it’s the soulful strains of "Got 'Til It's Gone" (Def Club Mix) or the energizing beats of "You Want This (Disco Theory - No Rap)," her music remains a testament to her genius and her indelible mark on the dance floor. With a career spanning over four decades, her songs have not only topped charts but have also become anthems for generations. That’s why Party Favorz is beyond thrilled to induct Janet Jackson into the Diva Hall of Fame.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

For this final set, I thought I'd step down from my diamond-encrusted soapbox and just talk briefly about this final mix. Unlike the other sets, this one's all about the NRG. From 131 to 138 BPM, everything here is pretty much at break-neck speeds. Packed with familiar gems, I found that compiling the songs with faster beats might be a better idea than meshing them in with the slower ones. Once I saw the disparity of the speeds, this was the first mix I decided to create. From start to finish, this is just as worthy as the other sets.
I received an email from one of our followers yesterday who had jumped the gun and sent me an advance of $40 in anticipation of these four sets. Having listened to the first two, he said these were "so gay." A term loosely used by kids today to mean "lame " or "stupid." Of course, I knew what he meant and I'm glad he liked them. Yeah, these are pretty fucking gay sets, as they were intended. The songs I chose to include are simply frivolous and fun. As such, I thought I might ask everyone that's purchased them so far to please leave a comment on the fan page under each mix and tell me what you think. Too gay or not gay enough? What's your favorite set and why? I think your feedback would be invaluable for those currently sitting on the fence as to whether or not they'll donate to my efforts. Frankly, I've been listening to the finished product for the past month or so and just can't seem to get sick of them, which is usually the case with my other mixes. For me, it doesn't get any better than driving around with my sunroof open on a beautiful day in the ATL and blasting the queerest songs on the planet. It certainly raises a lot of eyebrows at our local Starbucks, which is nothing more than a local gay hangout. I bet if I could pull into the parking lot and blast these mixes through some giant JBLs, I could have those queens up and out of their seats with their mochas in tow, dancing around like a bunch of silly school girls. So please, tell me what you think, I'd love to hear from every one of you.
Ultimately, if you haven't been bouncing off the walls to these songs, then I either didn't do my job correctly or we need to strip you of all of your gay credentials. Frankly, I'm leaning toward the latter LOL. I hope you enjoyed the music so far and I look forward to making a companion package to these mixes in the spring of 2010. I want to thank everyone that has supported my efforts to give back to Equality Across America. For those holding out to see if these will ever be free, sorry it ain't gonna happen.
So what's next for Party Favorz? I'm glad you asked. Between now and the end of the year, you can expect a couple of Diva Series, at least two BPM Editions (which are going to be HOT), a T-Dance Edition, and the Holiday Edition. I'm wide open as to whether I'll do a Year-End Edition this go around. I haven't made up my mind just yet, though if I do, there's a good chance I'll spill that into early January. As you can see, time is running out and I have a lot on my plate. When all is said and done, I plan on taking a month off for some much-needed rest and to work on other projects I've got going.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and remember to always enjoy life because it might just pass you by when you're not looking.
Peace Out. - K

My father and I have a Sunday ritual calling each other to catch up on the previous weeks' personal and political events. Often times, these friendly discussions get heated as he role's off the talking points from the GOP like they had been implanted in his brain. He is my best friend and someone who I admire and deeply respect; a man who I've tried to emulate most of my life, but could never quite match the awesomeness of him. We not only resemble each other but sound alike as well. No one would ever doubt that I am his son. However, when it comes down to philosophies, that's pretty much where the resemblance ends.
Both he and my mother are devout Catholics and their faith became more intricately intertwined with the church after my brother's death in 1986; meanwhile, I was going the opposite direction. Despite that, he has always been steadfast in his beliefs about me and my brother. That is, he believes we were born gay and did not purposely choose a life of "difficulty." He has also said on more than one occasion, that if he had his choice, we would not have been born gay. His reasoning is that our lives would have been so much easier due to the lack of acceptance by mainstream society. Perhaps he is right, though I don't necessarily think I would change anything other than my chin (a Whitworth family trait), I like who I am.
Several months ago, in one of our conversations, he asked how my partner and I were holding up. (Sidenote: Rick had been hospitalized after one of his doctor's prescribed medications that were contradictory to his high blood pressure medicine, sending him to the emergency room, where he was subsequently hospitalized for a week due to kidney failure. He has since been on dialysis and should be off by the end of the year. I had surgery less than a month later with complications afterward that lasted a month and a half and am now in therapy to see if I'll be able to walk like the rest of you good folks). He then went on to ask about our relationship and if we were "there" for each other. At this point, I was becoming uneasy with his questions but assured him that that was the case. Then he went on to ask if we really "loved" and "cared" for each other. "You know son, your mother and I have been married for 48 years and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make it work." I was blown away by that question and approached my answer using humor, the only way I know how to respond when I'm in an uncomfortable situation.
Rick and I have been together since 2001 and now live like an old married couple. We often know what the other is thinking. We often finish each other's sentences. Heck, I can even tell when he's being less than truthful and when one of us needs a good tongue lashing, neither of us is afraid to tell each other like it is. It's taken 23 years for my father and me to have this conversation. Naturally, I was nervous when I heard these questions come out of his mouth. Answering with humor was the only way I could squelch my own discomfort. My response gave him a good chuckle and we were finally able to move on.
I guess my point is, that even though he's not going to throw his beliefs out the window anytime soon, I do believe that it's possible to slowly win hearts and minds over the "marriage equality" and "equal rights" debate currently at the forefront of the American conscience. No doubt he's read about it and is continually barraged with anti-gay sentiment in many of his news programs. In particular, O'Reilly always likes to show gay pride parades in San Francisco and uses that to frame all homosexuals as one giant cliché. Fortunately, one of my fathers best friends' son has been in a long-term relationship with another man and lives in Austin (TX).
Several years ago, he and his partner adopted a Korean boy. Both are professionals and at one point decided they needed some vacation time alone. They called on grandpa (my father's friend) to take care...

Recently, I was criticized for using a title to my blog that has long been associated with drug use. What these individuals do not know is the story behind "Party Favorz" which was coined by friends upon my arrival at after-hours parties in South Texas where I grew up.
Since I was a kid, I was always the one looked to, to provide the entertainment at parties. My love for all music continued into my adult life with a preference for house music, disco and all other forms of dance music. When I would show up at these after-hours parties, I was always asked if I brought any "party favors" with me. That reference was to cool dance music that would be played in the background at these late-night gatherings. The name stuck and that's what I have been calling my mixes since 1999. To lessen the confusion, I even have a 'description' of this site in the left-hand column that always seems to get lost on the haters or at the very least ignored:
Party Favorz is a series of mainstream/circuit club mixes that I started making for friends in 1999.
Over the years, the mixes evolved into my own special blend of electro-pop and happy house.
In 2007, at the urging of friends, I decided to take everything online and the Party Favorz blog was born.
Whether you're gay, straight, black, white, pink or purple,
Party Favorz knows no boundaries and everyone IS welcome here.
Comments and suggestions are always appreciated; in fact they are encouraged.
Regardless of the play on words, Party Favorz does not promote nor endorse the use of drugs.
Frankly, house music is the only drug your body needs to have a good time.
Live, Work, Play and Dance...just do it responsibly. Now on to the music!
Additionally, my followers have also been criticized for being uneducated "party boys" who lived for the circuit and drug use. That could be further from the truth. While I don't personally know everyone that follows this site, many of them are professionals from doctors, nurses, lawyers, graphic designers, trainers, and educators. To make a generalized statement about people who like to go out on weekends, dance, unwind and just have fun is a misnomer. They are everyday people from all walks of life who are able to balance their professional lives with their private lives. Whatever happens after the leopard spots from the disco ball fades, is no one's business but theirs. For all the haters, I suggest you worry about cleaning your own backyard before worrying about your neighbors.
-Dedicated to a couple of asswipes from San Francisco
As we move through this series, you might notice a large amount of these songs have been re-worked by a production group called "Almighty" a record label out of the UK, which consists of DJ Andy Almighty, who is also a part of the production teams "7th Heaven" and "Club Junkies." He also works closely with some of the dance industry's biggest talents like "Soulshaker" and "Bassmonkeys" and a slew of other big-name producers like "Cahill" "Stonebridge" "Soul Seekerz" "Jason Nevins" "Moto Blanco" and "Wideboys"; many of whose works are prominently featured throughout these four sets. DJ Andy Almighty's bio on his MySpace Page states that he is a "DJ/club promoter, producer/remixer, dance music industry guru and gay scene legend!" I would take it a step further and suggest he is a gay icon, right up there with Madonna.
2009 marks the 20th anniversary of Almighty Records, a feat that's practically unheard of in the dance music industry. They are celebrating this marked occasion with their "Essentials" collection which debuts one new release each month. The gay community is blessed with the great efforts of DJ Andy Almighty and his organization for breathing life into these timeless classics and opening them up to an entirely new generation of club-goers. For that, we are most humbled and entirely in your indebtedness for making our lives that much richer.
