EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

Summer Edition 2009 Volume 1
Monday Jul 13, 2009
Monday Jul 13, 2009
Originally, I thought I was going to get some exclusives from DJ Bill Bennett for you guys, but that didn't quite pan out. We had been exchanging email messages and he assured me that I could use "Manhunt" and "Forever Young" in my Summer Edition, with pre-conditions that I didn't mind abiding by. Many of you may not know that he supplements his income as a nurse. Let's face it, bills have to be paid and that's how he does it when he's not in the studio or on the road. Anyway, I know he's been really busy lately, so I didn't want to keep forcing the issue for fear of getting on his bad side, much-less being a pain in the ass. He did send me his "Expelled From Catholic School Mix" for "Forever Young" and it's a surefire winner. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work with any of the three sets so I decided to put that off until my next BPM. The good news is that he has a double release scheduled for both songs on July 27th exclusively at Masterbeat. I expect these much-anticipated songs to do extremely well in the clubs, on the charts, and at dance radio. Already with two massive hits from his "Big Muscle of the Rhythm" album, last year's summer anthem "Fame" and the Big Pig classic (one of my all-time favorites) "Breakaway" these two bombs should put his Big Muscle Tour back on the road for quite some time.
Meanwhile, I thought I'd go ahead and start rolling out these mixes so as to have them out for the BIG San Diego Pride events coming this weekend. Our good friend John Longo from Circuit Cadence has caused quite a stir with his remarks over Peter Rauhofer's track record for attending these types of events. So this should prove to be an interesting weekend ahead and I've got Twitter on full alert. You can follow the thread here.
As for this mix, this is probably about as commercial as it's going to get. Each subsequent mix after this gets a bit more progressive, tribal, darker and heavier with a few bright spots thrown in here and there to keep the vibe alive. I'm pretty much booked solid the rest of the week, so I won't be providing any further commentary. Instead, I'll just let each set speak for itself and hopefully, you guys can fill in my silence with your own comments, good or bad. Hey, I'm a big boy and haven't even come close to earning "diva" status yet, so I try to learn from other people's critiques.
Enough blabbing.on to the music!

The final mix in this year's Beach House series is a culmination of the two previous mixes but with a more funky attitude and some Latin and Jazzy beats thrown in for good measure. I guess this pretty much does it for now but rest assured I am currently compiling the Summer Edition, which I'm hoping to have out late next week. I have a HUGE week ahead of me with something big happening every day. I will no doubt be a very busy boy so we'll see how I can rectify that and manage to get the next series out. Since I want everyone to have a slammin' summer, I'll do my best.
I'll be bringing you guys some kick-ass circuit tunes soon enough. Until then, have a fabulous weekend and as always...Enjoy!

Beach House Edition 2009 Volume 4
Tuesday Jul 07, 2009
Tuesday Jul 07, 2009
Originally, the T-Dance version of Beach House was going to be two very long mixes, but I decided to go ahead and break it up into three. Granted, anyone with a little know-how can stack each one right after the other because the whole thing mixes flawlessly. I spared nothing in this mix and you can rest assured that you're getting the latest and greatest from this summer's house music scene. All the usual suspects are included: from top-notch producers like DJ Spen and the Muthafunkaz, Richard Earnshaw, Mark Picchiotti, Joey Negro, Moto Blanco and 7th Heaven to top-notch talents like Lisa Shaw, Heather Johnston, Michelle Weeks, Dawn Tallman, Shena and newcomer Mishal Moore, you will want for not. Granted, you may notice that DJ Meme is nowhere to be found. That's because his remix of "Sittin' on Top of the World" by the Sunburst Band doesn't show up until next week. Such is life. I've also included a fabulous Frankie Knuckles remix of "Rock with You" the closest I'll come to honoring the memory of Michael Jackson.
While the overall tone of this first mix is pretty subdued and laid-back, I jolt you back into reality with an updated version of Evelyn Thomas' classic 'High Energy' courtesy of the always fabulous Almighty Production team, late in the mix. I employ a similar tactic in mix three just to keep people on their toes. Overall, this is one fresh and funky mix with a lot of soul that's perfect for relaxing around the pool or at the beach. I'll try to get everything out by Friday, but I'm not making any promises. Until then.enjoy!

Beach House 2009 | Volume 2
Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
Wednesday Jul 01, 2009
Moving along with volume 2 of the Beach House edition, I try to kick things up a notch. Standouts include "Stuck With Each Other" by Shontelle (though I would have preferred a duet with maybe Ne-Yo or even Chris Brown over Akon any day), "Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)" which needs no introduction, the 2009 update of Haddaway's 90's classic "What Is Love" (for obvious reasons), the smoking HOT "New In Town" by Little Boots (which hasn't reached our shores just yet), Ladyhawke's "Back of the Van" who I'm beginning to appreciate more and more and "If You Want My Love" by Soul Avengerz and Max C an irresistible combination of electro-funk. Frankly, there's not a bad song here. Just look at everything else as the super-glue that holds this mix together.
I've got more stuff coming down the pike the next couple of days, so I'll do my best to get the third in this BPM series out by the weekend. Next week, you can count on the Beach House edition going T-Dance to round out your summer fun. The first three should be more than enough to fill up your holiday parties this 4th of July.
In the meantime, just hang tight.Friday's coming.enjoy!

Beach House 2009 | Volume 1
Tuesday Jun 30, 2009
Tuesday Jun 30, 2009
With the kickoff of the Beach House series, I'd have to say that the summer parties have begun! After pouring through hundreds of promos, my ears started to bleed. There is no shortage of girls or girl groups with thin voices disguised as the "vocal enhancer" technology that is so overused in today's music. Hell, even Mariah employed it on her latest lame-ass single "Obsessive". Frankly, these labels don't even need talent anymore, just some hot chicks and wannabe rappers who are more than willing to pimp themselves out for their fifteen minutes and you got yourself a record. The more you pump out, the more likely you're going to stumble on a hit. Such is the case with the Paradiso Girls' "Patron Tequila". Don't get me wrong, songs like that are a lot of fun, but realistically, it just doesn't cost the labels that much to put something like this out. So, after going through all the promos, I had to make decisions about what's hot and what's not. Otherwise, you would end up with three mixes of songs that all pretty much sound the same. Instead, I mixed in some harder electro and underground tunes that might otherwise not ever see the light of day. I then sprinkled some progressive tunes that were lost due to the deletion of the System Edition, and what you end up with is something that's fresh and funky and contains enough variety to keep you interested. Hey, I'm not tooting my horn, but I knocked these three mixes out from 3:30 AM Saturday til 1:00 Sunday afternoon. The end result is freaking smoking!
Personal favorites include the Noisettes' "Don't Upset the Rhythm", DBN and Madita's "Asteroids", Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams", EliZe's "Can't You Fee It", Lal Meri's "Bad Things", The Kahile Project's "Magic Carpet" no that's not a remake of the 90s Bardeaux classic and Riva's "For How Long".
I've got two more to bring to you by Friday and I'll follow up next week with the T-Dance version of Beach House. Though hot, the weather has been amazing since yesterday with clear blue skies, light breeze, cool mornings, and most importantly smog! I'm hoping it can sustain this through the Fourth of July weekend, but likely not.
Anywho, I'll try to get back tomorrow with part 2 of this mix. Until then...Enjoy!

A Deep Dive into Freemasons Volume 2
Friday Jun 26, 2009
Friday Jun 26, 2009
Let's immerse ourselves in the sensational world of Freemasons, the venerated architects behind some of the most iconic House tracks we know today. Their musical ingenuity became evident with the release of their 2007 album "Shakedown," which they followed with the equally captivating "Shakedown II." If you think the Freemasons are only about remixes, think again; their portfolio houses unreleased jewels that hint at their broader musical agenda.
My own passion for club music was reignited by the Freemasons, a force that restored my faith after I heard "Mesmerized" by Faith Evans at a local bar. Truly, they are the reason this blog exists, and the creative geniuses who reinvigorated a sense of musical wonder in so many like myself.
But enough about me—let's talk about their career milestones. Their expansive repertoire ranges from the invigorating "Pjanoo" by Eric Prydz to the emotionally stirring "In My Mind" by Heather Headley. If you're in the mood for something electrifying, you can't go wrong with their outstanding remix of Beyonce's "Deja Vu" or "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) by Sophie Ellis-Bextor."
Freemasons' artistry transcends mere remixing. Their masterful integration of vocals and instrumentation has turned original tracks into anthems. They have given their signature touch to chart-busting numbers like "Watchin' with Amanda Wilson" and even breathed life into classics like "Here Comes The Rain Again" by Eurythmics whose lead singer Annie Lennox graces our Diva Hall of Fame.
Beyond remixes, they've also collaborated with other prominent musicians, bringing a unique twist to each partnership. For example, their work on Disco classic "Love Sensation '06" by Loleatta Holloway showcases their ability to blend their contemporary style with classic dance rhythms.
In summation, Freemasons have sculpted a monumental space for themselves in the realm of House music. They're not just remixers; they are bona fide musical maestros whose work transcends genres and eras, serving as both an inspiration and a standard for aspiring musicians.
For those who are eagerly waiting, be prepared for more exhilarating mixes that capture the spirit of Gay Pride from our various releases this season. Let's celebrate life, love, and dance music at all the pride events happening around the globe. I'm certain Freemasons will be headlining one of them.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

The Ingenious Journey of Freemasons in House Music — Volume 1
Thursday Jun 25, 2009
Thursday Jun 25, 2009
If you've ever found yourself lost in the kaleidoscopic soundscape of house music, chances are you've stumbled upon the dynamic work of Freemasons. As architects of genre-bending beats and compelling remixes, this British duo—consisting of Russell Small and James Wiltshire—has left an indelible mark on the dance floor.
For starters, their touch on Luther Vandross' "Shine" transforms the soulful classic into an electrifying anthem. Their interpretation not only elevates the track but offers a new facet of Vandross’ vocal prowess.
Dirty Old Ann's "Turn Me On" is another masterstroke by Freemasons. Their remix adds nuance and rhythmic intricacy, setting an atmosphere that feels like a high-octane midnight drive. It's reimagining, not just remixing.
Kelly Rowland's "Work" also received the Freemasons treatment. The remix accentuates the danceable elements of the song, turning it into a pulsating rhythm escapade that remains a staple in clubs across the globe.
Freemasons didn't shy away from an eclectic palette, either. Take Funk Fanatics and Peyton's "Love Is The Answer." Their version brought an appealing twist to the song, adding layers of house-inflected melody and a driving beat that epitomizes danceable euphoria.
They've also lent their remix talents to Angie Stone's "I Wasn't Kidding," maintaining the core elements while injecting a club-ready liveliness that gives it a fresh and invigorating feel.
Collaborating with Amanda Wilson on "Love On My Mind," the Freemasons created an instant classic. The track is intricately crafted, laced with infectious rhythms and topped with Wilson's soul-stirring vocals.
Not to be overlooked, their work on Beyonce's "Greenlight" redefined the song as a club anthem. The Freemasons Club Vox version perfectly encapsulates the duo’s ability to refashion a pop track into a house music jewel.
From Supafly Inc.'s "Moving Too Fast" to Faith Evans' gay anthem "Mesmerized," and all the way to their 2006 touch on Barbara Tucker's "Most Precious Love," Freemasons continue to wield an unparalleled influence in the house music sphere.
Through their distinctive, genre-defying style, Freemasons have taken house music into uncharted territory. From dynamic collaborations to their captivating remixes, they have established themselves as stalwarts of the house music scene, continually redefining what the genre can be.
This is the first of two volumes honoring these House Music virtuosos and the second honoring the talents of artists and DJs (living or deceased) who have made massive contributions to House Music. It is our greatest honor to induct Freemasons into our Legacy series.

Pride 2009 v3
We've finally reached the 6th and final volume of the 2009 Gay Pride Edition. Frankly, I'm about all gay(ed) out LOL! Too much gay can be, well too much. Okay, maybe not but it's time to move on to other things. I'm going to be taking a much-needed break from this site while I focus my attention on other projects. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere; I just need a little time off from mixing. For that reason, I will not give any definite dates as to when the next BPM edition will come out. I don't like putting myself on a timeline and think it works out much better that way. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and have a HAPPY GAY PRIDE!

Pride 2009 v1
...and finally, I'm serving up some of the best in mainstream and underground electro, funky and progressive house of the year with our Gay Pride Edition 2008 volume 5. Once again, this isn't everything, but a very good sampling spread out over two mixes. After all, gay people don't always listen to tribal and circuit music with screaming divas, sometimes we like things quite a bit differently. Hey, I'm all about diversity, the more the better. So for those of you who prefer the electro-funk in your trunk, then this one's for you! I'll be back tomorrow with the sixth and final installment of Pride. Until then...Enjoy!

Gay Pride Edition 2009 Volume 4

As I get myself back on track, I decided to put out what would have been the last mix next. Why? Because I live for fun, funky house music. It'll "lift you up, spin you around, make you feel like you never did before." Besides, what's a good Gay Pride collection without T-Dance? Handpicked by yours truly, these are some of the very best in funky house that had my brain on constant repeat during the winter and spring. Many of the gems included here like Maiysha's "Chase" and Lisa Mack's "Kiss Me" didn't quite receive the attention I felt they deserved. Since I realize that my best of comps get a lot of attention, this is my chance to bring these to a wider audience. One listen and I think you'll agree.
It's hard to make any promises about the two remaining mixes, but for the BPM crowd, I've already completed the tracklist and just need to start working it out. I'll try to have one out tomorrow, but don't hold me two it. Frankly, I've been so busy I really need to finish these up so I can take an extended break before I jump in with July. I will let you know that I've got a lot of great stuff lined up for the month. You'll be getting the next BPM, T-Dance, and Summer Editions in no particular order. It all depends on what I'm expecting to be released and when it actually comes out.
As we break for the long hot and sticky weekend, I hope everyone is staying cool. Have a great one and I'll be back a.s.a.p. with the final two mixes.
Until then...Enjoy!
