EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

Gay Pride Edition 2009 Volume 2
Monday Jun 15, 2009
Monday Jun 15, 2009
You may have noticed that I changed the album cover on volume one of this series. I've decided to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. Apparently, he allowed a high-ranking official, not coincidentally who is gay, to do an interview with the Advocate, in which he outlined their strategy for getting everything passed and the reason behind the delay. Being a fair and honest person, I've decided not to promote the dissent that has been apparent on many blogs like Towleroad. So for now, I'll take a wait-and-see approach.
In the meantime, I've got volume two for you guys. This has been a long day and I just need to relax; especially after opening my mail to find a ticket from the great city of Atlanta for running a red light. Yeah, they got me. It's my first ticket in five years, and it still sucks! I'll be back tomorrow with volume three of the 2009 Gay Pride Edition. Until then...Enjoy!

Gay Pride Edition 2009 Volume 1
Sunday Jun 14, 2009
Sunday Jun 14, 2009
Okay, folks, we've got a BIG week ahead of us. Starting today, you get one Gay Pride mix a day through Friday. The first three sets will lean heavily toward the mainstream circuit crowd, while the final three will be a combination of my BPM and T-Dance series. As previously mentioned, the songs contained in all six sets will be a culmination of the best of 2009 so far. Granted, these are my picks and everything here is subjective. For the most part, I'll do my best to not disappoint.
Once again, I am very pleased with the album art I created for each mix. The idea behind each one is to inspire and hopefully get you to think. Obviously, the little slogans I included pertain to real issues affecting the LGBT community. While it's not my intent to offend anyone, if you are, I don't really give a rat's ass. As far as I'm concerned, equal rights for gays and lesbians in the civil rights issue of the millennium. It is quite possibly the last hurdle for the United States to overcome and keep the promises that are prominently laid out in our Constitution. While I am not here to preach, I do try to express myself in a way that hopefully will give pause to many of you. For the most part, we can choose to be complacent and allow the hypocritical Christian right to dictate our lives, or we can become engaged and fight for what's rightfully ours. For those that may not be aware, the dates have been announced for the march on Washington for equality. There is no time like the present to make our voices heard. Click on the picture below and learn about ways you can make a difference.
Alright, I'm off my soapbox and on to other news. I want to give a shoutout to all the people that have contributed to my little site. Your donations have gone a long way in helping with the costs of hosting my podcasts. Here's the list: Paul C. $10; Ian K. $10.00; Debra W. $5.00; Glenn A. $15.00; David B. $10; Gary K. $25.00; Anthony S. $50.00; Britton T. $20.00; Lovett T. $7.00; Cristian DV $5.00; David HS $30.00; Leonard S. $7.50 Your support allows me to continue doing what it is I enjoy more than anything, and for that I am grateful.
One last thing: Due to the nature of the mixes and the amount of time involved in putting out six podcasts in one week, none of these will be edited down to 80 minutes like most of my mixes. That's a time-consuming process and I'd rather get everything out in a timely manner while balancing life's other activities. I'll be back to posting standard mixes beginning with the next series (most likely BPM). Now, on with the music.

Kylie Minogue 2009 | The Diva Series
Saturday Jun 13, 2009
Saturday Jun 13, 2009
Anyone who has read my blog for a while now knows that I have never been a huge fan of Kylie Minogue. Not because of any particular reason, but mainly because I was unfamiliar with her music. I'd have to say that if it weren't for the countless requests by you folks for a Diva Series featuring Kylie, this would have never been done.
After putting together this mix, I can now honestly say "I get it." I have been listening to this mix pretty much all week when I should have been previewing the mixes I was making for my upcoming Pride Edition. Not unlike Madonna or even Britney Spears, there is magic here and the legions of obsessive fans that support Kylie is not only understandable but undeniable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN15fZDuSsI
For the most part, this mix fell together quite easily. The varying styles of productions show a wide range of trends throughout the years; including mainstream, circuit, electro, and even progressive house. Presented all in one, it shows the diversity and willingness to maintain her public identity by keeping up with the times.
There is no doubt that Kylie has had a remarkable impact on dance music and therefore I present and honor her with an induction into the Diva Hall of Fame.
Ladies and gentlemen . . . Miss Kylie Minogue.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

DJ Meme Tribute Dance Mix: Volume 2
Wednesday Jun 10, 2009
Wednesday Jun 10, 2009
Following up on yesterday's post, I've got the second installment of the Tribute Dance Mix to DJ Meme. The majority of the songs in this mix are taken from 2005 to 2007.
They also show a greater diversity that includes, house, deep house, soulful, gospel, and a lot of Latin beats. There are a couple of more recent hits like last year's amazing "Chanson Du Soleil" with Gavin Bradley and the more recent #1 Traxsource hits "Any Love" with Rachel Claudio and "Near the Ocean" with Robin S.
I told you yesterday that Mariah Carey's "Butterfly" would not be included only to have one of our followers Peter P. from the UK slipped me a CD rip of the song. I guess I stand corrected, it must have been available at one point in time. Usually, you can find these in Amazon's used CD store, but there were none to be had. Nevertheless, for posterity's sake, the song from 1998 has been included and is quite possibly one of DJ Meme's earliest commercial mixes that I've seen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EovVxB5rs00
You also get a French take of the classic Carol Douglas disco hit "Doctor's Orders" by the fabulous Hanna Hais and a slew of Brazilian language tunes which border on French and Spanish. Collectively, this is a solid mix that will lift your spirits and brighten your soul.
It's with much love and devotion to this man's tireless work recreating the authentic Disco experience that Party Favorz honors the amazing DJ Meme into our Legacy series with this second volume of a Tribute dance mix.
Until the next time... ENJOY!

DJ Meme Tribute Dance Mix: Volume 1
Monday Jun 08, 2009
Monday Jun 08, 2009
I admire if not, in fact, worship several prominent DJs and their work, but none more than DJ Meme. From the Latin beats of his native Brazil to the uplifting disco-house romps that recall the now infamous Salsoul Orchestra, his productions always leave me in a state of amazement if not euphoria. Blending new technology with old school, he manages to create a warmth that is seriously missing in today's electronic music. Taking those extra steps to add real strings and/or brass, things that synthesizers have long since replaced, he manages to capture the magic that was once isolated to the 70s. As such, Party Favorz decided to honor him with a Tribute Dance Mix.
Maybe my fascination with his style is because it captures an era that I was not a part of. What I do know, is that he isn't finished yet. I'd say he's just getting started. While it is not uncommon for many producers to reach back into their bag of goodies from the 70s and 80s, none do it with the care and precision that DJ Meme does. He has a passion for making quality house music; one listen and you'll know why.
This Tribute Dance Mix is perfect for a poolside party, and I think they are just what you need to get your summer started. I hope everyone can appreciate the effort and magic that are poured into each selection. I'll be back Wednesday with part two.
Until then... ENJOY!

Gay Days Edition 2009 Volume 3
Friday Jun 05, 2009
Friday Jun 05, 2009
It's Friday so let the parties begin! At this point, Gay Days should be in full swing and I'm sending up the final mix that should keep things going well into the morning. So let's get to it.
For the most part, this mix takes on a little more subdued tone. In fact, you might even consider this a winddown mix; just with enough oomph to carry you through to 5 AM. Kicking things off, Avri and Johanna's "Love Again" is a smart piece where the protagonist declares that she can no longer be with the person she loved for so long. Midnight Society turns in an uncharacteristically low key circuit number that frankly suits the song well. This is followed by TYNY and Jerumus with Josie Vie on "What You Do To Me". I simply love this song. Miss Vie's sexy vocals are upfront and honest on this electro number. Personally, I think this deserves more attention than it's getting at the moment, but it's still relatively new, so we'll see. Many of you may remember Lakisha Jones as a finalist from American Idol's sixth season. Well, her album finally dropped in May with the lead single "Let's Go Celebrate". The original is fresh but not much different from a crowded field of the same at top 40. Nevertheless, it should do well. What really bugs me is that she is an amazingly gifted singer, but for some reason, her producers felt it was necessary to put her voice through that vocoder thingy that is very common with artists that frankly can't sing. In fact, you wouldn't even recognize her if it weren't for the fact that her name accompanies the album. Friscia and Lamboy who have been m.i.a. as of late, return with their own brand of electro-circuit style production that works oh so well for this song. I expect this will not only do extremely well in the clubs but on the charts as well.
Following up "Here I Am" Matt Zarley returns with a remake of the Steve Winwood classic "While You See A Chance". With this being one of my all-time favorite songs, I was concerned about it getting some sort of circuit style treatment. Apparently, so were the remixers involved in this project. Why? They toned it down making it more of a tea dance style party mix. Solar City and Mark Picchiotti both did outstanding mixes that will compete for my next T-Dance Edition. So that left me with Twisted Dee who equally did an outstanding job though her version is a little more primetime. The "morning" used in the title suggests wind down, which is why it's on this set. After repeated listens, I really like Matt's vocals and the variety of mixes that accompanied the package. This is a grower and definitely a keeper.
Those of you that follow the BPM Editions, may remember the fabulous Sabrina Johnston's take of "Peace in the Valley" with the Soulshakers doing the remix honors. Well, it looks like Michelle Weeks also wanted to give it a stab and instead of taking the funky route, she and Orienta-Rhythm deliver some soul-satisfying hard hitting house. I honestly really like both versions for competing reasons. Trust me on this one.
As I had previously mentioned, DJ Paulo is all over the place lately and is turning out some high-quality mixes in the process. "Circles" is an absolute stunner reminiscent of Joey Negro's take on Sessomatto and Thelma Houston's "I Need Somebody". Probably a song I should reintroduce sometime this summer because I love it so much. Anywho, lovin' them "Circles". Another one I've been all over is Andrea Carnell's "Up Your Heart" which apparently came out in late December last year. However, it wasn't until April of this year when Danny Verde released an e.p. of his best mixes that this song started gaining traction and rightfully so. As usual, the vocals are impeccable and the hook will suck you in.
Finally, The Perry Twins and Niki Haris release a second set of mixes for their spring monster "Bad Bad Boy". The Edson Pride monster mix is a definite winner for peak time mayhem,

I'm sorry for the delay, but this has been a very long and difficult day and frankly, I'm exhausted. Regardless, I wanted to make sure I got this out to you folks before I sit back and relax for the evening. As a result, I won't go into detail this time around about the music, just know this is quite darker and heavier with a few sweet house tunes thrown in for good measure. I don't have anything on my agenda for tomorrow, so I should be able to get the final mix out in a timely manner. I understand a lot of you guys have already headed out to Orlando. So, if you're already there, have a great time and if you're on your way tomorrow, get ready to party. I'll make sure I do my part. Until then, enjoy!

Gay Days Edition 2009 Volume 1
Wednesday Jun 03, 2009
Wednesday Jun 03, 2009
Gay Days are here again and I'm bringing along the tunes to complete the party! Whereas last year I did First Splash and then the Pride Editions in June, this year and going forward will focus on Gay Days just after Memorial Day Weekend.
Because there are so many festivities around this time, I thought it would be best to just focus on one of them and that can actually be the soundtrack for your Pride festivities as well. Now, that doesn't mean you won't be getting any Pride mixes, because you will. If you remember my post at the beginning of the year, I had come to the conclusion that whipping out eight or so mixes for the Year-End Edition was a bit much.
So, I decided that by mid-year (December through May) I would put out a series of mixes that will be focused on Pride but will be more like a Mid-Year Edition. Don't worry, you still get your Summer Edition which will be out sometime in July. Due to the amount of music, I process and the variety of genres, this seemed like the most plausible way to handle this. Frankly, many of the songs that will appear on the Pride Edition are still hot and being played around the world, so they're still pretty much fresh.
Right now, it's all about Gay Days. If you've never been out to Orlando, this IS a blast and something you should really check out. I'm a sucker for rollercoasters and fun scary rides; so hanging out at Walt Disney World all day is pure enjoyment. Then, off to Pleasure Island for a night of fun and frolicking; not to mention all the other parties going on around the area at the same time.
I was going for an elongated, dramatic effect in these three mixes and I do believe I've achieved that. I've managed to throw together a spice bowl of circuit, progressive, mainstream, and electro house with a squeeze of funky and updated classics to keep it interesting. After all, who wants each song to be someone pounding on the drums? To me, that get's a little monotonous.
Starting out a little slower than usual, we get an update from Jocelyn Brown of her 1984 classic "Somebody Else's Guy" which is bound to please her fans. Then we switch into progressive mode with Safire's "Exotique" which was recently featured in my last BPM Edition.
Probably one of the songs that are blowing up everywhere right now is "Goodbye" by Kristinia DeBarge. DJ Paulo delivers this HUGE room mix that truly satisfies. However, it's the oh so familiar hook that will have the boys singing long after the party is over. "Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey.Goodbye". If that sounds familiar it should. The chorus was plucked from the 1969 pop hit of the same name by Steam. If this isn't already big where you're at, trust me, it will be by the time summer is over.
Of course, what would a gay celebration be without Cher? Courtesy of the ultra hot Wayne G, we get a 2009 re-work of "Believe" which brings song full circle ten years later. DJ Paulo and Alain Jackinsky take a stab at the recent number one "Boom" by Anjulie and work this puppy out for the big room crowd. I have to say, I am mighty impressed with Paulo's recent work so much so, he'll be one of a handful to watch in 2009.
Previously, I had wet your buds with the Almighty mix of Wynonna's "Sing". Now, we taking it up several notches with Jody Den Broeder's mix. His mix is definitely for the late-night crowd and still manages to retain the uplifting spirit of the original. BIG is how I would best describe it. Ceevox continues her work with poet turned clubmaster, Jimmy D. Robinson on "At Midnight". Though lower in stature, I'm totally feeling this song as I haven't been able to get it out of my head. It's just a great song, no if and or buts.
Georgie Porgie is back with "I Believe in Love" which is another uplifting number but, with Bryan Reyes doing the remix honors, it takes on a more urgent and powerful stance. Always a fan of the Georgie, this one does not disappoint. Finally,

Kristine W: The Powerhouse Diva Who Revolutionized the Dance Floor
Monday Jun 01, 2009
Monday Jun 01, 2009
In the grand pantheon of dance music, few artists encapsulate the blend of vocal prowess, commercial appeal, and LGBTQ+ affinity quite like Kristine W. From her early years in the Miss America pageant to lighting up the Las Vegas strip with her enduring show, Kristine W has walked a multifaceted path to stardom, leaving a lasting impact on dance floors and jazz lounges alike.
Kristine W's story isn't your run-of-the-mill "overnight success" narrative; it's a blend of determination, talent, and engagement with diverse audiences. Her initial entry into the public eye via the Miss America pageant wasn't just a beauty contest but a showcase for her voice. Yet it was her Las Vegas show, a long-running affair, that truly encapsulated her versatility as a performer, effortlessly moving from pop bangers to sultry jazz numbers.
A significant part of her allure has always been her steadfast and ardent following among gay men. She resonates with our community not just because she’s a fabulous performer, but because her music often speaks to the gay experience—of love, loss, hope, and the power of self-acceptance. It's not just a fanbase; it's a relationship built on mutual respect and shared experiences.
What really sets Kristine W apart in the dance music universe is her extraordinary voice. Capable of navigating high-energy beats as easily as smoky jazz tones, her vocal talent is a force to be reckoned with. This chameleon-like ability has made her a go-to collaborator for heavyweight DJs keen to bring depth and emotion to the electronic soundscape.
When it comes to songs that have defined her career, "Feel What You Want" comes to mind immediately. Remixed by Junior Vasquez, his remix is a triumph in merging vocal emotionality with infectious beats guaranteeing its status as an enduring gay anthem. Then there’s “One More Try,” as song about mistakes and regrets re-energized in Rollo’s remix, giving it an additional touch of dance-floor euphoria.
“Land Of The Living” and “The Boss” are other stellar tracks that received the remix treatment from Junior Vasquez and Love to Infinity, respectively, and turned into club anthems. The inescapable connection between "Land of the Living" at a time when gay men were given a second chance with the newly available HIV medications (whether incidental or not) was the empowerment and defiance we needed at an uncertain time in our history. Her remake of the Diana Ross disco classic "The Boss" was just the iceing on the cake of for relationship empowerment but fun and frivolity on the the dance floor.
Yet, her collaboration with Tony Moran on "The Power Of Music" stands out as a sonic monument to what makes Kristine W a powerhouse on the dance floor. The ML Club Mix taps into the joy and liberation that encapsulates the essence of dance music. Not to be outdone, “Some Lovin’” and “The Wonder Of It All” received the magic touch from Peter Rauhofer and Offer Nissim, respectively, each highlighting different facets of her vocal strengths.
With such a portfolio, it’s no wonder Kristine W ranks among the top 10 artists with an outstanding 17 #1 Billboard Dance Club songs. She's not just a dance diva; she’s a multifaceted artist whose influence and appeal have stood the test of time.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

T-Dance Edition 2009 Volume 3 (Take 4)

I'm serving up the final installment of this edition and need to take a much-needed break. However, since Rick is out of town for the next week or so, why bother? So, I've designated this next week as DIVA week. I've already done some preliminary mixing and as difficult as some of this old stuff is, I think it'll pretty much rock. I just need to go back and do a bunch of prep work on the mixes to get them into high-quality shape for your listening pleasure. That part is very time consuming but the added value to the sound is 200% worth the effort. I'm not giving out any names or dates; let's just say they'll show up when they show up.
Right now, I've got a bunch of hard-hitting funk and soul for you guys. I'm not going to spend a lot of space this go around, so I'll just throw out some of the hard hitters here: Danny Howells and Dick Trevor with Erire "Dusk Til Dawn", Inaya Day and Ralf Gum "Reap", The Collective vs. Peyton "Promised Land", Sweet Mercy and Veba "Take Your Time (Do It Right)", Kaskade "It's You, It's Me", Ollie Brooke with Nica Brooke "Fireflies" and The Muthafunkaz with Sheila Ford and Biblical Jones "Galaxy" are all personal favorites. Frankly, there's not a bad tune in the bunch and everything flows as smoothly as a glass of iced tea on a hot summer day.
I hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend. I'll back very soon with the first of the next DIVA installment. Take care, have fun, stay cool and as always.enjoy!

T-Dance Edition 2009 Volume 3 (Take 3)

Transitioning into the more soulful side of house, we're working our way up to the weekend. Starting things off, we've got the always amazing vocal talents of Andrea Love with the Praise Cats. "Shined On Me" is a wonderful slice of gospel house full of meaning and uplifting spirituality. In fact, the first four songs pretty much cover that same territory with some heavy hitters like Ron Caroll, Robert Owens and yes, even the fabulous Evelyn (Champagne) King who climbed back into the business last year.
Switching gears, Joey Negro takes us on a piano-pounding house stomping ride with "Ride the Rhythm" followed by a surprisingly successful Prince remake "When Doves Cry" by Yass. Dropping the tempo a bit, we move into some deep house with Jake Island and Alec Sun Dre's "Can You Feel It" followed by the uplifting "Don't Stop" by Kwality Kontrol and Alana Bridgewater.
I decided to break away and move into the garage funk of Joey Negro's 'Sunburst Band' and "Man of War". If I had to describe this song, I'd say it was a mashup between Isaac Hayes and Edwin Starr. Steeped in 70s funk, Joey has a knack for making something old sound fresh again. In order to keep things moving, I spice things up a bit with the Latin sounds of Da Lata and Diabel Cissokho's "This Is Not Your Job" and the classic "Cada Vez by Negrocan. Not to be complacent, I quickly move into the old-time (we're talking 20s maybe 30s) style of "Why Don't You" by GramophoneDzie. Clearly, this is some sort of mashup stripped from a very old 78 (your great grandparent's records) and sliced and sampled together with some house. The end result is amazing!
Finally, I slip back into some new jack funk with "I Gotcha Back" by Charles Dockins before closing it out with the soulful sounds of Byron Stingily's latest "100% Stalkin U". Through and through, this is a solid house number that will have the purest among you snapping your fingers and tapping your toes.
I'll be heading out shortly to take Rick to the Birmingham airport. It seems his mother is not doing so well and isn't expected to be with us much longer. So, he's flying back to south Texas to be with her for about a week. We're seldom ever apart, but I understand. So, I'll try to keep myself busy over the course of the next week and attempt to knock out some of those Diva mixes I had been promising everyone. We still have one more T-Dance to go and I'll be sure to deliver that just in time for the weekend tomorrow. Until then.enjoy!

T-Dance Edition 2009 Volume 3 (Take 2)
Wednesday May 20, 2009

Keeping up with the theme of take 1, this mix remains on the more commercial funky side of the T-Dance series. The first three songs are a bit tougher and could have easily fit in with the BPM mixes. Sometimes, I don't know why I move certain songs to the T-Dance folder as opposed to the BPM folder, but I suppose there must be a method to my madness.
Regardless, Musiq Soulchild and Mary J. Blige are currently riding high with the very hot "IfULeave". This former #1 on Masterbeat's club charts is just now making its move up the Billboard charts and I expect will ultimately land the top spot sometime this summer. Ono's "I'm Not Getting Enough" is an unlikely candidate for this mix, but I have to say, Eddie Amador took this song in a completely different direction than the rest of the mixes. While he retains the overall darkness of the original, the pumps in this groovy house vibe throughout thus qualifying the song to be included.
On the campier side, Natalie Powers delivers a reliable interpretation of Laura Branigan's "Shattered Glass" and the Klubkidz with Sam Solace equally turn in a reliable rendition of "It's My Time" originally performed by Jade Ewen, winner of the 2009 Eurovision contest. If it sounds like a Broadway show tune, that's because it was written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Diana Warren. The funny thing is, I can't help but think of Diana Ross' "It's My Turn" every time I hear it. I don't know, you be the judge.
Moving along, Stephane and 3G deliver a serious booty shaker with "We Don't Wanna Put In." Mood Velvet and Janet Gray tackle a remake of the Hot Chocolate classic "Every 1's a Winner" set to what sounds like the original mix for Faith Evans' "Mesmerized" by Freemasons.
Nevertheless, it works quite well and since it's been long enough, I don't think most people will even notice. Finally, one of the hot songs of the moment is by Wynonna (of Judd's fame). Taking a page from Leann Rimes handbook, she took the song "Sing" and had a plethora of producers come in and remix it for the dancefloor. Almighty takes the cake for this mix, though expect Jody's version to show up on the Gay Days edition in a couple of weeks.
That about does it for today. Tomorrow, we'll be moving towards the pure house I had promised. I've already listened to take 3 several times while running errands and I am quite pleased. I'm certain the diehards amongst you will be as well. I'll be back tomorrow with the next set. Until then, enjoy!
