EDM & House Music: Party Favorz (Circuit, Funky & Dance Classics)

Party Favorz is a dance music podcast and mix series, founded by Keith (aka K j A M), that has been producing and distributing mixes since 2007.
The project’s origins trace back to 1999 in South Texas, where Keith was DJing at a gay bar. After-hours parties were a local staple, and Keith’s branded mix CDs became known as "party favorz"—a nickname that stuck.
The podcast was born by accident on a music-focused blog. Encouraged by friends, Keith’s blogging evolved into Party Favorz, a brand now connecting disco, house, EDM, and circuit trends to a global audience.
At its heart, Party Favorz is about celebration and inclusiveness. No matter who you are, there’s a place for you on the dance floor. It's about providing a soundtrack that serves any moment in your life—whether you're at the gym, poolside, or simply in need of joy.
So, crank it up and get the party started!

The Eternal Allure of the Pet Shop Boys: A Tribute Mix
Sunday Feb 08, 2009
Sunday Feb 08, 2009
The allure of the Pet Shop Boys is eternal; it’s a fact I was vividly reminded of during a laid-back evening with Rick, my other half and the ultimate 'pethead' among us. He was stirring up something magical in the kitchen while I queued up a mega-mix of PSB tracks I'd crafted back in 2007. The beats and melodies filled the room, serving as a reminder of the duo's indelible mark on synth-pop, new wave, and dance music across generations.
Let’s be honest; blending songs from different decades, each with its own BPM and style, is no easy feat. But that's what makes Pet Shop Boys unique—their ability to transcend time and genre. Crafting this mega-mix was akin to maneuvering through a musical obstacle course, which is why I leaned on 'Hot Tracks' and 'Razormaid' mixes to give the set a more club-friendly vibe.
As we sat back and savored our dinner and drinks, the track "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money)" filled the room, a poignant reminder of the band’s early dalliances with ironic social commentary. Next up was "Love Comes Quickly," a dance mix capturing the ephemeral nature of affection. Then, "West End Girls," a Sasha remix offering, took us back to the heart of 1980s London. The set continued to evolve with one of my favorite songs from their catalog like "Being Boring," paying homage to times gone by, and "Go West," which carried the unmistakable echoes of a world moving towards new beginnings. Then again, it was more of patronage to the gay mecca Key West in South Florida or even San Francisco — take your pick.
The Pet Shop Boys—Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe—formed in London in 1981. They burst onto the scene with their debut album "Please" and never looked back. Over the years, their lyrical genius and pioneering electronic beats have resonated with diverse audiences, earning them Brit Awards, a devoted fan base, and even a place in theatrical productions.
I’m sure everyone has their stories about where they were, what they were doing or even their first gay kiss while listening to PSB. I’m not sure where I read this, but several years ago I came across an article about ten ways to tell if your boyfriend is gay. One of the things on the list is if his CD collection had Madonna’s “Immaculate Collection”, Erasure’s “Pop! 20 Hits” or “Discography: The Complete Singles Collection” by the dynamic duo.
So whether you're listening to "Paninaro '95" for its haunting beats or "New York City Boy" for its disco-fueled tempo, each song offers a window into the rich tapestry of human emotion. The genius of the Pet Shop Boys lies not just in their ability to craft hits, but in their knack for capturing the zeitgeist, for understanding that each of us, in our way, is looking for opportunities, love, and a sense of belonging.
Until the next time...ENJOY!

BPM Edition 2009 Volume 1 | Take 5
Friday Feb 06, 2009
Friday Feb 06, 2009
Wrapping up the final installment of BPM Edition 2009 v1, I take you on a journey of some serious electro-funk. As promised, I've added some sweet re-makes from the '90s. First up, is the Buzz Junkies' take on the massive Darude classic "Sandstorm". Okay, that song is really early millennium, so it's a couple of years off, but who's counting?
Anywho, for those too young to remember, this was so big, it even got played on Top 40 radio. It spurned so many remixes (official and unofficial) it was nauseating. Then came the mashups. OMG, I can't begin to tell you how many of those there were (and you thought "Pjanoo" mashups were overdone).
Regardless, the BJs took this one by the horn and blow it through the roof! Then we've got "Sweet Dreams" a remake of the LaBouche classic, though the vocals aren't up to par when compared to Melanie Thornton (may she rest in peace), but the ReCover Project lay on a nice electro layer and dropped the cheesy rap for the perfect trip down memory lane that can still fill floors.
This, of course, is followed by the Ruffneck classic "Everybody Be Somebody" which made an appearance on one of my 90's classic editions from last year. Thomas Gold and Matthias Menck give it a serious electro workout that's not only worthy of the original but damn near surpasses it! I also had two 80's remakes ("Electric Avenue" and "She Blinded Me with Science") that were decent enough, but still not worthy of this mix.
Possibly the biggest surprise in this category is "Magic" by Vinny Troia & Dave Aude. Why? Because this is actually a remake of an old Barry Manilow tune "Could This Be Magic" from the seventies that was later turned into a #1 disco hit for none other than Donna Summer. Granted, they dropped the over-the-top drama of Barry's original and left out the sweeping strings of Donna's version, and just left the lyrics, re-creating a different song altogether. Is it great? Not really, but I was intrigued by the way they used the lyrics to create an entirely new song, thus its inclusion.
Other songs definitely worth mentioning are the Freemasons' re-rub of "If" originally from their "Shakedown" album a couple of years back. In fact, I think this is probably the sixth or seventh release from that album that got re-worked for single release. If you remember Gusto' "Disco's Revenge" and Katherine Ellis' "Touch Me" originally appeared on that album and went on to greater heights in clubland during 2008.
Probably the song that surprised me the most is Kidda's "Under the Sun". Used in a Bacardi commercial, it apparently was floating around the Internet last year, but didn't get an official release until mid-November. How I managed to miss this is beyond me, because this song absolutely rocks! Just think of the good old days when Fatboy Slim was rocking it with the likes of "I See You Baby" and "Rockafeller Skank" and you'll get the picture. Equally, the Jason Heard vs. Flashlight "My Girl" is a dirty, nasty romper with a funky guitar riff that will stick in your head long after you leave the club. I expect huge things for this song in the coming months.
Rounding out the mix you get "Everybody" by Russia's Rudenko. While it may be too soon to tell, he is someone you might want to watch because this song is smoking!
As I got down to the end of the mix, I still had a handful of great tunes that I didn't use. So, I've moved those off to the side for use in the next BPM installment, probably sometime in March or after WMC. Weather is really cooperative today and it looks like we're going to have a fabulous weekend so mixing won't be in the cards as Rick and I will certainly take advantage of the beautiful weather.
Nevertheless, I promise to have the 2009 Winter Edition up and ready by the end of next week. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and I'll catch you guys next week. Until then.ENJOY!

BPM Edition 2009 Volume 1 | Take 4
Wednesday Feb 04, 2009
Wednesday Feb 04, 2009
Moving along to the 4th installment of the BPM Edition 2009 v1, you'll notice that the mix picks up where the 3rd one left off. It starts off with some deep and dark progressive tunes before we jump back into the electro. You might also want to take note of two remakes in this mix.
First up is "Send Me An Angel" by Lovematic feat. Sharon May Linn. This is a remake of the 80's classic by Real Life. There are a variety of mixes that accompany this set and one even mimics the original while updating the synth riff for today's floors. While it's not bad, I had a hard time swallowing it given the female voice as opposed to the original male vocals. It's hard to listen to a remake of such a massive classic as this without cringing.
Digging into the mixes I finally settled on the Fratty & Burra Club Mix which retains the original melody but uses it in ways never considered before. For that, I applaud their originality and slapped on four stars to show my approval. Then we have a remake of "Your Loving Arms" by Jose Amnesia vs. Karen Overton.
Of course the original was done by Billie Ray Martin in the mid-nineties. This song has deep meaning to me and once again I was skeptical. After listening to it, I was completely immersed in the song with its trance-like synths swirling around my head. While nothing will ever match the magic of the original, this sure comes close.
As for Billie Ray, I've got a new mix of the very same song that I'll probably drop in on next week's "Winter Edition". I understand she's working on some new material scheduled for release later this year. I also have another 90's classic remake slated for the final volume and will go into detail about that on Friday.
I also wanted to mention the Ting Tings latest offering. "Fruit Machine" must be like their gazillionth single from their "We Started Nothing" debut. Jam-packed with all sorts of electro-pop goodness, each song has been remixed to great effect by some of today's hottest producers. I don't just love the remixes, but the album as well.
Before all is said and done, we may end up with another batch of mixes for "We Walk". Currently, they are scheduled to write and record a new album in Paris and Berlin. If they can keep this up, they deserve every bit of success that has come their way. Outstanding!
You may also be scratching your head and wondering "what is that bleached bottled blond thinking?" Lily Allen's "Fear" was already on take one. Glad you asked. I absolutely adore this song. Wideboys and Stonebridge did a fabulous job of re-creating what was a rather ho-hum pop song and transforming it into something meaningful. Th lyrics alone are worth the price of admission but coupled with these awesome dancefloor interpretations, bring the song to life. While I don't expect this song to become some worldwide dance hit, every once in a while there's a song that just demands attention, and this is one such moment.
"I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don't care about clever I don't care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them
I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
'Cuz everyone knows that's how you get famous
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah I'm on to a winner
I don't know what's right and what's real anymore
I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear?
'Cuz I'm being taken over by The Fear
Life's about film stars and less about mothers
It's all about fast cars cussing each other
But it doesn't matter cause I'm packing plastic
and that's what makes my life so fucking fantastic
And I am a weapon of massive consumption
and its not my fault it's how I'm programmed to function
I'll look at the sun and I'll look in the mirror
I'm on the right track yeah we're on to a winner
I don't know what's right and what's real anymore

First, I'd like to send out my best wishes to those living in the UK, I hope you thawed out already. Not to make light of your situation, even though 4 inches of snow is generally considered fun time in places that are used to it, but in areas that generally don't get snow, it can be a disaster.
After high school, I moved to Austin, TX and got a job as a copy clerk for the Austin American Statesman. On one winter day, I saw snow for the very first time in my life and the newspaper let everyone go home early. I couldn't figure out why, so I called a friend to hook up and party.
Thankfully, I had filled up the tank prior to leaving because what should have taken me 10 minutes to get to my destination ended taking over 5 hours! People drive like idiots in snow and ice causing accidents and then they start using the opposite lanes causing more accidents.
By the time everything is backed up, people start running out of gas causing more congestion. What a fracking nightmare that was. Eventually, I got to where I was going and my friend had a case of beer and a couple of funny cigarettes waiting for me. I can assure you, that more than made up for it. LOL.
While Atlanta doesn't get much snow, in general, they are prepared for it and are able to cover the highways with salt to prevent slipping and sliding. However, if it was a multi-day snowstorm with several inches, I think this city would come to a halt as well, since they don't have snow plows and probably have never heard of one.LOL. So, my best wishes to our fellow members across the pond, hopefully, you got some time off work.
As I mentioned in a previous post, changing the name of the mixes allows me to drop in things that might otherwise not have made it. You'll notice that this mix takes a decidedly darker turn towards the end. Take 4 picks up where we left off before going back into the electro-funk styling these mixes are known for.
Frankly, I'm quite pleased and finally feel like I'm getting my mojo back. Now, that doesn't always work because there are two songs I absolutely love, but couldn't get to work anywhere in the mix. So, I'll set those aside in hopes of being able to drop them in at a later date. Variety is the spice of life and the only way to enjoy it is by experimenting. If it works, great. If not, pack up and move on to the next thing. Eventually, you'll get it to work and the pay off is generally very satisfying.
Getting down to the bottom of the barrel, it appears there will be a total of 5 mixes, instead of 4. I've already got number 4 ready to go and should get that posted tomorrow or the day after.
Regardless, everything will be wrapped up by the weekend. After that, I'll begin work on the much delayed Winter Edition. I hope everyone's having a great week so far and I'll be back shortly with the next installment. Until then, enjoy!

Saturday Jan 31, 2009
Finally, I'm beginning to get organized. I finished re-stocking the Party Favorz shelves from 2008 that I had previously lost, though I'm certain about 1/3 of the songs have been overlooked.
However, at 2,081 songs meticulously reorganized and tagged for backup, my eyesight is just about gone and it's time to move on. I should have it all backed up to DVD later today and then I'll restore the decades worth of club music from DVD backup, to its new home on my 1TB drive.
I have another that just came in and will be added to a raid for extra security. Then, I'll be doing monthly DVD backups as a third precaution after that. I don't ever want to go through this again. I'm still going to tear apart the external drive and see if I can't get it working long enough to run my extractor and recoup a whole host of other things I lost in the process, but that will have to wait until next weekend. Right now, I need to stay focused on the mixes so I don't get behind.
So, this weekend I'm dishing out the first two mixes of v1 and will sporadically release the remaining mixes next week (yeah, there's quite a bit even with me hitting the delete button). The good news is that I'm keeping each mix under the 80-minute mark like I used to, instead of rolling out these mega 2 1/2-hour mix sets. I always thought it worked better that way, but sometimes I get on a roll or just carried away.
I know a lot of you have been patiently waiting for these, so I'm not going to do much more of a send-off. We're finally having some spectacular weather here in Atlanta and should be equally nice tomorrow before the cold, rain, wind, and snow set in on Tuesday. I'll grab what I can get now. I hope it's as nice wherever you may be, if not you got some brand-spanking electro-funk to keep you warm. I'll be back tomorrow with take 2, until then. ENJOY!

System Edition 2009 Volume 1 [Take 1]
Thursday Jan 22, 2009
Thursday Jan 22, 2009
I'm finally getting back to some normalcy around here, but still, have a long way to go. I was itching to get back to mixing, so I stopped everything else to get this first mix up for the year. I plan on diving in this Saturday and Sunday to get everything finished up, even if it means pulling an all-nighter.
Frankly, I can't stand to be disorganized, so this will be my primary objective after tomorrow. Fortunately, I won some tickets to "Shut Up, Sweet Charlotte" at the "14th Street Playhouse" for Rick and I, so Friday I plan on just chilling and enjoying myself. I think we'll head over to "Joe's on Juniper" afterward for burgers and some beer. Should be a nice evening.
As for the mix, the System Edition is pretty much what I'm feeling this time of year. Sometimes deep and reflective while other times energized and rambunctious. Not having too much time to scout around the different sites, I pulled everything on this mix from Beatport.
You'll notice a variety of styles from Deep, Tech, Minimal, Electro, Techno and Progressive House all thrown into a blender and poured out into a smooth confection. Speaking of Beatport, if you haven't been over there in a while, you should really check them out. They have completely revamped the site for a richer experience, with smoother navigation and I can now link back to each song individually. I gotta give these guys credit; they have done an outstanding job in putting this together. Frankly, I think they've set the bar for other online music services to emulate. Well done.
If you're looking for one of my mainstream prog mixes, this isn't it. I'm guessing after WMC Miami in late March, there will be plenty of it around and I'll most likely get back to that in May or so. I don't plan another System mix until March where I'll dig even deeper into the mix.
I was checking out Stompy, and they really have their own thing going on as far as underground house music. Intrigued with what I was hearing, I expect to be pulling a lot from there as well as some of the kick-ass leftovers that didn't make the cut for this mix. This is a concept I'm not ready to give up on and it should be very interesting to hear the end result.
Between these two mixes, you'll notice a lot of familiar samples being used. Frankly, I'm all for it. For me, I like to play "name that beat" when listening to fresh new tunes that utilize a beat or lyric from a classic tune. There's two back to back on this first mix that uses the same sample, albeit, in different ways, that is still driving me crazy. For the life of me, I can't figure out where it was taken from, even though it is all too familiar. Listen to track 11 and 12 and see if you can figure it out.
As the weekend nears, the weather appears to be more cooperative. Though it's still bone-chilling at night, the daytime is cool and sunny with clear blue skies. Just enough to keep a smile on my face. I'll be back tomorrow with the second installment, until then...ENJOY!

Top Dance Songs of 2008 Volume 4
Sunday Jan 04, 2009
Sunday Jan 04, 2009
The year 2008 was an iconic one for dance music, which is evident in the standout tracks that make up the Top Dance Songs of 2008. These compositions not only introduced us to fresh rhythms but also encapsulated the spirit of the era in an innovative and compelling way.
A good example of these top dance songs is "The Girl You Lost To Cocaine" by Sia. This track, in its Stonebridge Extended Vocal Remix form, was a seminal part of 2008's dance scene. Its unique mix of infectious beats and emotive lyrics struck a chord with dance music enthusiasts, making it a notable entry in the Top Dance Songs of 2008 list.
Similarly, "Disturbia" by Rihanna, remixed by Jody Den Broeder, is another gem from the Top Dance Songs of 2008. The track's haunting, alluring, and dance-friendly beats set it apart, securing its place in 2008's dance music pantheon.
"Whenever You Need Me" by Infernal also featured on the Top Dance Songs of 2008. Its The Mac Project Club Mix variation provided a lively, pulsating rhythm that resonated with party-goers and music aficionados alike, thus contributing to the rich tapestry of 2008's dance scene.
Kings Of Leon's "Sex On Fire," in its Richard Sharkey & Peter Sar Remix iteration, too deserves a special mention. This track blended rock and dance in an electrifying manner, making it an essential addition to the Top Dance Songs of 2008.
Overall, the Top Dance Songs of 2008 offered a diverse, energetic, and unforgettable collection of tracks. These compositions not only defined the dance music scene of 2008 but also shaped the trends for years to follow, highlighting the lasting impact and dynamism of this remarkable year in dance music.

Top Dance Songs of 2008 Volume 3
Saturday Jan 03, 2009
Saturday Jan 03, 2009
Top Dance Songs of 2008 were significantly marked by the phenomenal contributions of artists like Katherine Ellis and Amanda Wilson. Both of these performers had a triumphant year collaborating with a wide range of producers, contributing their talent to some of the best tracks in the dance music scene.
Amanda Wilson, despite a slow start, ended the year on a high note, particularly with her track "Keep the Fire Burning" with the Outsiders. This song turned out to be a dance floor sensation, thanks to the extraordinary mixes by Freemasons and the ever-popular Wawa. It's clear that Amanda's talent resonated well within the Top Dance Songs of 2008, and she's certainly one to watch in 2009.
On the other hand, Katherine Ellis seemingly had the Midas touch in 2008. Her powerful vocals added a touch of magic to every project she was part of. From lending her voice to 7th Heaven's remake of "Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But the Rent," collaborating with Cerrone, the famed French disco producer, and contributing to her own band Bimbo Jones, Katherine solidified her presence in the list of the Top Dance Songs of 2008. Her efforts deserve nothing less than a standing ovation.
The star of 2008, however, was the pop sensation, Robyn. Breaking free from the shackles of her previous record label, she formed her own production company, Konichiwa Bitches. She released a self-titled album, simply called Robyn, to critical acclaim. The album gave birth to six amazing tracks, all landing on the charts of the Top Dance Songs of 2008. Her success was further amplified by a world tour, even serving as the opening act for Madonna in Europe. Robyn's extraordinary achievements in 2008 demonstrate what can happen when an artist takes their career into their own hands. We eagerly await her future endeavors!

Holiday Edition 2008 Volume 3
Saturday Dec 20, 2008
Saturday Dec 20, 2008
It looks like there wasn't enough for a 4th mix, so this will be the final installment of the Holiday Edition 2008. There's some tough love going on in this mix, perfect for your peak-hour enjoyment. Watch out for the Nicki Richards tune; quite possibly the first anthem for 2009. Another one I'm really getting into is Sweet Feet Music feat. Soul Sista Shakti with Jeanie Tracy & Pepper Mashay "Maybe God Is Tryin' To Tell You Somethin'". Packed with exceptional mixes from start to finish, there's not a bad mix in the bunch. I don't know what it is but there's something about Gays, God, and Gospel that melds together really well. Expect a Klubjumpers remix as part of a 2nd round of mixes in early January.
Speaking of Klubjumpers, check out the ultra HOT remix they turned in for the classic "I Can't Get No Sleep 2008" by India. Careful, you may burn yourself in the process. Altogether, this is one solid set from start to finish. You'll notice a little bonus at the end of the mix by Kristine W. Just a little Christmas something for those of you traveling this year to your holiday destination.
I'll be wrapping up a Christmas present for the House heads which I'll deliver on Christmas Eve and day. Until then, I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday, however you may celebrate it. Take care and I'll be back at the end of next week for a series of year-end mixes to round out the year. From my house to yours...Merry Christmas and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
